Received a message on my answering machine on Tuesday, December 8, 2010, at 12:40pm HST, from Christina Barbo (sp?) of Stevens & Michaels Associates. She didn't say who the message was for. She just mentioned that she had an important matter to discuss, and that I should call ASAP, 1-866-201-0940. This is the first time they have contacted me. I have not received any postal mail from them.

Same thing is happening to us. They are just waisting their time, because we already have a pay plan with the hospital where my husband did some tests and the insurance company did not cover the whole bill. After reading your post, I will answer the phone and let them know we have an arrangement with the hospital. Thank you.

stevens and michaels associates located an old posted resume on line and called my personal references looking for me to discuss a 6 yr old small  ($200) disputed debt.

SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM TO ME..

they keep calling me trying to get ahold of "jessica" whoever that is. i have answered the phone once and they said they would take me off the call list. and i just called them back because i recieved another call and they said they would take me off off the list again? not sure whats going on

i see they just did a hard inquiry on my credit.  i know of no debts that are unpaid.

Received a voice recorded message from Stephens & Michaels Asso's who were claiming to be debt collectors.  Seemed like it was just another scam to report to the Federal Trade Commission.

I've had 2 calls from these guys.  I didn't bother to call the 800 number they left.  If it was legit and important a real person would call, not a recording. These guys are scammers.  I'd like to know where they got my name and phone number.  That is who I would like to talk to.  No wonder the FBI, FCC and FTC are looking for them.

We should file a class action suit against these guys.

i made the mistake of panicking and paying these people once because i couldn't find the proof i needed.If I paid them it was supposed to clear out my debt.They waited 3 months and started calling again.calls every few days and leaves a message.

I did not answer. I don't answer anything not local and unknown. But I always check this website. Thanks to whoever has set it up. It is a godsend!!! And I appreciate very much. These jerks buy "packages" of old, old loans /bills and if they can get a dime, they've got a dime. These bills have been paid!!!! Either insurance or by being written off. The company you may have owed was paid (years ago??). Screw them. Don't worry about. Call FTC or ignore altogether by screening caller ID or buy a phone that blocks numbers if they get too annoying.

Feb. 1, 2010.  It's too bad real jobs these days are ones that pay to scam people.  These dumb-@$$e$ call very early in the morning as if I'm going to give them personal information after waking me up.

TIP:  If you turn off the call reminder on your cell phones, you can still have your family and friends send text messages to you.  They can do it from an instant messenger like AIM during your off hours.

Don't let this kind of crap get to you.  Just get a good night's sleep and laugh about it later.

As a person who's done collections for about 15yrs, it sounds like most of you are upset because because some one is re-calling you on bills you have a moral obligation too pay.  Some seem to believe just because the statute of limitations has past that no one is allowd to call you, which is incorrect.  All that means is they can't take you too court.   With that said, I do believe that everyone has rights with both federal & state laws, and all companies should up hold those laws.  Always remember caaling time is between the time of 8am & 9pm your time.. also some states don't alow collectors to leave their name on a machine, this is for those who are upset with no name left on the machine, but also fedetal law say a third part collector must leave what we call the mini meranda on the machine when leaving a message, which is the saying of (this in a attemp to collect a debt and anu info recieved may used to collect the debt) but some states call that third party discloser in state courts, because of that no messages are ever left on the machine, it's kind of a catch 22 with companies, leave the mini marand and get sued thru the state courts, don't, and you get sued thru federal court.  I hope this has been a little help for some of you..Oh remeber, always talked to a collector in a proffesional manner, meanning don't yell, dont screem and/or use profanity..REMEBER THE PHRASE... YOU CAN CATCH MORE FLIES WITH HONEY THAN YOU CAN WITH VINGER... Same goes with making settlements/deals

Call but wont leave a message. I read the comments above. Thanks you all I thought it was a scam- I didn't think I had any bills out there, but you never know maybe a dr bill got by me.

It seems they are doing Hard Inquiries on people whose debts they are looking into buying, not debt they actually own. It might be possible to put together a class-action against these guys.

I also got a call from this number. I called it back 2 times and got different people. They say they are trying to collect a debt from Verizon Wireless that I paid back in 2006. They say they are working for Stevens and Michaels. They tried to get $175 from me. I told them no and that this debt is not on my credit. Beware. I have a feeling they are running a scam. The first thing they asked was my name and then said how did I want to pay over the phone. Use caution. Seems like a scam since I do not have debts and I have a 792 credit score

Calls early every day or two and on Sundays. Leaves a message for some one else and hangs up..  After they wake me up. I called the number and told them not to call again. The # is to a steven and michael & associtates.
