it is the direct nuber of capital one fraud protection service[8002397054].i recieved a call from 8004279428 and asked me to call back on 8002397054, because they detected some suspicious activities on my credit card.i called them back and found out that they were  right and stopped the activity  right then and there[good catch].later i was little nervous about the number and for my anxiety i checked with capital one credit card service and found out  that i called the right number,and it is the right number.but to avoid all this concern pls call the number at the back of your card always,so that you dont have to worry at all. same day i  even closed the account with capital one.

I understand how nerve racking it was for you to receive that phone call. Not only did I receive a phone call, I received a letter. I went to capitol one's official site and clicked the link to their contacts. 1800-239-7054 turns out to be one of their two Fraud Protection numbers.

Just got my Capital One and activated last night.  Made my first purchase today, after half hour I got this phone call from this Indian lady.  She wanted to verify my identity, and gave me few really odd question, I answered them, but she claimed that my answers were incorrect.  I told her my answers were correct, then she threatens me that if I don't want my credit scores to get ruined just go to a local capital one branch.  My train my going into tunnel, so the call was disconnected. Got back home, called that number again, another lady picked up, she pulled up my account, saying there was a note on my account and needed to talk with her supervisor, she asked me to hold, after five minutes, I was disconnected.  Called again, another woman picked up, she was not able to find my credit card number  this time, I had to give her my social.  When she pulled up my account, she said there was a note on my account and needed to talk with her supervisor, after about 3 minutes, someone came back to take my call, I think it was the first Indian woman I talked with, probably the supervisor.  She asked me the questions, I answered them and were very confident they were correct, but she insisted that my answers were incorrect, LMAO, and that's how my credit card account was restricted.  

All I can suggest you people out there who has a capital one card and got called from their fraud team, don't bother, verify YOURSELF at the local capital one branches.  I have more than ten credit cards, and capital one is the only one giving me this much trouble, and their representatives were really rude.  If you have to call them, do it in daytime, maybe someone in the state4s will be answering your call.

Applied for Cap One card last week.  Got a call today from Gary at this number (800-239-7054) wanting to talk to me about supiscious charges on my card.  Ask that I call back with my card number and the three digit number on the back of the card.  They obviously gathering this info quite easily.

I've getting calls from this number well over a month and never answered..until today, the rep sounded like a young female and she told this Capital One fraud dept, and she was checking to see if any credit cards were applied under my name and she needed my Capital one account number and my SS#,  so I asked her, how do I really know you are from Capital One?..and then she said well the number on the back my card and I hang-up the phone on her and called Capital one and Guess what? the rep told me that there was no calls recorded on her screen and if there was she would that. She told that Capital one would never ask for account numbers and never ask you for your full SS#, only the last 4 digits. She also said that nothing was wrong, meaning no RED FLAGS on my account and if there were that she would see it.
DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE NOTHING..CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CAPITAL ONE CREDIT CARD.

I received a message from this number today and so I called it back and they asked for my full card number and social security and I was suspicious and said I had neither and would call back. I then called the number on the back of my capital one card and she verified that it was a legit call and transferred me to their fraud department. I then verified some charges and everything was all set. So, this number is actually a capital one number.

I got a similar call from someone who claimed to be from capital one and requested I fax information to them I refused!

I just received a call from Capital One regarding our account.  We have never had an account with them and never will after this.  The Indian woman on the phone was rude!  When I mentioned that if it were really capital one, they would know that we don't have accounts with them and this must be a scam.  She got even more rude and defensive.  If this number really is legit, I would say that there is a possibility that one of there employees are working a scam with the company phone line.  She said I needed to give personal info to clear up a matter.  Don't thinks so lady!  People BEWARE.   I told her I was going to report them to the proper agencies.  Capitol One needs to look into what is really going on with their business.

I called capital one to report fraud phone numbers claiming to be capital one.  This number is legit as well as the 10 other phone numbers I reported to them.  I explained to capital one, that I would not be answering any phone calls that do not show the company name on caller ID.  The calls I did answer  did not provide a name or the company they work for.  Here is a list of numbers that Alex at Capital one said were legit phone numbers
800-955-6600,  800-669-0102, 866-751-1540, 866-929-5306, 804-217-7156, 901-212-1268, 866-381-0453, 909-391-1768, 773-563-0350.
Not sure they are Capital One or 3rd Party.  Alex said they are Capital One, but it is hard to believe a company would use such deceptive practices.

UPDATE  The numbers I listed more than likely belong to Capital one, LLC and are not the same as Capital one.  When calling Capital One, these calls are then redirected to debt collectors under the name of capital one, llc.

Yesterday I got a call from "Capital One Fraud Dept" with the 8002397054.  I got the call on both cell and home phone, and they used the last 4 digits of my card.  As always I use the number on MY CARD to call back and never the number given on phone - scams are on the rise and this guarantees you reach the company.   That dept said "no problems".    Later I returned the call to the "funny" number and got a very disorganized rep who could not find "my case".   I did not give him my SSN and said I'd call off my card - he did not object to that.  

Incredibly, I think this is NOT a scam number, rather I think the fraud dept has hired folks - probably working from home - to follow up.   But no matter - NEVER call  companies with whom you might share senstive info from numbers given over the phone.

I just got two calls from 8002397054 claiming to be from the new account department at Capitol One. I called the number on the back of my credit card to find out what was going on. Capitol One told me the number is FAKE. Just hang up on them. This is NOT Capitol One calling...this is NOT their number.

I received two voice mails and two letters informing me that CapitalOne may have detected fraud. These letters have a portion of my CapitalOne card on them. It's a card that hadn't been activated, because it did not arrive in time before scheduled travel. I did call CapOne before I left for the status of my card, as it was delayed, and was told that any cards that were applied for during a week in mid-September were on hold. A third call I answered (I was in Europe) and the person identifying themselves as CapOne was asking me for information. I refused and called CapOne when I returned.
The letters were not from CapOne, nor were the calls. Someone had tried to change my address.
CapitalOne has been breached. Someone inside that company may be feeding personal information.
Since this has been going on for more than three years (according to these posts above), CapitalOne clearly can't do anything to stop it, or doesn't care.
Shame, as it may be the best card for traveling (no crazy card fees overseas).
I'm dumping this card before it's activated.

Check out the site at https://www.capitalone.com/   Now do a search for "7054" and you'll see that the phone number in this thread definitely theirs.

Roadtripper is correct it is them.. it did seem very odd but I called them back and it was deffently them.. People look at the link or go to the capital one website they are only doing it to PROTECT you from Fraud!!!!! However the guy was an [***], but I was 1 right back!!

ITS LEGIT !!!   I have just recently applied for a Capitol One card and received the card but before I got a chance to activate the card I got a call from this number.  The gentleman on the line identified himself as from the frauds division of Capitol One.  I gave him no information and called the activate number given on my card.  The person on the line  identified herself as a Customer Service person at Capitol One and she looked up the number 800 239 7054 and told me that it WAS THE FRAUDS Division of Capitol One. BY THE WAY  WHEN I REFUSED TO GIVE MY FULL SS NUMBER EVEN TO THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE NUMBER ON MY CARD SHE WAS VERY VERY HELPFUL AND PROCEEDED WITH MY INQUIRY ABOUT THE FRAUDS NUMBER FORTHWITH.  She also activated my card and went forward with other business I had with Capitol One.
