By the way I had been going to checksmart for the last two years on and off for payroll advances, just paid one that I got out like 2 weeks ago, it was paid in full, I needed to get a payday advance on 5-19-2008, mind you I was just there 2 weeks ago, The girl is on the phone with Corporate and tells me that I can't get a payday advance because my name didn't come up on the social security number someone else's did, I said ok who would that be much to my surprise they said my ex husbands name. I am like ok, what's that got to do with me, they are like we're sorry you have to talk to corporate so I contacted them and got no help from a woman named ELSA, I explained to her I was turned down for an advance because of a discrepancy with my social security number and I wanted to know what was going on or I would be contacting my attorney, she then started laughing at me and stating that I was poor, which is the reason I was getting an advance in the first place and that she knew I couldn't afford an attorney. I asked for her supervisor many times and she hung up on my like twice, I called, every time I did the receptionist would transfer me to Elsa, it was a horrible experience, no one would help me find out what was going on with this at all. Finally after I went some where else and got a payroll advance and didn't have any problems, I figured I would call the checksmart location where I had gone earlier finally the store manager spoke with me and she was nice enough to look up the information and help me figure out what was wrong with it and comes to find out it was their fault, my ex wrote a check to me for something, I cashed it and well the check bounced from his account---> we were separated at the time. But some how two years later it gets tacked on to my account and they want me to pay. I don't think so. But I have written a letter to the president of checksmart his name is James Frauenberg he is at the 7001 post rd location. So we'll see what happens I am sure he is just as rude.

they had called me and called me and when i had told them that i had lost my job cuz health reasons they say well you wrote the check to them for pay day loan so i was issuing bad checks ..when i wasnt.i was working at the  time.and know they threaten me with warrant for my arrest and going to jail?i cant go to jail i have kids.im in arizona..what do i do

How can they repossess your vehicle when this is an unsecured loan.  Unsecured loans will screw up your credit but there is no law that makes you repay them.  Thesed people will try to threaten you with lies about legal actions. They can not do anything to you but irritate you.  If you can change your number or pay them.  Those are your only recourses.  Collection agency's cannot contact you this way if you send them a Cease and Desist order.  If Checksmart is your original creditor they have certain rights but harassment isnt one of them.

Mr. Stapleton calling from BCCI Recovery.  I get called at my work phone.  Since I don't answer external calls for work and we have caller ID, I just don't answer them.

They can't arrest you. In fact they can't even tell you that unless they can actually do it, they are breaking the law. I have a friend that used the work at the "corporate office", she said all they will do is take you to night court and set up payment arrangements. When they call again, tell them to take you to court. They won't arrest you, and they won't garnish your wages unless you don't show up to court. The night court thing is like a mediation, to come to an agreemant, to repay the loan.

I have recieved this number 20-30 times a day at my work. when I told them that my boss was getting upset and would be filing harrasment charges on them, the guy I talked to Ryan Knight said to tell my boss that I wrote a bad check and thats why I am getting these calls. then I went on to explain that I would be making a payment in 2 weeks and he told me that they couldn't wait two more weeks. he yelled at me so I hung up on him and called back and they gave me back to ryan. so I asked his name and he spelled it for me. now they are calling my home and work again. if anyone knows who I can report this abuse to let me know. then when I do not answer their phone calls they leave a message at my work saying not to keep avoiding them. they are not very nice and would like to find help.

I also spoke with Andrea who I found out was based out of Phoenix, AZ but she told me she was in Ohio, she was on her personal cell phone yelling at what she said was her husband of 10 yrs she also began to put me down say she would get me fired and  that  she was going to investigate my bank account!! she is nuts and should be in jail for the way she talks to ppl. Why does she have a job!!! I am going to the Attorney General and the BBB/ I CAN NOT TRUST ANYONE AT THIS COMPANY!!!

Check Smart's corporate office has called me on multiple occasions about a friend who used our name as a reference.  We have not talked to this friend in almost 2 years, and have no way of getting hold of them.  We, like check smart, do not have this friend's phone new phone number.  They accused me of lying and yelled at me to give them the phone number.

Wow--I am blown away. I know my brother has done pay day advances and been irresponsible with it--so he has been harassed plenty--I've even gotten calls because he's listed me as a family reference without my knowledge! I've never taken money out or anything--but I just got contacted by their corporate office for a possible job opportunity. I would NEVER been a collector--I don't care how much outbound calling experience I have, etc..I could never be mean to people like that--we all go through hard times, I could never do it. So now I'm thinking I probably won't be calling them back to find out about these opportunities! And SURPRISE--she NEVER said her name..just gave an extension.

I've been getting calls for about a week from this #- and they are asking for a guy I never heard of. How do I convince them some guy made up my phone# off the top of his head and gave it to them? So YES, they do call people who do not owe them money. Never even heard of this place and never had the need to borrow $ from anyone. Of course they don't believe me.

These people are 1st party collections they can pretty much say what they want to who they want and call how ever many times they want as long as no one answers or they don’t leave a message. They can go by alias names as well so you probably will never get there real names they don’t want pissed off people finding them at home. If you answer the phone and talk to them even if nothing is solved they can’t call you back for 24 hours. I have had these people calling all day. At home and work. I have told them many times I wanted to pay my debt but I had over $1000 stolen out of my bank account and until I got that money back I wasn’t going to be able to afford to pay them. They have threatened to come to my work and take me to jail for writing a bad check. I know they can’t and wont waste there time. Just let it go to third party and work out the arrangements with them. 3rd party collections have more rules and regulations to fallow and work out payment plans.

I will be making a visit to her and to the little h.o.m.o that called me the other day. i dont have a loan through them so my a.s.s. whoopin will be justified for sure!

I dont know who this company thinks they are, however they must follow the same guidelines when collecting as any other company. This is the law and if they dont know it they might want to get a manual from the FCC. And to tell someone they can not claim bankruptcy of course you can claim bankruptcy just as you can on any debt owed. Come on what company is going to encourage you to do so that is why they are giving fale information. I think it is about time that some one steps up to the plate and takes legal action. You may do so please keep all of your phone records and start recording them. If possible dont answer the phone because if they are going to threaten you when you answer they will do so when you let it go to a voicemail the more proof that you have that they broke the law the better off you are. Dont be affraid to stand your grounds or take action just because you defaulted on a loan. Think about it if they have to hide behind a bogas name instead of telling you what check chashing company they are calling from they have know idea of the law.

People please wake up as a collector regardless if you are a first part or a third party collector under the fair collection laws know one can call and haras you or threaten you. Please stop thinking that someone has the right to do so file a complaint against the company. And who is ever writting these comments saying that they have the right to call you as many times as they want and haras or threaten you either works for the check loan company or the company that is harasing people. But again everyone has to follow the same rules when collecting money dont let some one bully you just because you owe them money.

It's Checksmart.  They've made SOOOO much money in fees off of me.  I wish I'd never gotten a payday loan.  I never will again.  Those losers are nasty and call you poor because they feel bad that they're poor, too.  They work for Checksmart, making like $9/hour.  This is the only time in their life they've had any power and it makes them high.  Feel sorry for them.

Dan from Checksmart.  Called me a scared little 2 year old.  I called them to let them know in Oct that I couldn't pay and needed an extension.  It was TOO LATE they said, so I stopped payment on the check.  I offered to make payments and was told no.  So.......I haven't paid them anything.  I received a message the other day that they would be turning me over to the proper authorities,,,,,,and that I was hiding like a scared 2 year old.  WTF???  Who are the proper authorities in the state of ohio??  What can they do to me? The amount is under $500??

The people working in corporate are idiots.  My husband paid off a loan in december.  For some reason(?!?!)...corporate never received this information and has been calling constantly.  The store has it as paid, corporate doesn't.  IT's a vicious circle...they must have morons working there.  I feel like taking some type of legal action against them.  IT's pure harassment and is causing many problems
