A guy called me from 1800-669-0102. He claimed he was calling from Bank of American Mortgage apartment. Without telling me the purpose of his call, he asked for the last four digits of my Social Security Number. I didn't give him my social, of course, and I think this is a very suspicious call.

    Countrywide Home Loans
Countrywide took money out of my escrow account to buy in-house forced-placed flood insurance, on a house that did not require it. I sent proof (FEMA LOMR-C and Flood Determination sheets), so they canceled the flood insurance. But then they refused to put the money BACK into my account. They did this 4 more times over the next 2 1/2 years, putting my escrow account into a negetive amount. HUD finally got involved, told them they were in non-compliance, so they stopped. But CW still never put the money back into my account for the 5 times. We went to court, which dragged it out over 6 years, and CW lost the case. Then the judge ordered me to make all 6 years worth of back payments, but Countrywide's lawyer lied, claiming the payments were $950 per month (they were really $708 per month). That made the amount $30k MORE then what was really owed. I didn't have the extra $30K, so I lost the house anyway. That was back in March, 2010. I just now (Nov 2010) started getting 3-6 phone calls a day demanding payment, they claim I still own the house. The house has been vacant since March. If you are a lawyer, and would handle this case for me pro-bono, please eMail me at gaddisproperties@prodigy.net  My last lawyer wanted to start a class-action lawsuit against CW, but then fell ill, and is still ill today.

I should mention that most of the phone calls must be on a calling machine, because when you answer, no one is there.

Brother-in-law was laid off from work for about 6 months & fell behind in his house payments. Tried to work with BOFA on restructuring the loan, but negotiations went on for months with attorneys getting involved. In the meantime, these people have been calling OUR home as he lived with us over 15 years ago & our phone number got into his file way back then.  Every couple of months, yes even during the negotiations, we must explain over and over and over again to these people that he does not live here, that our phone number is not his.  Always told the same thing, it will take 24 - 48 hours to get the phone number removed.  The calls will stop for a couple of weeks, then resume.  This is even after he got the mortgage caught up and the loan restructured.  These people are leaving long drawn out messages on our phone including his full name and what the call is about. They have started again this week.  I answered the evening before Thanksgiving while the man was still leaving the message and surprise this time it was a recording and no one could respond to my screamin "Hello".  Our home has been paid off for more than10 years, but one thing is sure, if we ever buy another we will not go to Bank of America for the mortgage. We've seen how they treat their customers, AND non-customers.

Turn the tables on telemarketers. One of the most popular TV news stories I’ve ever done involves changing from victim to predator in the cold-calling jungle. Here’s how it works. Federal law requires that almost anyone who solicits you by phone give you their name and either address or phone number (which they virtually never do.) The law also requires that they call between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm. And if you ask to be put on their “do-not-call” list, nobody from that company is allowed to call you for ten years. Finally, they’re required to furnish you with their written “do-not-call” policy upon request. Now, here’s the cool part. Companies are allowed one mistake per year, then they are subject to a $500 fine per violation. So here’s what you do: keep a pad and pencil by the phone. When you’re cold-called, ask to be put on the “do-not-call” list, and ask for a copy of their written policy. Make a note of the date, time and person you talked to. If that company contacts you again, let them know you’re supposed to be on their “do-not-call” list. That was their one allowable mistake. If they call you again, get their address, because you’re about to make some money. Send a letter to the company threatening to sue them in your local small claims court for $500 per offense because the company is in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. More than likely the company will offer you a check ($250 to $300) to avoid the hassle of a court hearing that they’re going to lose. Believe it or not, informed Americans have already collected hundreds of thousands of dollars with this strategy (and no doubt had fun doing it!) That’s just the gist of what you need to know, however: to learn more, go to www.junkbusters.com. Sites like this can also help you reduce your junk mail.

It's Bank of America's Customer Retention dept.  It's legit, though sketchy-sounding.  Call BoA's customer service (via their website) to find out why they're calling.  It did this and got reassurances about my payment standing, but not tons of help on exactly why the calls were coming.
    Good Luck!

    Annoyed In Chicgo
They call every day for the past 3 months.  I don't have any loans with BOA or CountryWide. I call BOA and they state it's a collection agency they use, but don't know why they are calling me.  Every time they call they want me to say my full name and last 4 of SSN.  I tell them I am not the person they are looking for and they still want that information to take me off their calling list.  I researched it more and they are using a calling center out of INDIA, yes, INDIA for this service.  I feel the Indian call center has mixed up accounts and phone numbers.  They are using service like google and yahoo to try and track down debts.  This is ridiculous.  Please everyone reading this.  FILE A COMPLAINT with the do not call list.  Since I have no relationship with BOA or a mortgage with them I may be entitled to money if this harassment continues.  Do your part and file a complaint NOW.  Below is the link.

We receive a call EVERY hour from a recording. Since we do not have an account, we are unable to be contacted to a person who might remove our number from their list. The number cannot be called in return. It is infuriating and we will not ever do business with Bank of America.

Country Wide was bought out by Bank of America.  Last year.  If you had a loan with Country Wide you need to call BOA and tell them about Country Wides calls.

These people are driving me crazy! They call every day at all times of day and identify themselves as Bank America Home Loans.  I answered the phone the first time and told them I've never had a home loan as I paid cash for my home, and the man said they are the issuer of many credit cards.  When he said they wanted to tape record the conversation I said I was late for an appt and they would have to call back. Now they are calling several times a day and not leaving a message. They call sometimes late in the evening, sometimes very early.  I don't have any late payments on credit cards or have any loans. I just want them to stop calling me!!!!  Grrrrrrr......................  do I have to change my phone number to get rid of them?

I work for Bank of America and escalated this to our Coprporate Security Department.  The recording when you call 8006690102 says BAC Homeloans Servicing LP Debt Collector The Bank Of America Company that services your hoam loan.  They are NOT affiliated with Bank of America at all, but the bank can't stop these calls, as tracking these numbers is a nearly impossible task.  The best you can do is call the phone company and have this number blocked. Do not judge the bank based on the actions of criminals trying to take advantage of you.  NEVER provide bank information over the phone, NEVER respond to emails regarding your banking. ALWAYS visit your local banking center and speak with your Bank Manager. They can contact different departments to confirm whether or not calls were made to you by Bank of America.
