- Philly| 1 replyThis is legit. This is not a scam. This is PNC fraud division. If you are uncomfortable answering call your local branch.
- Caller: PNC
- PNC UserIt is real people so pick up and make sure your card is good to go.
- Caller: PNC
- GregThis IS indeed a real call. Make certain you call them back. I called PNC Bank back to verify, and they said it is a real number for their loss prevention department.
- ewIt is PNC. LEGITIMATE. Call the regular pnc # to verify if you are not sure.
- Caller: PNC FRAUD PREVENTION
- Trudy| 5 repliesYes this is indeed for PNC. I hardly ever use my debit card for large purchases and I did this morning, I received the call as I was standing in line right after my card was scanned once. It was immediately blocked and i was called. I verified the transaction and we tried again and it went through. So anyone claiming it's a SCAM is obviously either a scammer or trolling.

- Fraud Squad replies to Trudy| 3 repliesPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- SteveReceived call …didn't make sense. Wanted info on recent purchases on Visa. SCAM……..do not give out any of your personal info
- MattThis is indeed a real call. I received it when I put a $1500 purchase on my debit card.
Maybe scammers are making it look like this number but I received a real call.
I wasn't asked for any digits other than the last 4 of my card and I had to verify the last few transactions which were all stated correctly.- Caller: PNC Fraud Protection
- Mickey| 2 repliesThis number has called me 3 times within the last 6 or so hours. I have not answered it at all. I am one of those "off-the-grid" types of people, I do not have a credit card, or bank account( under my name) for that matter. I am strongly against the idea that this is PNC bank. Come on, what are the odds that ALL of you actually have a bank account at PNC? Odds are there are others who don't have a PNC account and also have received a call.
- Caller: NOT PNC?!
- Call type: Prank
- 1/14/2015I received a call from this number. It was legit.
- Caller: PNC
- ReddThis number is LEGIT. I literally just got off the phone with a Pnc rep and she confirmed this number is an automated service they use when they suspect suspicious activity on your account. They are just trying to make sure the purchases were made by you.

- Ali replies to SuperstewThis is legit. I called the branch and they did confirm for me that this is part of the bank. I was a little hesitant but asked them what caused the flags and after them tellin me I can see how and why. I didnt call this number back but I did contact the branch
- wmonroeIt is legit. I called my bank first, to ask then about it. They did not have this number in front of them to say for sure, but said since there was a large recent charge on my card, that they were probably just calling to make sure the charge was authorized. I asked them if it would be okay for me to call the number back, and give them my last 4 numbers, and she said it was safe. So I called the number back, and it was about a large purchase I had made. They even knew my other recent charges as well. So if it was a scammer, they would not have known the recent amounts and who they were made to.
So if I had not called back, they probably would have froze my card, which would have caused me some huge problems. I know they are trying to keep my account safe, but now everyone in the house knows about my charge. I like to keep things private. If you don't want your account to be froze, you need to answer the call, all you have to give them is the last 4 numbers, a scammer can't do anything with that. I was leery at first when I saw so many people saying "fraud, scam".
The people saying that are just being paranoid. If you are still paranoid, call your bank, tell them the phone number. If they say they are not sure of the number, ask them if they can find out the security hotline number for you. Or ask for the security department. Just tell them any recent charges you made, and see if there were ones you did not make.
P.S. I am not a scammer, just trying to give advice. I know it is a hassle, and if you are like me, you don't like to bothered with phone calls from people you don't know.- Caller: PNC card services
- ValerieIt is legitimate - called PNC right away and confirmed
- SarThis is legit. I had made a large purchase not even 2 hours prior, and so I was sort of expecting a call from the bank. I missed the call, and looked the number up to see if it was something else. I called the bank direct and they confirmed a call had been made about the purchase Id made.
- Caller: PNC
- W. AndersonThis number robocalled with my name, 4-digits of my card, and wanted my ZIP code for validation. I hung up and called the number on the pack of my bank card. (You can say 'fraud' at the main prompt, BTW.) PNC verified that they -did- originate the call and that this request was -legitimate-.
So, legitimate, but STUPID. Why would I give a robocaller my zip code?
The nice lady in the fraud department did explain that after 3 failed robocall attempts, they'll try a live human caller. (Not that you should feel any safer because the voice is human.)- Caller: PNC Fraud Prevention
- SherriI just received a call from this 800-225-5671 and also thought it may be a scam. So I called my PNC bank and they did verify that it was a legit call. I was also told that if I ever receive these calls again, to just hit '0' and it will take you to a live PNC representative. FYI.
- RussThis was apparently PNC Bank calling about some fraud activities on my account..I decided to call back PNC Bank directly and true enough, some company tried to withdraw a large sum of money out of my account 8 different times..It never went through because the amount was over my daily limit..This number that calls you is legit, please pay it attention...
- Caller: PNC Bank
- GolfJohnThis is REAL; at least in my case. Someone stole my debit card number and used it for a big purchase. It was flagged by the bank-thank goodness as a unusual charge. I will get my money back immediately. Call the 800 number just to be sure. I did & I'm glad.
