Stephens and Micahels did a hard credit check against my credit i received an alert from credit karma and it came from them with this number 1-866-201-0940 that is illegal i did not authorized them to do that i don't even know who these people are.;..

Received a call from this number looking for my son. The caller had no ideal how they got my number to contact my son. I believe this id BS.

Called several times harassing rude calls.  Bill they are calling about I have already resolved. Argumentive not at all a professional.

how about everybody stop complaining and start paying the bills I feel like more of us day in and day out try to find ways out of debt instead of paying grow up pay the bills if you're not going to pay deal with the phone calls.

Hey "Responsible Adult" how about you don't troll the Internet and put down strangers? Seems like something a sniveling debt collector would do no? Not really "Responsible Adult" behavior. Do us all a favor and crawl back into the hole you came out of. I'm getting calls from these jerks too, and I'm not saying I should be magically absolved of it but medical debt is hard ok? My insurance left me stranded and I didn't qualify for any aid, so here I am sick, unemployed ( because no one hires sick people) and $2,000 plus worth of debt and these people could careless they just ask " well I mean like so how do you pay for stuff?" I don't buttface I'm being taken care of by my PARENTS!! As an adult and they can barely manage, next question " so how do you pay for your car" I don't have one b!tch don't assume you know everything, next time you want to get on here and be an ass, just go lay down in a ditch instead, that's where you belong!

Caller ID Shows "FREE CALL TOLL", but I believe it to be "Stephens Michaels Associates" (A debt collector).  They leave an automated message for someone not at this number, telling you to delete the message if you are not the person.  So I delete it!  Also: I see from other sources, there are a number of complaints against this company.

Called me at dinner time after I bought a "microwave cooking utensil" on  the internet, be warned. A woman said "hold for an important call" then a man's voice said "this call is terminated". Total waste of my time!!!

I need to report this number so they can stop calling me again. They called me at least once a day.
I'm so annoyed.

I got a call from this number today.  I went to check my email and found there was a hard inquiry on my credit report from these guys, Stephens & M.  What does that mean?  I know a company can pull your credit if they own the debt.  But I do not have any accounts that are delinquent in any way or have been sold to any agencies.  

I also inquired about a Craigslist add for a house for rent, I left my phone number but nothing else.  And then low and behold this pops up.  The add seemed a little fishy, but you can't tell till you inquire and these guys start saying like house is only available for viewing AFTER you fill out this application, which asks enough personal info to do some damage, including picture.   Has any one else found this correlation with Craig's list?  Seems to weird to be a coincidence, since I guard my personal info pretty well and never give it out address, dob, etc freely.  

So how do you explain those of us that get call from this number that have no debt, or that have all the bills paid on time?  Seems like there is an overwhelming amount of folks on here that have nothing to do with these people and have no reason to be contacted by them??  doesn't seem "reasonable" to me.

They did that to me too.  I did some research, and it is legal if they own any of the debt you hold.  But I have no debt in collections, with anyone....  so what gives?   I'm wondering what info they were able to pull from my credit report?  or does it just give them a name, address and score?

DO NOT PICK UP!!! Why would anyone answer an unknown long distance number??? And NEVER call back! If you do, you are "doomed" to repeated calls. NEVER engage them in conversation OR ask to be "removed"!  That will put you on a list of "good numbers" they can sell every other illegal caller so they can call you, too.

VOIP internet phone service allows scammers all over the world to call us using a "spoofed" (fake) caller I.D.s  If you block one number they will just "spoof" another one. Many are in a foreign country.  Just ignore them!!!  And don't use  your name on answering machine or voicemail. Just use your phone number.

Expensive call-blockers will not stop them (new "spoofed" numbers). Reporting them to the gov't. will not stop them (foreign soil).   And asking them to be removed only makes it WORSE. It's an epidemic...anyone have an answer?

People , there is simple way to deal with this kind of crap , it call a Cellphone lol. I have Samsung Galaxy II with Avast Mobile Security. There is a feature called sms and call filter  , It has features like block all unknown  numbers, you can add numbers to be blocked. The only issue I have is that if you can in call and blocked number calls, it will end the call to block the blocked number. I have comcast and they are like we can't block more than 12 numbers, etc so I ditched the house line and strictly cell.They call me from different numbers
even called using a local number. If in doubt, goggle it. or call through skype. I didnt buy a number so when I call, its just some random number that skype generates but most important ,never never get on the phone with them

Just received a call from "Amy" asking tBo speak with my daughter (who is four years old!) .I asked her what she wanted and was told she had an important message for my daughter,  could she speak with her. I told her I would not allow her to then she asked if I could give her a message. I replied I could but she is only four and will have trouble reading it.....she hung up on me. [***], call again and the police will be contacted for harassing a minor.

Keeps calling my cell phone wanting my daughters phone number saying its very important they talk to her. I will not give out any information on my daughter. They keep trying though.

Well, there is no way to stop them so you might as well have a little fun with them.  This is what you do.  If you have caller ID and they call, you should simply answer the phone like this: "US Federal Trade Commission, Agent Johnson Speaking".  

If its a recording with a number to call back.  Call them back and say "this is Agent Johnson with US Federal Trade Commission, I am returning a call made to my office from this number.  How can I assist you?"

I have been receiving calls from them ever since I set my phone up for my business 2 years ago.  Each time they ask for a different person.  Normally it is a recording and so I have to call them back and explain that this is a business line and that I don't know the person.  They are always very friendly and apologize and say that they will remove the number, which I believe that they do- but only for that specific person.  But then a month later they will call looking for a different person.

Tell them there is no need to come to your house, that you are actually parked outside of his building right now.  Follow this statement with odd nervous laughter.  Then ask if he drives the Nissan or the Toyota.

I just got a call from this number and the gal who I spoke with was obnoxious, rude and down-right belittling. After I told her that I was not the person she was looking for, she got even worse, actually blaming me for the continuous phone calls because I had not taken the time to call them back.
When I told her to take my number off their list, she actually told me to "calm down" and again told me it was my fault.
This place must be a joke.
