I too was caught out by this on Facebook when doing an Intelligence Test. It did not explain that I would be charged £1 - 25 every time a message arrived on my phone. I am 'pay as you go'. In 2 weeks I have now lost £20 as each time I put £5 credit on my phone these texts arrive usually 4 at once thereby eating away my £5 credit. I text STOP to 81002 & got a text from freemsg saying I was unsubscribed but they still keep coming. Surely this is 'theft'. I do not want to change my number but I don't know what else to do. Help!!

Probably not, as I did the same & received the same freemsg saying I was unsubscribed but it is a lie because I am still get them every time I top-up so my phone is only good for incoming calls/texts.

I somehow got subscribed to this con but fortunately I sent STOP and it did BUT that isn't the end of the story because they can still send their texts.

I phoned O2 and they told me to phone Zamano on 0845 2252244 to make sure I was unsubscribed and they couldn't sell my number to anyone else.  I insisted that they remove my number from their system completely which they agreed to do (although they wouldn't give me a credit but I only got conned out of £3.75 so that wasn't the issue!)

Apparently my number has been blocked from any further contact by them - it's got to be worth the phone call.  The whole set up is a total con and I feel so sorry for parents whose kids get unwittingly caught by this absolute scam.

I'm extremely cautious and never say yes to these offers but somehow they managed to scam me so what chance do kids have?

    Please make the call!!

    Hi,
I did a mensa quiz online and when I clicked to find out results realised later I had subscribed to zing. They took money off my phone credit for nothing in return. I suggest we all report this to trading standards. For anybody still actively having credit stolen from their phone text stop in the first instance to 81002. There are too many con merchants like this around these days.

Don't fill in any questionaires on line and give your mobile number. I have been bombarded with text messages for Zing tones, this has cost me £18.00 this month.  Just text  STOP to 81002 and report it to your customer service dept. for your mobile phone payments and they will have it noted that you have done this, just in case you are still bombarded with texts.

They are still at it.  Somewhere I must have inadvertently ticked a box or something because I noticed that my mobile account had been debited to the tune if £11.50. I noticed that the debit related to the 81002 text number that I had kept deleting. Because I did not recognise the text number and thought it might be a scam I did not open them. I was told by O2 to text stop to the number ans so far this has worked. They apparently get the money whether you open the text or not. Underhand I reckon.

I somehow got "subscribed" to Zing....immediately tried to follow its cancellation procedure. First, my text to 81002 would not transmit, then my email to help@zingtones.co.uk bounced and then the prompt when I made my phone call to 08452251808 informed me that my mobile number was not recognised. Looked at this site: saw another number to phone (0845225224), got through to a live person who cancelled (or said it was cancelled). I asked for and received a reference number, and then I received a confirmation text which said it was cancelled, but there is nothing to say who cancelled what. It is something the service providers should assist with, by blocking automatic draws on the credits held with them

RE:  81002    I have had this problem getting 81002 calls for many months and now realise why I often have no money on my pay as you go with vodophone.  Vodophone cannot put a  block on the number but suggested phoning the company - Zamano on 08452252244 and demanding they unsubscribe me.  Will try that.

Thanks Barney - that's where they must have got my number from.  Very clever irony to use an intelligence measurement test to con people with!

The other nice touch is that 81002 costs normal text rate over and above any free allowances - nice sprinkle of salt in the wound there ....

I submitted an online IQ test for results and was sent a text advising that my mobile phone account would be debited by £4.50 per week every week until I text STOP to 81002.  But when I try to send the text it shows an error message.

Thanks.   I've called the number you advised and spoke to a live operator who assured me that the service was now cancelled and my mobile phone would be subject to no further deductions.  I guess I'll have to wait and see.  These companys seem to be totally unscrupulous and I don't trust them at all.
