- Louise replies to TRUE| 2 repliesDo you work for the phishing company? Why else would you be here to deny this when you allegedly don't have a dog in the fight?
- AdrianD replies to Louise| 1 replyAll of you crying foul are [***]....lol! I got a call from this # and I was worried so I decided to call Capital Ones fraud department to report it. I went to their site to look up the # and does anyone wanna guess what their fraud departments # is? Anyone....Bueller...anyone....Bueller? I will help you guys out...it is 1-800-239-7054...the same # all of you say is fake. The lady that called me only asked for a prior employers name and a prior address. When I called them back the guy there said it was indeed them who had called and he had the call logged. Also, the guy told me they never ask for anything that isn't public record on outbound calls so if you have someone asking you for that hang up and call them back because the # could always be a spoofed #.
Here is the link to their own websites contact page which shows their fraud department # is the same # in this thread. If you dont trust my link go to Cap Ones site and search for it yourself under credit cards and then customer service: http://www.capitalone.com/contact/credit-card ... al+Credit+Cards - wonderwomanI have received numerous phone calls in the past week from 800 239 7054. Also, my son received a letter (copied - no color - with errors) at MY address. They sent a letter to me (the cardholder) AND my ex-husband of 10 years at HIS address. What the world? When I talked to the lady the first time, she asked for my entire ss#. I would not give it to her. She seemed more than anxious to hold on the line while I called my ex-husband to retrieve the claim number listed on the letter. I told her this seemed a little fishy to me and hung up without giving any information. Several days after that, I received a voicemail from someone from this same number and I swear to you, I couldn't even understand a word she said. She gave a number to call and I couldn't tell you what it was to save my life. My own gut feeling: FRAUD.

- Hateswinlers replies to SettingtherecordstraightYeah I guess if you trick enough people, YOU would think we're all stupid. Don't believe a word that comes out of a thief's mouth!
- bel14269This is a legit call, verified from the Capital One website. They only ask for verification through birthdate or last 4 of your social.

- RobertJanuary 9, 2013 and they are still calling - claiming to be the Capital One Fraud Department. I did not answer the phone - just listened to the voice mail message. I immediately went to the internet to see if this was a scam. Apparently this has been going on for a long time. The caller said that an application had been submitted in my wife's name and they wanted to verify the information.

- RoseGot a message on my voice mail at work, called back to confirm they had the right extension since I couldn't understand the name the caller left. I don't have a Capital One card and neither does the company I work for so I was a little leery. The person who was helping me assured me that this was a legitimate call and that perhaps someone had tried to open an account in my name. She asked for the last 4 of my social and date of birth which I didn't give since I know I don't have this credit card. While on the phone with her I googled the number and came across info that this was a fraud call. When I asked her about it she asked me to give her the number that I called and reassured me that it was a legitimate call. I ended up hanging up after quickly saying I needed to check into something.

- shedding lighthey there to all of you saying you dont have a card thats why you know its a scam... you are proving the reason they are calling... they are trying to see if you applied and if you didnt then that means someone is using your personal info... they only ask the last 4 (which everyone knows you cant steal personal info with only the last 4 of your ssn) and give you helpful nums if you are indeed a victim... also as everyone with sense has said... if you check capitalone.com they have the number on there... if you dont feel comfortable when they call you, the least you can do is do your research, pull a copy of your credit report, and if you see inquiries from capital one... then you are a victim of identity theft and what they are calling for is now proven correct.....you're welcome

- SharonoJust got a call from this number. A woman said that my credit card ending with xxxx (which did happen to be the last four digits of my number) had been compromised and that it needed to be canceled. I asked her how it was compromised and she said that the credit card numbers had been stolen from a vendor. I asked her what vendor and she said they didn't have that exact information at this time. Since I've gotten calls from my credit card company before when things like this happened, I knew she was lying and wasn't legitimate. I told her she did not have permission to cancel my card and that I would call the company later to check on things. Hate it that she had my last four numbers. Am hoping she doesn't have the rest!! Oh and she said at the beginning that the call would be recorded for "quality control". I guess to see how well she could lie??? :-)
- Caller: unlisted company
