That is because they honestly don't have a clue. They rarely call back when a call from a member or provider is requested.

You can also ask for a reference number for the call, whether you answered the call or you're returning it.  The reference numbers are 4 digits long. No notes were made on your account, not surprising.  I work in claims and every time they ask me for a return phone number, I rarely give it because they are notorious for not returning calls. Worst customer service of any of the major insurance carriers.

Legitimate call from United Healthcare. I know this for a fact because I requested a callback from a caseworker concerning information pertaining to a claim. Missed the call, but  the person who left the message on my voicemail was the same person I had spoken to the previous day. That's not to say scammers don't spoof this number hoping that people will answer because it's an insurance company, but the call I received was legit & actually requested.

This is the appointment reminder service for UHC out of Minnesota and is a legitimate caller.  I wish UHC would not use a centralized, out of my area, service like this because I never know who is calling until after they leave a message on my answering machine.

Unprofessional. A caring nurse would never call in such an anonymous manner. It has obviously caused stress and anxiety to many.  Not very caring in my professional opinion and bordering on unethical. Shame on you but typical of cross marketing tactics used by cariers today. Asking for verification when you should already have it is unconscionable and highly sugestive of a scam. Got a name so we can look you up?  Put up or shut up.

They called me at 6 am!  My Caller ID said it was United Health.  When I answered, there was no one there.

I just received the following message from this number:

“Hi. This message is for [me]. My name is Gloria. I’m calling you on behalf of [the company I work for], and this is regarding your benefits. If you could call us back at 866-575-2540, Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm Central Time. Thank you.”

I just sent an email to my company's help desk, but we're in NYC and I highly doubt anyone legit would be calling me from Minnesota.

I received a similar message via voicemail.

"Hi.This message is for [me]. My name is Anthea. I’m calling you from United Healthcare to let you know that we are calling about the issues you and I have been discussing.  I just want to give you an update.   If you could call back and ask for me I will give you a call back."

I do not recall discussing any 'issues' with UHC since I dropped them 2 years ago.  The caller left no reference# or messageID, nor did she leave a call-back number so I assume its the same 763 number she dialed from.  Not very professional IMO. I will not return the call but if they call again and I answer, I will update this post..

Got call female caller 226 pm 8/7/18 stating she is from united health care and my blue Cross blue shield is no longer active. She didn't leave a name who she was calling for. Just said call the number on the back of my card. Nobody in my household ever had UHC. I called BC/BS and my coverage is active. ***SCAM***

The above "validation message" was obviously written by a foreign scammer.
Poor grammar gives it away every time!

They called me but when I said “hello?” No one said anything.. not sure if it’s a scam caller or not but it was definitely weird.

That's all well and good for you.....but I do not have UHC.....nor am I on any Prescriptions.  Pays to be alert and skeptical sometimes, no reason to call people Paranoid.

I work for a provider's office and we received a call from this number yesterday and they left a voicemail saying they were from United Health Care provider services needing to verify information for a claim. They left a 952-948-8254 call back number along with a reference number. When I called the number a girl answered with a "Hello", no official greeting like you would normally get from an insurance company. I asked who I was speaking with and what company they were from and she said United Health Care. I gave her the reference number and I was transferred to someone else and was asked to verify the Provider NPI and Tax ID. I asked for the name of the patient this was regarding and it was a patient of ours. I had them give me the NPI and Tax ID number for verification, and they were correct. Then they told me that we needed to send them a W9 form with the Tax ID on it. This patient has already had many previous claims that have been submitted and paid for. We are already contracted with United Health Care so they should not need to verify any of this information and already have a W9 on file. I hung up and called the 800 number for UH and spoke with several different departments and provided them with the reference number I was given. The number does not exist and all claims have been processed with no issues. I also called other branches of UH who may have been involved in processing and had the same response. I have no idea who these people were or how they had all the information they did, but insurance companies normally send letters if they have issues with claims, they don't call to verify information like that.

I have received numerous calls from this #, never leave a message, and have no ties to anyone in Minnesota let alone any medical connection. Wouldn't share my information or verify any no matter who called regardless unless I know who I am talking to. Sounds suspicious to me!

A man with a foreign accent called saying they were from uhc wanting to get a verbal to fill a patients medicine. They had her name and date of birth and the name of the medicine. When i told them they would have to fax us an order for the request  of the medicine and gave them a fax number. They never sent order via fax. So i think it is scam-scam-scam-scam.

Today I got 2 calls from 763-274-3899; I didn't answer and they didn't leave a messsge. This like all potential scammers would leave a message if they were legit; I blocked and deleted the number.

I received 3 calls from this number today.....so far. I never answer calls from unknown numbers and never will. No messages were left----very suspicious!!!
Judging by some previous posts it seems these scammers have access to inside information about UHC (and others?) customers. They also seem to go so far as to post here, on this site, to defend these calls; perhaps hoping to fool people into answering and giving up their personal information.
I would hope UHC would investigate, root out these embedded criminals and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and make the world a safer place for us all.
