Had that happening for the first time tonight... two different numbers AND they try calling you.
I messaged stop and got confirmation messages that there was no active services anymore.
    Hopefully that should do it.

I don't know how these ******* got my number, but I'm now in a draw with JuicyWin.com to win an iphone.  Yeah right.  And obviously, having been through all the bunf on the website, the only way to stop them texting (or try to) is to text them, at some exorbitant fee per text.

In any cases like this you should report the incident to Phone Pay Plus (who regulate premium rate phone services such as SMS) and you want option 2 I believe for SMS messages (even though the recorded menu says numbers starting 07, this also includes short sms codes)

In the case of 88818 - There is already a case ready to go to tribunal regarding this company and all and any additional evidence is still welcome and your case will be added to the rather long list of complaints.

The telephone number for Phone Pay Plus is: 0800 500212 (But please verify with your own mobile operator as some even put client complaints forward themselves.)

What I forgot to add is they will want you to quote at least one message which has been sent to you as part of the evidence chain, so don't delete such messages until after you have complained.

Also, if you think that answering "YES" plus some code will give you a chance to win something, it most probably does not, it only means they can say you agreed to receive their messages, which is hard to fight as they'll say you already were sent a text explaining how much this would cost you.

The best advice is not to reply at all (even with STOP) and just complain. However, do ensure you call your mobile phone company customer services and complain first and ask them if this advice is something they agree with.

I received four texts from 88818 today and worked out they cost me £1 each - if the company keep that up that'll be £120 at the end of a month. I do enter a lot of competitions so guess someone's got hold of my numberthrough one of them. Will try texting STOP to them, but how much will that cost me?

Thanks for the advice. Have sent a STOP text to 88818 and got a message back to say I have opted out of their weekly draw. It is JuicyWin. Also sent STOP to 61177 and they sent a message back to say I have opted out of all future marketing broadcasts. Looks like it's only cost me 10p a text to do that. Let's hope that stops them, and I'll have to be more careful entering competitions in future!

Perhaps you should have read my advice above about how to report them because the only way you'll get a refund is if the regulator force them to repay and those repayments will only go to those in the filed complaint (after all, if you don't let the regulator know you have been stung by them, how are they going to know you need compensating?)

Text 'STOP' - this definitely worked for me.  However, if you don't get a text back confirming they have stopped the texts call your mobile provider and they will deactivate the texts and bar the number.

The texts are sent on behalf of juicywin.com by a company called switchfire (www.switchfire.com).  You can complain and request a refund (probably unsuccessfully, but worth a go) by calling Switchfire on 0845 869 7559.
