The "staff" does NOTHING - except repeat themselves about how it is a prisoner trying to call.
The recording just states  "if you would like to set up an account... or if you would  you like to add money to your account.... when you call, they ask for your name, phone number, address, phone carrier, etc.

Biggest scam ever!  Just a bunch of MONKEYS reading from scripts....

I had a call from a prison on Monday saying to press 5 to allow the collect call to come through. I hung up instead. Now Thursday I get an 800 call telling me to set up an account to pre-paid calling. I put that number into Google and found this location. Some nice person put a link to the Global people & I called their billing number. I was very wary when they asked for my name and phone number, so I made him (Roberto) explain what he was going to do, which was "block your number". I had to make up a PIN number. I gave him the info and he said my # was now blocked. He said there are no charges attached to my number. It does sound like things will be okay and I sure hope I'm right. I don't know anyone in prison/jail. Argh!!!!!!

I have been getting calls supposedly from prisoners at various places and today they say from "Global Tel Link".  They all want to know if I want to accept collect calls from them. I am on the do not call list. Whoever this is,  is really ignorant.  Do they think average working citizens would accept collect calls from people they don't know, much less prison inmates or unknown foreigners? Don't they know by now that we consider all unsolicited phone callers scammers?  This includes politicians, non-profiteers, charities, and anyone else who asks for money.  I'd like to tell these idiots to get a job! Mucking stalls and scrubbing toilets has dignity when one earns a living by it.  Those of us who work have done that at one time.  Are these people too proud?  Then quit begging!

This Is Global Tel Link but an inmate in a county jail somewhere is the one calling. Global Tel Link isn't going to just call you out of nowhere.  Someone who is incarcerated is calling your number. If you pick up and listen to the recording, it will most likely give a recording of the name of the inmate trying to call you (name is recorded by the inmate).  I have had a prepay Global Tel Link account in the past with no problems.  It is not a scam.  Just someone trying to call you from jail.  Many jails do not even allow collect calls to land lines anymore which is why they are asking for you to set up a prepaid account!

Who keep is this keep calling me?

They called 7-21-13 @ 8:23p and said I have a call from an inmate but the call could not be accepted because there was no money on the books or something of that nature. The problem is my son is in a facility but the number he called me from is different and I was given the opportunity to accept the call after his name was said. But this call did not have that option. I called the number back but got a recorded message. I'll have to keep a look at my bill to make sure nothing appears that I don't know about.

Got this call today but did not hear a name connected to the collect call. Not sure if I know anyone in jail right now. When I called back the recording gave the website www.offenderconnect.com. which did not help much for finding a name associated with the call.

I got a call from this number after receiving about 16 calls from a 713-568-6986 the day before. After making a quick google search, I found out that it's inmates making calls from jail or prison. I don't talk nor associate with people who are from that kind of environment, so no, it wasn't a "loved one" making a call. More like a scam or the inmate had the wrong number. In any case, the calls were driving me nuts and wanted it to stop. I bought a call blocking app for my phone. This app automatically (and very quickly) answered and hung up unwanted calls, preventing the call from being directed to voicemail. Problem solved!

its asking me to give them my credit card number to help pay or give money
I guess they think I have STUPID wrote across my forehead

This is a prison phone calling system. Prisoners can ONLY call you if you set up an account.  The first call is a collect call announcement saying there is a collect call from _____ prison.  My phone carrier does not accept collect calls so you have to "PRE-PAY" so the prisoner can call you.

The calls are not cheap.  Basic deposit is $25.00 / non-refunable.
Based on where you live and what Jail they are calling from the money goes fast.

I know this cause my friend is serving a small jail time and this is the only way he can call out.

If you dial 800-483-8314 the computer will verify your number.. you press 1 for "new account" & "add additional money to account"....   Seems to be straight forward.

The credit card will show GTL*INMATE PHONE SVC

Be strong for your inmate.. they need to talk to family or friends ...

I have also recieved calls from 800-483-8314.late at night-9:35pm and 10:pm.I can't understandspanish-so I can't say which prison is attempting to place a call,that they want me to set up an account(through a CC).
Whoever made the recording-talks way too fast for me to understand where it's coming from.I just hang up.

in response to George-if it's and inmate calling-are they allowed to call late at night?I have no idea when "lock down time" is...but I thought there were certain times they could call?

I also got a recorded call about card payment system, I didnt answer, but got a voice message.

I came home to a recording on my land line asking for some prepayment system, so i dialed the number.. listened to menu:  #1 for English, #2 for account info (i pressed 2 and was told no account was shown for my phone), #3 was to set up a new account .. that was their entire menu, but i pressed Zero -0- (not listed, but worth a try) ..    
sure enough, I was told to wait for next available agent, which i did for about 3 minutes, then a very solid sounding man asked what he could do.  He said the call was from a prisoner in the West Valley Detention Center in southern CA.  I asked if my number could be blocked and he asked my last name and my phone company name (that's all he requested, no credit card #, no bank account #, etc) and then he said my number was now blocked from receiving any future calls.

Sure would be nice if that works !   If any more calls do come to me, maybe the Better Business Bureau would be next ?
