- PissyThis guy is committing major Fraud/Scam!!!!!! I received a collection for a Discover card from him. I have never even applied for a Discover card. I checked my credit report and it was not on there. I called Discover and the lady i spoke with verified by my social that i had NEVER had an account with them and that the acct# this guy referred to didnt exist and that it was not how discover numbers are set up. Livid!!!!! I wrote him a nasty letter accusing him of fraud and that i would report him. Two months later i got a letter back saying well since you wrote us according to the Fair debt collection act i can no longer contact you but here is a print out of the page(1 page) with only that acct on it saying it was part of my credit report.I could have made one up that looked more real. I go look on my credit report its not there. Was this suppose to intimidate me to paying. I dont think so my credit is not perfect and due to break up i got behind blah blah i have paid all my debt and now debt free. Pricks like this piss me off in this economy making money off people like this. he should be thrown in jail with a tat "saying open for bizz"on his ass. Now 6 months later i get my credit report again and find that he reported this BS on my credit 2 months after he said it was there. Idiot you cant get one by me dude!! Pathetic!!!!! I live to make examples of people like you. Its a lot of work and printing and letter writing but i have proof and it will be removed. Watch your credit closely people it is sickening people like this.

- mini replies to Charlottei had alison call me last week from steve and michael agency at my home phone..i let her know the person they are looking for doesnt live here and to remove my number, just to get another phone call today from jordon.i told them i was the person he asked for and he didnt reverse verify who i really was. jordan gave my all the collection information ie; the amount, the date and the creditor. i asked to speak with his manager who came on line as laurie the floor manager. i explained what he revealed to me without reverse verify. i explained to her that i work for large bank in collections and by law we have to reverse verify before giving info. all she had to say is that her recording of my conversation has me saying that i was the person they were looking for, although there is no message stating the call can be recorded for collection purposes; i know i perturbed her especially when she asked for an updated number for the person they trying to contact, i said sure as long as i got her home and cell number as well (old sienfield scene). anyway these people are scheming there way to collect debts which in our case it is 300.00 medical bill.....PALEEEEEZE not worth my time

- Casper replies to BrianLike Natedagreat, they call OFTEN, asking for people I do not know, nor have even heard of, most with Hispanic names. They are not looking for me, or anyone I know, yet they call and wake me twice a week, even after I politely ask them NOT to call! So yes, I would be more than upset with them for calling, when I have NOTHING to do with what they are looking for. Now, how legel, and ethical, is THAT, Brian?
Casper - Takko| 1 replyRefused to elaborate when I asked WHO was calling except to give me the name of the company. I hung up after the caller's refusal.

Then she asked me if I knew how to get a hold of him! I was like B**** do you not hear me? so I said to remove this #$. She pissed me off so I called back and asked for a spvr and got "David Droscoll" and what a little [***] he was. He was sayiong how dare I call him and be rude and kept asking for a spvr then he gave me his name and was beig very condescening asking me if I needed him to spell it. Finally I got "Raphael" who said my # was removed and that this debtors account got to them on 8/11/11 and they only made one call. I said listen your people need customer serive trainig and to please remove my #. Complete [***] they are!

- Watch outStephens and Michaels is a debt collection agency. They use very nasty tactics such as researching you and your neighbors, friends, etc. Look up thier license - it is in Alaska. What is that about?

http://www.bbb.org/concord/business-reviews/c ... ile-a-complaint - Arthur replies to LeilaYES!! - They purchase very old debts where the statute of limitation ran out and use harassment and threats to get you to give them money. Do not pay them anything and don't give your checking account info over the phone.
- GinYeah these pricks started calling a week ago. Finally got annoyed and called them back. This collector couldn't tell me anything about the supposed debt other then the amount and the date. So I tell the collector "I'm not paying for something I have no idea is true" he explains that this information is accurate according the US Credit Bureau ....Later he offers me a deal. According to him if I do not request an "item verification" I can pay less then what the debt is. That just didn't sound right, why would I get penalized because I want to know what it is that I supposedly purchased. Anyhow, I told him the I was going to check my financial statements to see I can verify this debt. Then the guy tells me to stop stalling and how urgent it is to resolve this debt yada yada...The more he spoke the more I realized this was not a company that would accomodate.

- Fed UpHere's the compnies website:
http://www.smacollects.com/
There's a contact link there as well as other information.
Although the date has already passed, it might be good idea to see where they plan to "appear" next.
The I would do a couple of things:
1) Attend the conference as a potential client. Gather all the intel you can about the company. Get business cards, etc. Thes of course will have their true names and contact numbers on them.
In many cases, it will be easy to track their home and cell numbers with this information.
2) Once you've gathered all the intel you need, break out the
documentation!
Law suits, Federal complaints, etc, and any judgments and sentenses available.
Start passsing these out to the "potential clients."
As well, if there's good, clear lawfully obtained audio of some of their calls, find a way to either hand them out (mini disc/dvd with the "package" of suit info maybe?) or play them for the group.
*NOTE* This will likely result in your removal from the conference, but likely not before you get your point across!
Most companies won't assume the liability of associating themselves with a company who comes across "sleezy" or dances the line on illegality.
If S & M buy the debt from a company, that's one thing.
If the company hires them to collect on their behalf, that's quite another.
The company may then share in vicarious liability for S & M's actions.
I'd do this at every conference and public appearance I could identify where they plan to appear.
Don't form a "group" to do it. S & M (how appropriately nicknamed huh?) could get an injunction against you as a group, preventing future actions.
If it's done individually, they'd have to get an injunction against each individual.....LOL- Good luck!
If nothing else, it'll keep the staff busy doing paperwork for months!- Caller: Steven & Michaels collections

- Melissa R PottsMy parents got a phone call saying they were Stevens and Michaels Collection Agency. She tried to get any information but they wouldn't give it to her. When she looked it up on the internet and found this she called them back told them she had looked it up and contacted a lawyer and said they would track them down if they called again as they knew it to be a fraud. The guy asked "What is a fraud?" lol He kept trying to talk and my mother just talked over him and told him do not call this number again. They have caller ID as he repeated my mother's phone number to her. She just repeatedly said do not call this number again and hung up.
