i received a call from thomas landis's office after threatening me with big court cost and such for a debt my deceased husband incurred over 10yrs ago.i was awakened from sleep by this call and was convinced that i was in real trouble.i mistakenly gave my checking account# having monies to be taken out that i can not afford.i have two children a terminally ill sister also my mother in a nursing home that i'm responsable for.i told them that and that i get a lousy 400.00 a month for myself to live on.they heartlessly told me i had to give them at least 250.00 a month or i would be in big trouble and suffer dire consaquences.what horriable people i'm just one person doing the best i can to take care of the people i love.i should've never gave them any information till i checked them out.

To make a very long story short, these people are in violation of so many different articles of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that it's borderline comical.  DO NOT give these people any information!!!  PLEASE click on this link http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf for a copy of the Federal Trade Commissions Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.  It's full of useful information you can be armed with the next time these people call.  Recently my wife and I started getting messages on our house phone looking for someone who isn't myself or my wife.  After several calls letting them know that no one by that name lived at our home, we continued to get calls.  Finally my wife called again yesterday and demanded to know where they had gotten our information to which the person on the other end refused, claiming it was against federal law to provide any information about a party whom we were not affialiated with.  To make a very long story short, my wife and our attorney got on the phone at the same time and told them we'd be sending a cease communication to them.  They were extremely rude people who somehow obtained my social security number which scares the hell out of me, but as of this morning my credit report is still clean and I've put an initial 90 day fraud alert on my credit reports and once one of the three credit reporting agencies is alerted, they send messages to the other two.  I also recommend everyone do this in case these people try to do anything illegal with your information. Also I'm going to be alerting my credit card companies to put a fraud alert on all of them and initiating a credit freeze which would stop anyone from opening new credit accounts using my information.  Anyway, the debt they are trying to collect isn't mine nor are their practices in compliance with the FDCPA which I included a link for above.  To start, I would ask the people calling you to send you a written document with the information required in the Fair Debt Act, and then also abide by the other articles to stop these people from contacting you or intimidating you.  They cannot by law enforce any debts, put liens on your property, garnish wages...any of it!  Despite whatever they claim, they can't do any of it.  So in conclusion...never give them your information or confirm anything, DO file a complaint with the FTC if they violate any of the articles in the Fair Debt Act, DO spread the word!  Let's all fight back and try to stop these people.

I received a letter in the mail about a month ago from the law offices of Thomas Landis, Esq at Four Greenwood Square, Suite 220.  They said that they were on their final attempt before lawsuit...hmmm!  I recommend everyone who is receiving calls from this law office read over the Fair Debt Collections Act.  Write the law offices and request for them to stop calling you, your family and your business. Also send this letter to the Better Business Bureau and all three credit reporting agencies disputing the debt if this is an issue.

We received a call stating we had a debt of 9716.00 for a water filtration system installed in 1999 and owed the above balance, well I requested a copy of the signature on the original bill and also address of loction where the system was installed. Was told by Joan Chandler Legal Assistant would call back the next day, while on hold a rude nut case named Mark got on the phone yelling and screaming and demanding payment I stated to him he was being recorded and he hung up in Texas we can record calls without caller being made aware of. Sheriffs dept notified, filed complaint with PA Attorney Genral's Office. And now a lawsuit against them. Please avoid these NUTS

It looks like we need to have a class action suit with Thomas Landis Esq. and All attorneys att this firm. I do not now or have ever had a personal letter or claim with or from this firm, but it looks like the attorneys at this firm bend or brake the law at every chance it can.

Got 2 calls from 800-853-4000.  Called back twice to see who was calling from a "law office".  They stitched me to 4 different people who didn't seem to know who called and left these messages. One even asked for my social security number!!!  And 1 asked me for the last 4 digits of my social security number !!!  I do not owe anyone or late on any bills I pay.  A Mr. Tom Landis, Greg Johnston, and a Kim and someone else.  Never could tall me who was calling but "alaw office"!!!!  Said cases only stay in his office 2 days before being passed on to another office.  Nothing made sense or logic against anything! Obvisously, I didn't leave them with any numbers.  I don't intend to call that number back if I get anymore messages.

I received a call from a man named Paul Kenwood who clearly identified himself as an "attorney".  My subsequent research shows he is not an attorney.

He used every unethical and illegal tactic in the book  to intimidate and reduce my wife to pulp by backing her into a corner of fear.   Here are two or three examples of the words he chose to use:

    - There are new laws on the books that will allow me to have your house taken from you for the purpose of settling your credit card debt.

    - If you don't pay the amount you owe withing my timeframe, you might as well start looking for an apartment.

    - He yelled "you are the reason our country is in this (economical) mess".

All of this over a 10k credit card settlement.

I will be following up with this through my attorney and will be very surprised if I don't actually end up with a monetary settlement from Thomas Landis Law Firm and/or the firm will be fined by the state of Pennsylvania.

Left urgent messages, looking for my ex-husband. When I called back they said it was a "very serious" claim against him, not having to do with money, but that it could affect his immigration status.
They asked me to try to find out any information I could on him & get back to them. Made it sound like life or death situation. I told them to please stop calling my number.

I have received tons of calls from this Attny Tom Landis.  They have left messages over the last two days for my husband stating that it has been verified that he is in fact getting these messages.  He is not...he is currently deployed and has been for a year!!  I called them back and they threatened to take everything away from me.  They told me that I have to come up with $4000 by tomorrow or else litigation will start the following day against my husband.  I explained that I do not have that kind of money and that they cannot take him to court while he is deployed.  The woman...Elizabeth ext 116...screamed at me and made me cry.  I was so afraid so I got on the computer and looked up the number and saw all of the postings about this so called attny

Message from Susan Barnes 800-853-4000 x 118 @ Tom Landis and a case number, used my name and said to call ASAP.  Seemed like a fraud since we don't have any bad debt and check our credit reports yearly and just did so a few months ago.  Glad this is here to confirm my suspicions!  Did not call and will not.

Oh thanks GOD I found this website when I looked into the number.  I just received a call on my cell phone regarding something to do with some lawyer but when I heard the name closely it was for someone else.  The GUY Tom Landie or what ever his made up name was, was Chewing on something while talking.  A well trained Lawyer does not chew on food while on the phone with individual or leave msg for individuals with debts LOL I wanted to laugh harder then I am laughing now.  If Tom Landis or any of his members of bogus callers are reading this, be awere because your calls will get you in trouble one day!!! Get a Life and get the facts right instead of bother people who don't even know you!!!

I have rec'd several calls over the past few months from 215-642-3395, caller id "unknown".  I don't return unknown or blocked calls.  On 1/19/09, a message from a "Joe Walker" from this 215# asked me to return his call to 800-853-4000, in reference to a debt that he "really needed to reach a decision on today."  I was curious as I don't owe any money to anyone, so I called and spoke with "Joe" who referenced an issue, already resolved, from 2000. I asked a few questions that he could not answer. He became flustered when I asked to speak with the attorney himself, got worse when I asked what specifically his job was, as he had portrayed himself as the person responsible for making a determination in his phone message.  He was unable to provide a job title, told me I could not speak with Atty Landris and hung up on me.  He honestly sounded like he hadn't ingested the necessary amount of alcohol yet to appear "sober".
I called back, told the receptionist that I did not want to speak with "Joe" again, but the attorney himself. She was very polite, and transfered me to "Mike".  Turns out that "Mike "was not an attorney either. He became defensive when I questioned whether this company was a collection agency.  After a bit of bickering, threatening to garnish my wages, reminding me "that anything (I) say can and will be used against me" (to which I replied "likewise" I was having fun now, never having been Mirandized before. Unusual, I thought, for a debt collector..)  I asked again to speak with the attorney, who was "in a meeting". (surprise).  I asked "Mike" who I should ask for when I called back after the meeting, and was told "Mike".  This Mike #1 had to shout to other employees to obtain "Mike" #2's last name and had difficulty determining a ball-park time to call "Mike Meyers" back after the meeting.  After a bit of sputtering, he shouted "45 minutes!", complained that I had wasted his time, and told me to have a nice day.  Needless to say , I did not call Mike Meyers back.

i recived a call from them as well. Turns out that they are called " The law Offices of Attorney Thomas Landis" I looked into it and though they seem to have a ton of compliants and compliance issues they are a legit law firm. Steve Rollins was in charge of my account and he actually was very helpfull and listened to me. He did'nt belittle me and seemed to sincerely care about my situation. He hooked me up with a great deal on my credit card debt...just a heads up. Some of them may genuinly be ass-holes but Steven Rollins is actually a good guy!

I also got call from a Ms. Alexanders at Attorny Landis' office (actually could not understand her so didn't know if it was Landis, Landrum or something else along those lines).  She had my name and referenced a file number and asked me to call 800-853-4000 x140.  So glad to have found this site & after reading the comments will probably not call back ... but if I do the call will definitely be recorded or on speaker phone in the presence of witnesses, like some of my friends at the AG's office.

P.S. the caller id phone number was 215-642-3400

I rec'd many phone calls from this agency regarding an old debt that I owed.  In August I was given a verbal dollar amount to give to them as a way to satisfy this debt.  They insisted I pay right than over the phone (before getting anything in writing) and unfortunately I fell to their prey.

I rec'd a letter from them on 8/18/08 stating they were going to withdrew promised amount from my checking account.  I was verbally told I would receive a letter of satisfaction.  I did not hear back frm them until recently where I was told that I just made a payment on this account and it was NOT paid off.  I have been going round and round with them since.  They will switch me from one nasty person to another.  Finally last week after being hung up on several time within 15 minutes I spoke to a Chris Myers who said he was the office manager.  He assured me that the debt was indeed closed and I would receive somehting in the mail.  Still nothing.

I am getting ready to call them back tonight and am already working on a migrane headache just thinking about it.  Who can I report them to???

PLEASE HELP.  JUST LOST MY HUSBAND AND MY JOB.

Got a call from this place asking for my husband by name but knew immediately something was wrong.  The "assistant" left a message with a case number as if we should already be familiar with it and phone number. I called back and was told the extension left wasn't a working extension but the offices were closed for the night.

I googled and came upon this site and several others linking them to a scam. I won't bother calling them back. We screen, so good luck to them catching up to us.

If your debt is in order and you know what debt you have out there, there's no way someone should be able to get at you this way.  Even if I thought we had some debt out there, I had forgotten, I would expect to have received messages from the original company not these crack pots.  Screw em!
