- JasonThey just called my parent's home asking for me. Not sure why they would select the old info (as I lived there 10 years back and then again 2 years ago during the summer). My mother said the man on the other line was Asian and called himself John, though could barely speak English. When she let him know that their home wasn't where I lived, he abruptly said thank you and hung up.
Just called back the number that was given to me (1 800 669 0102) and got the same old messaging service machine, ALMOST entered in my SSN before my wife brought up the idea of a phishing scam, so stopped and checked this out online to find your comments.
My Bank of America (Countrywide / Taylor Bean and Whitaker) account is still in good standing and I'm up to date. Absolutely no reason why they should be calling.
Like everyone else says, if you get this call, DO NOT GIVE THEM INFO. - JasonCalled me today 11/18/09 on my cell phone. Since I do not answer calls from 800 numbers I sent them to Voice Mail. They left no message so I tried calling back from my home phone to see who it was. (My home phone number is blocked from sending caller ID information.) Their automated system wanted me to enter in my account number or SSN and zip code to access my account. I don't know who they are so why do they think I would enter in either? The system would not transfer me to a live person without an account number or SSN so I hung up. Word of advice to everyone, NEVER GIVE YOUR SSN TO ANYONE. Let them tell YOU who they are calling and NEVER VERIFY ANY INFORMATION THEY GIVE YOU OVER THE PHONE.
- HenryFor some reason, this 1800 number kept calling me for the past week with a pre-recorded message. They claimed they were calling me about my BoA home loan account which does not exist and have my "home loan account number" ready when I call them back. Funny they mentioned at the end of the call that this is "not a solicitation call". Official business?
I am registered on Do-Not-Call list, and still get this JUNK call.- Caller: Bank of America Home Loan
- CaliforniaI am getting several calls a day on my cell phone starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m. I have no idea why but they say they are a debt collector.
Then they ask you to give your loan # and when that does not work they ask for your soc. sec. #
Anyone who would ask for your social over the phone must be scamming.
I do not know how to get them to stop calling but I am certainly not, and have never been, in debt!- Caller: boa home servicing lp
- mikeI got a call from this line. Also was worried it was a scam. Called back but did not have my mortgage account handy. I called back into Countrywide using the # on my mortgage statement and found we did actually have a balance due because of some escrow shortage. It may be legit. But never call an un-trusted 800 # and give your SSN. Always refuse and then call back on a trusted customer service line.
BTW - Countrywide was acquired by Bank of America in January 2009 I think. I got the recorded message from Bank of America.- Caller: Countrywide / Bank of America
- GailI own my own business and they keep calling my company cell phone that my employee has, 7-8 times a day. It has used plan minutes and cost me 50 cents a call. They will not remove it on my say so. It has to be his say so. Who do I bill for 3 months worth of charges??
- AnnThey have caled two times in the last hour and that is when I look to see who it was.I don't have a morgage with them and the last time I did answer the call which I got hung up on because I was the wife and take care of most of the finances so what up with that.
- Caller: Countrywide home morgage
- Pissed OffBLOCK THE NUMBER IT'S A SCAM!!!!!!
- SaraThey call us 10 days before our mortgage payment is due and harass us telling us we are late on our payments. My husband tells them they have the wrong information, as our payment is not late, and asks why they harass us. They say (in broken English, of course) they must call us on our overdue payment and that they need further information to collect our payment from us. Again my husband tells them they have it wrong and we aren't late. We go through this about 3 times before he gets sick of the nonsense and hangs up on these crazies. Don't give out any info.
- Jeremy NgoI have been bombarded with phone call from 1-800669-0102. Please tell me why they are constantly call me and with automated message.
- Caller: None
- Kristine LarsonI get a call 2-4 times a day from this 1-800-669-102. When we answer no one is there. We have put on phone numbers on the do not call list months ago and thought by doing so we would not be bothered by these typ of calls.
- Caller: Loan Counseling
- Whistle BlowerI have received a call from this number numerous times, they say they are from BofA. I am not behind on my loan. I have explained this to them many times. The last time I told them to record my call as any time they call me I would blow my referee whistle into the phone and blast their ears. I have now given 5 of their reps fair warning and then blew my whistle as loud as I could into the phone. I have even called them back and asked them to hold for a second as I needed to give them some info. I then blast them with my whistle. My whistle sets by the phone and any time they call either myself or my wife will blow the whistle into the phone once we are sure their is a person on the other end. My goal is to have eventually blown the whistle into every employee in that organizations ears. PLEASE JOIN THE CAUSE, GET A WHISTLE AND BLOW IT!!!!
- Whistle Blower FanWhat a great idea! I am going to get a whistle tomorrow!!! We need more to join the cause.
- carenThis phone number should have a class action suit against it. It turns out that this time, oh joy of ALL joys, Bank of America has contracted out some of its customer service people to other lenders. I wonder why....hmmm, could it be that they're losing their own customer base due to their WONDERFUL (barf!)collection techniques and COURTEOUS (barf!) phone etiquette? Or is it their COMPASSION (heave!) towards others? Hmmmm....At any rate, WHOEVER it is that is using this number to HARASS and barage individuals isn't very smart. According to US Law, it is a FELONY to make harassing phone calls and to inudate someone with 50 CALLS PER DAY. Besides contact, hangups and otherwise a useless waste of time and money, they continue because people in debt think they have to take it. YOU DON'T. But you do have to file a grievance, enough grievances and it becomes a class action suit. Then you can sue ALL of the companies that use this number. It's against the law for a creditor to harass you. Keep a list of everytime the number calls. After a DAY, in most cases, you will have a long enough list to report it.
- carenSay, now that I know I'm not the only one, let's go "phishing" ourselves! I'll bring the bait, if you bring the beer! I wonder though, would it be a fly or trout pole? Probably should bring the big guns, the halibut pole. We can do some good phishin' with that!!!!
- NORMAHave had numerous calls from this number, i have called back, a machine answers and asks for my account number or my social security number. Is this a new way for someone to get me to reveal my social security no., which I gave them neither. It's pretty annoying, and scary. What can be done about this?
- philip kohlerthanks for your insight folks.
they wont renegotiate my loan because i am 'current'.
