- MKThis number keeps calling our house. They also use the number 800-772-1413. I answered once and they wanted my personal information that I refused. They asked if I lived at a certain address and a had a certain birth date. I said no to each question (honest response) and told them they had the wrong person. She replied that she would take my number off of their call list. They keep calling and I have answered twice and received the same response that they would take my name off their list. They have the wrong person. But, they keep calling. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

- busymommy| 1 replyThese people are manipulators and nothing short of criminals. They try to stay one step ahead of the FDCPA by calling every day and about 8:59pm (for someone who hasn't lived here for nearly a decade and whose debt is way beyond SOL anyway). I never answer as they are just one of the many debt collection companies that are harssing my family for this person.

- I never answer calls from numbers I do n replies to busymommyThis call showed up on my caller ID this morning. If I do not recognize the name or number on the caller ID I do not answer the phone. They are more than welcome to leave a message but no matter what message they might leave the calls will never be returned.
What I suggest everyone do is get a copy of your credit report. All three agencies need to provide a free copy yearly. After you read the credit report put a freeze on it. That mans no one can access your credit report without your approval. The only people that can access it when it is frozen is anyone that is on it to begin with. That means no collection agencies can get your credit report unless they already have had access to your report and they are not off of it. It also prevents people from obtaining a credit report because they want to issue you credit without you asking for it. In other words those so called pre approved credit offers. It also could prevent people from obtaining your credit report for illegal purposes such as getting a credit card in your name and charging it up the wazoo without paying. Applying for a jb and the prospective employer wants to do a credit check? They will be locked out also and will not be able to do so without your knowledge. - 757-961-3544I have this number on my caller ID phone they called 4/12/10 at 5:15PM and left no message. I do not know them and do not have any reason to be on their call list. Please advise them to take off of their call list.

- 757-961-3544This is a SCAVENGER debt collector... Portfolio Recovery. They buy old debt that is out of the statute of limitations. Do not talk to them. They will try to mix you up and all they need to do is get you to admit you know about this old debt and the statute of limitations start over again! ALSO, they will offer to settle for a smaller amount (one sign they are scavengers) and if you agree and pay it off, legally they can file a suit against you for the rest of it! They've had complaints filed against them for their practices and they have lost. DO NOT TALK TO THEM. IF you get a letter that you can verify IS from an attorney, then you need to pay up. BUT, these people will call themselves "litagators" although there is no attorney on staff. If you pick the phone up don't admit to anything and ask them not to call you. I did and they STOPPED CALLING. There are many, many numbers they use!!!

- Annoyed in ChicagoThey worse then the energizer bunny. They keep calling and calling. I finally got feed up and picked up the call. WHAT A CROCK of Sh#t. First they keep trying to verify who they are speaking too. I played along. I asked them who you think I am. They read back a bunch of stuff, some is accurate and some isn't. I question the debt. I say that isn't me. they insist it is and I must pay. The debt is over 20 years old. I say, well mail me the proof. Boy did that [***] the operator. She said, you know what it is and just promise to pay it. Try's to get me to settle for 80%, I say no. Well how about 50%. The debt is from a stolen identity from my 15 year old nephew to get a phone. I know the story, but didn't feel she needed to know the whole story. i just say it is a stolen identity and it was settled, partially true. She say's just pay us and if you get an court order we will refund the money. This will be the only way to stop the calls. I start having some fun and say, "no, send me proof of the debt to the address on file. She states, I have the information and should just pay it. I say I want proof, I say I want your full name so I can contact the State attorney to say you won't furnish proof and "BAM". She hangs up. What a bunch of scavengers. THE SOL has expired and the debt in question is only $578. This is just costing them so much time and money, but most of these operators are paid on commission. Too low to file a 1099C. Companies like Portfolio purchase this debt for pennies on the dollar. They have no proof of the debt, otherwise they be honest and send it. I want congress to pass a law that ban's the trading of debt, like it was stock in a company. I feel only the original debtor should be allowed to collect debt. They extended you the credit, so they take the responsibility. Debt being treated like a stock investment is just wrong. In time this practice will stop. Yes, you are responsible for your debt, but companies are responsible to collect it within the law. This company is violating telecommunications laws. The reason they don't want to verify it by mail, is that becomes a major felony if the information is wrong, mailed to the wrong person. Laws for mail are stricter then telecommunication laws and they know it. Technology laws are so far behind and tough to regulate.
