It's obvious by now it's a scam, but to add another name and extension to this outrageously long list:

    Renee Garrett "legal assistant"
800-853-4000- X236 (the extension rang and rang and finally said this was not a valid extension, but I know I wrote it down correctly)

Guys, I know you don't want to hear this, but this is real. I called Citibank directly in reference to the account number, and was transferred to another division, who then gave me the number 1-800-853-4000. Citibank themselves directed me to this office.

I got a "Confidential" call on my answering machine from a Renee Quinn from the law offices of Thomas Landis stating that I was to return a call to this 1-800 number in regards to a Jane or Betty Fowler.  I did return the call and Renee @ extension 178 told me that I had been named as a reference for Jane or Betty Fowler.  I told her I have no clue who these people are.  She told me that they lived in Montgomery, Alabama and then in California.  She gave a reference # of 1538036.

Add me to the list as of 2/23/09. Anthony, a rep with apparently no last name, called at my place of employment today looking for my husband regarding a personal matter. I took his info, 1-800-853-400, ext. 109 and said I would relay the info.  He was insistant on the spelling of my name and further information but I did not provide it. Why isn't anyone checking into this company/firm/individual ?

I was also called today. I asked to have a letter sent showing my debt and proof of who they are. I was told by Renee Quinn and Chris Meyers that they do not send anything in the mail. They are both ''legal assistants'' and I asked to speak to Mr. Landis. Renee Quinn told me I was not allowed to speak to him. She also told me my social security number, how did they get it? They were both rude and very short. They said I have until the end of the week to make a payment to them or they will tell thier client to proceed against me in my state.

My son (same last name) recieved a call from this outfit claiming that I owed a debt and if I didn't call them back by Friday they were going to file suit. I called the 8004534000 for Lisa Mison and, although a man came on the line, he said it was over an MBNA account.  I had paid it two years before to a legitimate collection company.  I told them as much.  They wanted me to FAX them proof.  I pulled my file and started to send it, but it just didn't smell right.  I'm glad I researched.  My next stop is the PA Atty General. Thanks to all that make these consumer sites available.

I got a voicemail from this attorney's office today... I started freakin out till I got on this site... I appreciate all the post. I did call back and left a voicemail for Mark Houston at x107 stating that I had no business with this attorney and that I did not have any unpaid debt. Not sure if I will get a call back, but after reading all the post from individuals that have receieved calls as well I feel even more so that this "office" is a fraud. Thanks to all that have posted before me!

I filed as well with the PA offices against this company for my father who is disabled and I took care of his debt for him back in July 08' a new company is now claiming to have purchased the loan with no records of the payment I paid on his behalf, thank god I have the cancelled checks still and hopefully something will be done about these clearly fraudulent individuals...

I asked how she got my name, she said I was listed as a contact number with their office.. She gave me the phone number 800-853-4000 ext.116 to give to my brother. I received a letter and follow up phone call. I do owe what they claim but SOL has been up for several years.I talked to coworker who is also the mayor of a town where I live. He told me to ignore them and the only thing they can do is get a judgment against me.I tried to set up payment plan but they wouldn't accept it.They said what I could afford wasn't enough. They told me to get the money or they were going to do a background check and find out exactly how much property I owned.I don't own any property.I told them good luck. After reading all the info on this site,I will not be talking to them anymore. Thanks so much for all the info.

I got a call from them today, too, for a debt that isn't mine.

Some advice to the rest of you: don't bother complaining to the attorney general in PA.  What you want to do is contact the Pennsylvania Bar Association.  They license attorneys and you can lodge a formal, written complaint against him.  If your complaint is successful, he can be reprimanded, suspended or even disbarred from the practice of law.  The AG doesn't care, but the Bar HAS to investigate EVERY complaint.  Further, he will be contacted by the Bar and forced to go through a formal procedure for EVERY complaint.

If you receive a threat, complain to the Bar that he is practicing law outside of PA - the state that he is licensed to practice in.  Practicing law in a state you are not licensed to practice in is a serious offense and can get an attorney disbarred.

Also, you should file a complaint against him in the state you live in.  If you live in New York, for example, contact the New York State Bar and file a complaint saying that he is engaged in the unauthorized practice of law in New York.  Again, they have to investigate and can take action that the Pennsylvania Bar must follow.

Please, everyone reading this, go file a Bar complaint.  This is the only way to stop these people.  It is completely legal and within your rights to file a formal Bar complaint.  Not many people know about this, but all it will take is one successful complaint to put an end to this.

I received two phone calls from Eve Jones from the law office of Thomas Landis saying that I owed over 1,000 to a credit card that I never even heard of going back to 1987.  After taking her information and talking to my husband we figured it was some kind of mistake and never called back. She left us a nasty message yesterday demanding that we call and make a "deal" to pay at least 1/2 the money to prevent it going to collection!!!  Who are these people?????
