Thank you! This was so helpful! I have been charged too and just realized it has been happening for a few months. I have been charged about $200 it looks like so far. The gal I talked with AT&T said that the blocker was an all or nothing deal. She was not a good rep, so I might call back another day for another operator to look at blocking using a code. I am sure this took a long time for you to research so thank you for sharing your findings. The at&t rep said I would have only been charged the bullroare if I agreed it to and confirmed on my cell phone. I didnt even have text messaging on my phone until recently so I am not sure I could have confired that! what an absolute scam!! AT&T should block this merchant all together!! My company blocks scam mail and any incoming communication that could adversaely impact its clients and employess, AT&T should have the same ethical response to this scam!!!

I called at&T as I had 5 months of these 9.99 bullroare bs charges.  At&T would only refund 60 days worth.  After reading this blog I called back and got the other 3 months refunded!  To have to call back and demand better service, bs!

Thanks for the useful information on Bullroare.

I was charge twice. Called AT&T, they credited my bill with no questions asked, removed the subscription, and provided free 'purchase blocker' on both my phones.

Bullroare charges even started showing up on my mobile broadband line!  The only thing on that line is a USB stick used to connect to the internet through AT&T.  Apparently AT&T broadband devices can get text messages, and Bullroare's fraud is to send a text out to evey number they can and "give" you a limited time to "opt out", otherwise AT&T lets them automatically subscribe you.  This is fraud on both the part of AT&T and Bullroare and is probably class-action worthy.  Any attorneys out there?

Did you get any response from the AG? I'm thinking of starting a class action and wonder what the response was.

bullroare is a fraud scam and ATT knows it. I had a phone stolen and mblox.com owns bullroare and unlawfully steals from millions. They get your phone number from random computer searches and never ask you if you opt in or out. They just attach to your ATT bill assuming you won't notice all the 9.99 extra charges for nothing

i just noticed i had one of these Bullroare bulls*** charges on my account; googled it and found this list of complaints...called AT&T and Stephanie was quick to reverse the charges (two months worth) and put the *free* blocker on.

i'm a little pissed that AT&T allows this (why not just put the block on to protect the customer from the start???) but their customer service is fantastic.  i *hate* verizon and getting this same credit would be a nightmare from those penny-pinching corporate mongers.

time to post this on FaceBook and let everyone else know what a horrible scam mblox.com and bullroare are.

Just happened to view my ATT phone bill on-line and notice a newly initiated charge for $9.99 / month to my Mi-Fi device (not even a phone).
    Date: 1/31/2012
    'Subscription Name:'  USSMARTIQ ATT MIG
    'Short Code:'  32063
'Content Provider'  BULLROARE For assistance contact: 1-800-331-0500
    'Renew Date': 02/29/2012
    Cost: 9.99
    Tax: 0.82
    Charge 10.81

Called ATT Wireless.  They reversed the charges, and put the free blocker on the Mi-Fi device phone number.
This is a total scam, and should be illegal.  I can't imagine it's not already illegal.
Undoubtedly there are many people paying $120/year or more to scammers like this.
There has to be a class-action lawsuit opportunity here for an enterprising lawyer!

Seriously:  with no action on my part, on a device on which I cannot even make a call, some company initiates a charge to my account, which will continue in perpetuity (or at least for 14 months?  In what planet is that legal?  That is theft.

Kudos to ATT Customer Service however for quickly reversing the charges and setting up a free charge blocker on the device to prevent further problems.  I got a live person very shortly after calling ATT, and they were most helpful.

Same happened to me . . . bogus $9.99 charge from "bullroare" on my AT&T account.  After reading all of the helpful info already posted here, I called AT&T and the rep quickly put the free "purchase blocker" on both phone numbers on my account.  AT&T then gave me an 8-digit passcode in case I want to allow a certain mobile purchase.  She said, in the future, I can manage mobile purchases at www.att.com/directbill (will need to key in 8-digit passcode).

I asked how these people might have gained access to my number.  She said she's not entirely sure, but the same thing happened to her.  She was on Web MD and wanted access to something.  Web MD site asked her for her cell phone # so they could text her a code or something.  After that, she saw all sorts of bogus charges show up on her bill.  Maybe that was just coincidence, but then again, maybe not.

So, bottom line:  call cell phone provider immediately and request the purchase/charge blocker on all phone numbers and devices.

ALSO:  Be sure to reply with "STOP" whenever you receive an unsolicited text, or even after you've received some sort of code confirmation or something.

These charges have been showing up on my bill since Nov. 2011. I caught it in January and ATT gladly took them off my bills. Today I looked at my Feb. statement and it was on there again. I called ATT and she said they will only adjust for this for 60 days, but went ahead and took care of it anyway. She said the only way the charges could appear on my bill was if someone responded to a text message, giving the company permission. I told her that wasn't possible on my phone, that I never respond to texts, emails, or any other solicitation that I don't know because answering lets them know they have a live, viable number. The ATT operator wanted to know if anyone else had access to my phone that might have downloaded it and of course the answer is no. She told me to put a password or lock on my phone because someone probably got a hold of my phone and authorized this. What a bogus thing for her to suggest. Please, isn't it possible that this could be a tad fraudulent? I asked her that and she said she supposed so but wanted to reiterate that someone must have gotten my phone and gave my number out to a bunch of people. Assuming it is somehow their customer's fault for downloading unauthorized things to their phones is irresponsible. She never suggested the company Bullroare could be at fault. She said it would cost me $5.00 a month to have the text messages blocked which I'm definately not paying for. I called the number on my bill and got an operator with a generic sounding name like "mobile services" and I explained what I wanted. She said they are just the middle man and I would have to call Bullroare directly and tell them to take my number off their list. The number given was 888-890-6150. I eventually got a live person that answered with another generic sounding name and I explained what had happened. He asked me it I wanted my number removed from the list (that easy) and before I answered, I asked him how the charges appeared on my phone and to give me the date the authorization for download was given. He couldn't. He said the only way for this to happen was that a text message was sent to me along with a 4 digit PIN which I had to put in to authorize the download. I asked him if he was really serious, that the company is actually going to tell me that I put in a 4 digit code to authorize something from someone I didn't know and didn't even know what the service was. He told me it was some sort of "fact a day" download and I told him he must be kidding if he thought I was buying his story. I told him there were several people that were contacting their local government about this and I would be doing the same, because this was blatantly fraudulent and illegal and people weren't as stupid as the company wanted us to think. I told him to not only put my number on his do not call list but to blacklist it from any and all companies he deals with. He said he would and I've since received 3 text messages from them telling me the same thing, that I will no longer be receiving text messages from them. Ironically, I have to pay separately for every text message I receive. I explained to him that this same thing happened on the same number from the same company several years ago and I didn't authorize it then just as I didn't now. They are programmed to give you the "spill" hoping you may think you forgot or you won't go through the hassle of taking care of it. Maybe if people keep calling ATT about these unauthorized charges, they will become motivated to do something about it. Will see what happens with March bill.

I just got hit by this as well. I have my account under a military suspension and was baffled when I got a bill saying I owed anything. After looking at the bill I seen this subscription from BULLROARE. Thankfully ATT refunded the money and eventually removed it from my account and added the purchase blocker. However, the first person who worked this issue for me said it couldn't be removed. ridiculous I tell you, but in the end another individual did remove it. Working with ATT is a huge pain; especially from afghanistan.

the number listed on the subscription was 8668611606

Put out the word to all you know on ATT. I know I will be. Take care.
