I just recieved a call from this number a couple of minutes ago and I picked up. The voice was crackly enough that I couldn't even understand who it was or what they were calling about (it sounded like they were disguising their voice) so I hung up and searched the number more out of curiosity than anything. What makes me really skeptical is that I am using my dad's ebay account and I never gave paypal or ebay my phone number, they only have my dad's, so I have reason to believe that this is fraud.

Automated message (left voicemail) from eBay telling me a buyer opened a dispute; at any given time I usually have at least one dispute open but only receive these messages every couple of months. It is eBay, but the calls are unnecessary.

here is what I have sent to spoof@eBay.com
    Hello
I might need to alert you to a potential scam saying it originates from eBay, but if I am mistaken then please help me clear that up.
I received a phone call at 9:50 Eastern from this number: 1-801-545-1800 and had an extremely awkward conversation with a person with a very rough, messed up voice.  It sounded like they had a horrible case of laryngitis and should not have been at work.  The usual problem with marketeering or technical calls is some sort of accent, but I can usually work through those pretty easily.  However, this person had virtually no foreign accent just some sort of throat condition that I would almost guess is fatal.  They read from a specific statement and did so very rapidly which complicated things, so I tried again and again to get them to answer questions about the parts that I just was not hearing.  Unfortunately they did not answer my questions preferring to just read the whole statement or part of statement, again rapidly.  That is to say, when, after numerous repetitions, I could understand all but one or two words they would not repeat just the one or two words, they would restate the entire segment, rapidly and muddle things up further.
I have done some scam checking and there are an equal number of respondents saying that this is a scam call and reporting that it is truly from eBay's research.  In the event that it was a phishing event I answered nothing that labelled my personal information or damaged me.  If it should turn out that this was a legitimate eBay call, I really think someone should run down to that employee with a lozenge as though this is a life or death emergency.  I did a few times ask if there was someone else there that could read the statement, but they repeatedly did not send someone else to the phone preferring to befuddle me with their voice further.  That last was like my final piece of evidence that this might be a scam since most eBay callers work in a room filled, verily covered with callers.  From then up I was mostly listening to try to hear things to report here.  It seemed they wanted to simply verify that I was the main user of the account and since I could not hear the caller and they could not authorize a call back they left it at saying that they'd send out an email.
    Thanks.

    READ THIS ONE FIRST
They call you, you come here to research, you enter something on this page and then there are ads on the sides and top and bottom, THAT is the scam, just an attempt to get you to come to this page to report something only to see these ads and hopefully click them!!!

I just received a call from this number but couldn't answer in time. However, a very nice man left a message telling me all about some new changes that eBay will be implementing in September. The info he left in the message is the same as that I received in an email about the same changes.

He also included a website address to see the changes if I needed more info. I checked that out and it is eBay as well.

THIS IS NOT A SCAM. Everyone here just seems to be paranoid

Message from Ebay concerning their new policies which are coming in the next couple of months.  This was a recorded message.  The policies were already sent to me via the Ebay message system.  Seems legit since they did not ask for any information. August 2011.

    Hello,

I received a call from this number and they left a message. It sounde like "Help, help, help me" real softly.

I call eBay and reported it, they said there have been no calls made to me and I last called in July 2007. I repeat, they have NO RECORD of me calling or calls made to me.

This looks like it has been going on since 2007 or earlier. I recommend filing a report with the FTC and eBay to protect everyone.

This is a phishing call and those here that are indicating that there is nothing to worry about are, in fact, involved in the phishing ruse.

Received another call from 801-545-1800 today. They keep saying they are from eBay but I tell them to email me the information and I have never given the caller any of my eBay information. To this day, after about 1 call a month for the last year or so I still have not received any emails to explain these calls. But they continue every month.
If they are not a SCAM then they are completely useless. Do they actually pay these people to call us???  If not maybe they should fire all these completely annoying useless callers and then they could reduce our fees instead of always raising them...... Just a thought.
