Got the same call as everyone else, from a Detective Mike Anderson. Knew something was up so I did a bit of research. Didn't try the number he provided because I determined the company, Direct Process Servers didn't actually exist in the form of a legal service. I wrote down everything and faxed it to my wife, who just happens to work for the Department of Homeland Security. It'll be interesting to find out who the numbers belong to.

I just got a call about 20 minutes ago AT WORK asking for MY MOTHER!  A guy named Paul Stevens called saying that he was with Direct Process Service and that some complaints have been filed against my mother and she needed to call them back concerning a legal matter.  They gave an affidavit and claim number and told me to call "litigations" at 757-214-6785.  I had to pry to get all of this information out of him because I could not figure out why he was calling ME at work, asking for MY MOTHER!!!  I wanted to know how he got that number.  He said it was given as a reference and that he had several other numbers as well, but would not tell me.  He also would not provide me with anymore information due to "privacy stuff".  (How professional does that sound????)  So I hung up with him (knowing this was already a scam from the moment he told me a complaint and legal matter had been filed against my elderly mother) and called "litigations".  I had to make my way through menu prompts to talk to someone, but the guy asked me for my "claim number" and then pulled up my moms name.  I identified myself as my mom to get information out of him.  He told me that they tried to serve me with "papers" at an address I've never heard of in a state that my mother's never lived in, several times with no results.  When I asked him what the legal matter was about, he told me that according to loan.com, "I" (my mom) had an outstanding payday loan/cash advance from 2010 and that I was being sued for $1342.19.  He said, "now, I'm not saying that's how much you got, that's just how much you're being sued for".  He said since "you" have not made these payments, we have authorization to freeze all bank accounts assetts and seize all valuables until this loan is paid off.  He also mentioned something about a restraining order.  Now in the middle of this call, the phone became muffled and this guy was not responding to my constant and many "HELLO'S".  I thought the call had become disconnected, so I just kept saying, HELLO?  HELLO!?!?!.......No answer, for about a minute and a half.  Finally he came back to the phone and continued the conversation like nothing ever happened.  I ended up telling him how nice it was that I was being sued (I'm being sarcastic with him at this point to let him know that I know this mess is a scam!) and that I didn't even live in the state he claims these "papers" were delivered.  Before I could get to my next "furthermore", a recorded voice came on the phone and said "GOODBYE!" and the call was disconnected.  I then went straight to the internet to look up this company to try and figure out who they really were.  I pulled up this site: http://www.directprocessserver.com/index.html, who has information right at the top of the site, saying: "If you received a call from 757-214-6785, or anyone claiming to a debt collector from Direct Process Server, this is NOT US.We are not a debt collector agency. We are currently working with the FBI & FTC to end these calls.  Click here to view a recent ABC News Report on the scam."  I then clicked the link to go to ABC and viewed this article/video: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/fake-debt-col ... ricans-16515234.  I hope these guys and all like them everywhere get locked up for the rest of their lives.

I'll post what she finds here if I'm able to. She did say they were using track phones. Don't know how easy they are to link to a person though.

they called saying there was a legal matter against me and that i had 24 hours to notify my attorney or legal action will be applied against me. TYhey tried to get information from my work about me and all my co-workers they are scumbags its a scam

Got a phone call about a case number regarding my late husband.  Very frightening.  Tim Tatum was the agent.

Just received this call, indicating the same thing, that I am being sued and need to either contact them or have my lawyer contact them for outstanding payday loan of some sort, well funny thing is, I am current on all my finances, so huge scam!!!!

Nicole Kaufman called and claimed to have judgement; Not true and it's a scam.  Said we should hire an attorney or settle with them. Actually spoke with my son (under 18) and they wanted my father who lives in another state!

got the same call today. got a message at my home phone and work phone.  don't let all the tough talk scare you.

9-4-12 - got a message from special agent James Clark informing me of a restraining order agaist me and that I needed to call this number 757-214-6785 within 48 hours.  Spent majority of my day call this number and was on hold up to 30 minutes.  Each time I called (approx 15 times) no one ever answered the phone. This has to be a scam.  I am in the midwest and this number is from Virginia.  I have never been to Virginia.

I keep getting these calls from this number and I'm not sure what to do. I have never took out a "Payday Loan"...but some how they have my phone number. After I have read the comments below I'm pretty sure this is a scam of some sort. I've called several times to speak with someone and all I get is music.

I'm getting the same call from these people from this number.  After reading all that is said, I know now that its a scam.  They are PROCESS SERVERS supposively, and I work for a lawfirm.

Ignore them, it is a scam. Don't worry about it.

Block the number using your telephone or wireless customer service.

special investegator JOHN BROWN ....called me from this number said someone filed a complaint against me and my file # k95R-2463 NEVER SAID WHAT COMPANY OR COUNTY HE WORKED FOR!!!!! WHO IS THIS???????

My 72 year old mother received two calls from this number.  When she called them back they would identify themselves, but told her that she had a tax bill in the amount of $423 that needed to be paid or if it went to court it would cost her over $900.  I personally have been preparing my mothers tax returns for over 20 years.

These people are messing with a 72 year old woman who has never defaulted on a bill in her life.  Furthermore, these people are messing with my mother.  If they want a lawsuit to file let them keep threatening her, because I will make sure they have a lawsuit.

My exwife.  She called me to relay the message.  When the message linked debt, which is a civil matter, with stalking, which is a criminal matter, I knew they were back at it again.  Took 30 seconds to figure it out.  Not too smart, guys.
