Wow this site is great, i've been getting two-three calls a day from this phone number as well, but i do have a card that i hadnt activated yet.....guess i need to get on that, thanks for the info guys.

It seems pretty obvious what is going on here.  1-800-955-7070 is indeed a number registered to Capital One.  Someone has created a scam...one that involves a fraudulent call-making technique where it APPEARS as though 1-800-955-7070 is calling.  

They will say they are from Capital One, but if they are asking for personal information, you can bet this is the scammers with a fake call.  These are the cause of all of the suspicious and negative comments here.

You see positive responses in here because at other times Capital One is indeed calling from this number.  They call with promotions and information.

I missed the only call from this number (so far), but it was on the same day I made my first payment on a new Capital One credit card.  I suspect I got a real call, but no message was left.  Through some research, it seems like they are making sure to inform me that I will receive a credit line increase if I use my card and make my first 6 payments on time.

From Capital One. I had a card that I hadn't activated until recently. I simply asked for them to stop calling, they agreed to stop and apologized.

My husband and I were on vacation for a week out of town and when we got home we had this phone number on our caller id,1-800-955-7070. Just wondering what this is in regards to cause all of our bills are paid. If it has anything to do with credit protection or anything we are not interested. Please respond back when you can due to these calls can get annoying when they call daily.

I answered....They said they are affiliated with Capital One offering a special program, insurance I think.

This number has been calling me 2-3 times a day for about 2 weeks now but leaves no messages. From what I've read about everything being posted so far, it's probably Capital One, the only problem is I don't have an account with them. SCAM!

Capital One, they were calling to offer the option to go over an account balance for an additional fee (Obama passed legislation to prohibit these fee's unless they are with customer opt in).

I started getting these calls about a week ago. Its at least twice a day. I do have a CapOne account, but I am in good standing. I did just change my address and the calls started right after that. But they never leave messages so I don't answer.... weird.

I keep getting calls from this 800 # and don't know who it is.

Not sure about this, but I agree with other comments about this likely being a scam.

I don't have any accounts with Capital One. I guess I'll pick up next time they call and let them try to scam me. ;-p

Don't answer and call the number back on a different phone. It IS the number C1 lists on its customer service page.

Keeps calling but no message

Called and asked for my birthdate.

I just got off the phone with the REAL Capital One.  I called the number off of my statement.  Michael with C1 checked the number with their records... this number is NOT affliated with them at all, not insurance, not credit protection, not anything!  He then turned around and put a "block" on my card to where only myself or my husband can get or do anything with my credit.  I've worked hard to get my credit reports back on track, I won't let anyone mess it up now!

Learn from experience (not mine, but a friend) NEVER give out your information like that to ANYONE that calls you!  Even if they say "I'll give you a number to call back".  Legitimate credit card companies send the "snail mail junk mail" if you are being offered a card.
