- David W.NOT A SCAM
My wife told me Chase called me about a suspicious charge to my credit card. I googled and found this page and thought it was a scam. But I called back the number anyway. I never had to give credit card number because I didn't know which card was charged. Eventually it was determined some company called Alibaba charged $598 to one of my Chase credit cards. They closed this account (and will re-issue one). I am glad they caught this and made efforts to call me. - LegitBeing a victim of identity theft, I was concerned when someone called me to verify my information. Although I knew I did apply for a Chase Visa card, I still wanted to make sure this was a legitimate call. I was given the (800) 955-9060 number to call back. I then called Chase and spoke to the fraud department who confirmed that this number is LEGIT.
- angery guy who came to this siteTHIS IS NOT A SCAM. you can call the number on back of you card and ask them and THEY WILL TELL YOU THAT NUMBER IS NOT A SCAM!!!
[removed:lang] WASTING MY TIME TELLING THIS NUMBER IS A SCAM!!! it's NOT!!! - bill mattthis caller dont say anything. they just daily call.
- YvoI received a call this morning and was suspicious when the question she asked didn't seem to have anything to do with my card (what other banks do you use, where do you buy gas [I was half asleep and initially thought they were verifying purchases], do you have any department store cards, when's your birthday) and finally stopped and said "How do I know YOU'RE from Chase?" and she seemed taken aback. So she gave me a number to call back that just picks up automated voice says enter your full account number "This is Credit Card Fraud Protection" but no mention of Chase. So I got to work and Google'd up this site. But then I called the number on the back of my card and they verified that they'd contacted me earlier and that they wanted to verify some recent activity, and did so. No need to enter my full account #. Basically- this is legit.

- DanGot a call from this number telling me there may have been fraudelent activity on my Chase Visa. Now I have never had a Chase Visa in my life, so I knew pretty quick that this was a scam.
- DanIf anyone is curious, the number to Chase, as per their website, is 800 955-8060. Clever trick, just changing one digit. If you get a call from this number, I'd suggest calling the number on the back of the card. You know that one is legit.
- ScottFolks, this number is legit, but I can see why people might not think so. It only announces "Fraud Prevention Operation" and asks you to enter your card number. Whoa - red flag!!! However, after calling the number on the back of my Southwest Airlines Chase card they confirmed that have been trying to reach me regarding some suspicious charges that turned out to be fraudulent. They left a message at home with my wife, and at my work number. Good thing I called them back!
- GraceDefinitely not a scam. 1-800-955-9060 is the Fraud Department. I checked with JP Morgan/Chase, and they verified that this is a legitimate Chase number. It was definitely urgent because someone else was in fact using my card.
- SteveI just contacted Chase via 1-800-432-3117 and the representative told me there that they didn't have any record of 1-800-955-9060 in the system...thus likely a scam.
- jI received a call with a message to call this number. I googled the number and came to this website. With the mixed messages I decided to call the number on the back of my card instead. After asking a number of security questions, they advised that there was an attempt to purchase a $4,000 airline ticket with some airline I never heard of. They have closed the account and will be sending me a new card in the mail. Glad that they called!
- wendycalled chase bank by phone 877bankone (use to be bank one) they said the number is not valid
- MelanieThe phone number is NOT a scam. I was really suspicious as well since they asked for your full account number, but I called the number on the back of my Chase credit card and they confirmed that I DID speak with their fraud department. If you're still worried about this number, just call the number on the back of your card and get transfered. Credit card fraud isn't something to take chances with.
- NateThis number is the Chase Fraud Dept. and is legitimate. I called it back directly, and after (possibly unwisely) entering my full 16 digit CC#, and after they asked me a few security questions (to presumably verify MY identity), they had information about other transactions that I had made on that account that no one else but Chase would know about, and also about a red-flag transaction that was actually fraudulent. Additionally later I called the number on the back of my CC and they confirmed my account had been closed for security reasons and that a new CC was being issued to me.
Details:
I received a call from another number (480-902-6000) saying they were from the Chase Fraud Department. They asked for me by name and did not ask for any other account information. They proceeded to tell me there were about $2500 in charges that were attempted to be made to my account via some travel website (I forget the name of the site). They told me the charges did not actually go through because whomever it was canceled the transaction when asked for the last 4 digits of the account holder's SSN (which would be my SSN). Even though the charges did not go through, they still called me to verify I had not lost my card and that it was not me who had attempted to make the charges.
I said I would need to verify that my girlfriend had not attempted to make the charges (by coincidence she was going to be purchasing airline tickets around the same time and was using my CC), and asked for a number to call them back at, which is when they gave me the 800-955-9060 number.
I then called 800-955-9060 back to confirm that I had NOT made that attempted charge. The computer did ask for my whole 16 digit CC# which I thought odd, but not being very paranoid I entered it. Then I was transferred to a different person from the one who called me originally (the original caller was an American-sounding male) who did sound like she was from the Phillipines. She asked me a few other security questions including last 4 of SSN, which bank I make payments to the account from, and my home address. After answering these questions, she confirmed that they had called me earlier and when I told them that the $2500 attempted transaction was fraudulent, she then proceeded to verify several other transactions that had been made recently to the account. These other transactions were mine, and only Chase would have access to that information. She then told me they would be canceling my account and sending me a new card with a new account number.
Only later did I become paranoid and decided to call the number on the back of my credit card, at which point I was informed that my account had in fact been closed due to security reasons and a new card was being issued to me. Therefore the 800-955-9060 number does belong to Chase.
Through further research I found that Chase does have a call center based in the Phillipines, and that the 800-955-9060 number is a direct number which bypasses several menu options. That is probably why you can't find it directly on the Chase.com site (I actually couldn't find any direct number for the Fraud Dept), and that is also probably why it asks for all 16 digits of the CC# instead of just the last 4, because it's on a slightly different system. Supposedly Chase has stated they are working on updating that interface.- Caller: Chase Fraud Dept
- AI got a call from 800-955-9060 that there is a new credit card application on my name and they want to verify it was really mine. I refused to give my personal information over the phone and call Chase number from the back of my card. Their fraud department confirmed that a new card was open a couple days before and they will close it. Also they say the number is their.
- BKMI got a call from this these guys. They left the call back # of 800 955 9060. I tried logging onto my account online, but was unable to. After reading comments here, I decided to call the # on the back of my card instead. They confirmed that they had tried to reach me and that my card had been attempted to be used for napster, itunes, and $1286 for an airline ticket. I canceled the card.
I agree that you should always call the # on your card. However, in this case, it was legit.
I rarely use this card - but had recently used it at Home Depot (online) and Ikea (by phone). - HMDefinitely call the # on the back of your card to respond for safety's sake, HOWEVER a message was left with the 9060# and I did confirm from the number on the card that they HAD attempted to contact me and there WAS a legit problem.
- This Is MeThis is legitimate; if you're weary about calling it, call the number on the back of your card instead and go from there.
- Caller: Chase Fraud Center
- JohnIt's legitimate, but it would make more sense for Chase to say "call the number on the back of your credit card". That's what I did - the Chase fraud people were checking some supicious (to them) transactions. Fair enough.
- leoIT'S DEFINITELY A SCAM. "Hearing Impaired" number is one digit different, i.e., 8060, instead of 9060 scam number. They seem to have found a way to hi-jack in-bound calls to legitimate Chase numbers. One agent asked totally inappropriate questions relating to past addresses, past employers, etc. None were offended when I challenged their veracity!
