Wondering if it was a scam
Got a call re suspicious activity on my account...returned call...had me confirm last 4 digits of social, had information on several recent credit card purchases I had made & one on-line purchase that I hadn't authorized so they said they were going to going to cancel my card & re-issue a new one.....after I hung up and thinking I just got duped, I called Chase at the number listed on the back of my card, ...they confirmed they had just closed my account, setting up a new one & that it was chase fraud dept that had called....

so it appears legit however with hindsight I never should have confirmed anything without having called the published support number ...I should know better & Chase should come up with a better way to handle...

hope this helps the next person....

This is a SCAM!!! Any other posts on this mesage board are the SCAMMER's still trying to catch stupid people who will give out their personal information.  Go ahead, give them your personal info and watch how the fraud charges rack up on your card.  If you want info on your credit card, ALWAYS start with the number on the back of the card!!!

Obviously a scam - and the scammers are trying hard on this site to tell you it is not.  Message left to call back this number gave last four of card number, a Chase card, Amazon account, for Mr Ronald Swanson.  But, 1) - we have chase cards, NOT ending with those digits, 2) we are not Ronald Swanson.  Caller who left message sounds very strung out on drugs, slurred speech, unintelligible at times, slow speaking, with afro- or hispanic accent.

We will not be contacting chase.  Just wonder how this freak got my wife's cell number.  Obviously a phishing trip.

By the way readers: take security precautions....

    1.  Credit card companies WILL call you for suspicious activity, as will banks (my national bank called me with a suspicious attempt. It was an automated call that told me to contact the fraud department through the number on the back of my card.).
    2.  They will NEVER call you and ask for your personal information such as card number, ssn, or any thing else, nor portions thereof.
    3.  NEVER EVER CALL BACK A NUMBER for a card or other personal information that is provided to you UNLESS that number is on the back of your card (Don't necessarily trust web sites - URLs can be redirected to phony scams).
    4.  NEVER EVER EVER give your personal identification information to ANYONE who calls.. PERIOD!!!!  Only give it when you call the right number.
    5.  BANKS, Credit Card companies will NEVER send you email with links to log into their site to verify security information.
    6.  IF IT FEELS FISHY - IT PROBABLY IS.
    7.  I wonder if the FBI would be interested in not only this number, but also those who posted on this site saying the number is NOT bogus. I will try to find out.

Not a scam.  Is the direct number, per the CSR, to Chase Fraud department.  After reading here that others were reporting this number as being a scam, I looked online for the fraud number and called it instead.

Does this site have a moderator?  This is clearly a legitimate number (verified by calling Chase number on back of card).  Can't the moderator clearly note that this is a legitimate number at the top of the thread?

I received a call from this number and I let it roll to voicemail because I didn't recognize the number. They left a voicemail saying they wanted to verify some charges and to call the # back. I was questioning the validity of the number because I couldn't locate it through Google. I called the # on the back of my debit card and the guy said there weren't any pending or questionable charges. I even gave him the 800 number left in my voicemail. He did a search but couldn't find it and said it was probably a phishing scam. I called the # on the back of my credit card and this one had more luck. They were able to verify that they called and left a message, and there was one pending charge that was in question. I am glad to know it's not a scam though I find it troubling that Chase Debit didn't know what chase Credit was doing, or that a Chase Credit Fraud Prevention number was valid.

It is not a scam #.

800-955-9060 does not seem like a scam. I called the number on the back of my card. They confirmed exactly what the original caller was telling me (potentially fraudulent activity with specific transactions). So, unless somebody manages to intercept calls to Chase legitimate customer service number and play their music, this is probably legit.

This isn't a scam everyone. I'm only 15 and my mom received a call today from 1-800-454-9078 saying there were unusual purchases on her card. Then they said to call 1-800-955-9060. We didn't end up calling that because I looked up both the numbers online. Many people say this is a scam but IT IS NOT. There were really fraudulent purchases on the card to netflix and kidrobot online. Both of which were not us. It seemed suspicious that Chase was able to detect someone else using this card just from two purchases, but they were, indeed, correct. If you still don't believe this, call the number on the back of your card and ask them if anyone had called you today from their company regarding fraudulent purchases. For us we did this, and there were calls from them to us regarding this. Yet again they were being legit. They canceled our card and are sending us a new one. This has amazed me at how precise they were on watching the purchases, and that someone was paying close attention to detail. Thanks Chase, for saving us from A LOT more problems that could have come our way from this. But the only suggestion I have, is that for your caller ID have your name on it as well, instead of just "Credit Card SVC" and giving us suspicious numbers. But all in all, if you do your research, then this is all legit.

Everybody, there's a difference between a number that shows up on your caller ID and a number that you call.  The number that shows up on your caller ID can be faked by anybody, so if you get a call from this number and they ask you something, you shouldn't answer it.  Calling the number, though, will definitely connect you to Chase.  If you have any concerns, though, just hang up and call the number on the back of your card.

Another thing, Chase will just ask you for the last 4 digits of your card and social security number.  If they ask for more, that's likely a problem.

This number is legitimate. My parents got a call from 800-955-9060 from Christy from Chase. I wondered how they got my parents number and found out that they didn't have a valid phone number for me in their support database, in which case they do an address verification which pulls up past residences over your lifetime. I also found out that the information in their support system doesn't interface with the website profile, so even if you update the website profile, the fraud department doesn't have access to it, which is why they looked up my parents. Further more, I called the number that Christy left at my parents. It didn't mention Chase on the voice prompt, it just asked for a credit card number, so I was suspicious. I pressed zero for an operator and got a nice lady that answered as a Chase rep. I told her that I thought she was a scam, so she suggested I call the number on the back of my card. When I did and asked about the number, they verified it was Chase, but admitted that it was a poor voice recording not identifying themselves as Chase. Please do yourself a favor. Call the number on the back of the card if you are ever unsure.

It is Chase. I called the number on the back of my card 800-945-2000 as well as Credit Card Customers (Personal) 1-800-432-3117 as on the Chase website and they both gave me the same Fraud Protection direct line of 800-955-9060.

If you dont believe it, call the number and find out for yourself. I cant believe people are arguing about this when it is so easy to find out for yourself.

well, i didn't have a number from this call per se` but i had one that said to call it fron a different number.

it wasn't them, but i did have a few on there they wanted to ask me about.

if you got the call, it may be a better thing to just call the number on your card and check anyway.

I called chase today to verify that this number, 800-955-9060, is legit. I contacted chase via the phone number for customer service that appears on my credit card. The woman I spoke to indicated that this is a legit chase phone number - it is their fraud department.
