Very Upset! replies to ed suck it
    Greetings!

I have been divorced for nearly two years and separated for four years, I am engaged to get married.  Somehow this Law Firm got my Fiance's, parents phone number looking for my ex-husband.  My ex-husband does not even know my Fiance's parents, or their phone number and name (they live 6 hours away).  How would a Law Firm that is classified as a "Debt Collector" be able to obtain this personal information and be allowed to contact them?  This is a violation of my privacy and will not be tolerated.  Is this legal and how can I find out when, where and how they got this information?

Ed Overcash is the name of the company

Rex Ball is the name of the caller

864-233-5800 ext. 140 is the phone number

Please provide me with information.  I am now in fear that my phones are tapped or someone is digging in my personal information.

All I can say is I have a great life and anyone who works for them does not. They must have a hard time sleeping at night because deep in their hearts they know they are uneducated troglodyte (oh, don't know that word? Get an education!) Most people have circumstances and made a mistake getting into debt, that does not give you the right to be rude, obnoxious and abusive. I choose to let it go and move on, I'll pay eventually but I know that Karma's a [***] and thank god I can sleep at night!!!!

You don't legally have the right to employ whatever methods necessary in order to collect a debt! Your office called my husband yesterday and basically told him he was a piece of [***] because his business has dropped by 40% and we can't afford to pay our debt. We are trying to work out payment arrangements with our creditors but your office was totally unwilling to make any concessions or try to work with us. I'm going to try one more time to work with you all (but of course now you won't answer your phone) and if this doesn't work, I'm going to tell you to blow smoke out of a certain body part. My advice to anyone dealing with a creditor that is harassing, belittling and threatening is to ask for their address and send them a cease and desist letter. If the behavior doesn't stop file a complaint with the department of consumer affairs!

Confused replies to An annoyed Daughter
I am in a similiar situation. I acknowledge I have the debt, unfortunately I fell on hard times and could not pay GEMB. The acct then accrued large amounts of interest so Im in an even worst position. When I called GEMB I was told the account was sold to Square Two Financial, not Ed Overcash, so it makes me a little skeptical about paying Ed anything (especially after reading all these comments)! I'm not sure if the two companies are the same I will however be investigating further to be sure I make the payments to the right collector!

I too have been repeatly called by "represenatives" of Ed Overcash. I have a credit rating of perfect
and do not owe a cent that is not up to date. It seems they are looking for someone with the same name but different social security number. I have told them I am not the person they want yet they still call. It is not legal for them to call more then once yet they still call. What a sorry bunch of losers. I
did take the liberty of calling the 888 number and sent a few emails, maybe it will get their attention
and cost them a little for phone calls.

I tried and they would not make an arrangement with me and they were very rude.  They pressured me into setting up a payment and I gave them my info like an idiot and then called to tell them that I would not have it and this manager - JOSH - was very rude and hung up on me!  I called back and told him that was very rude for him to treat people that way.  He told me good luck and I better have the money to make the check good.....Very stressed right now.  I don't know what to do and I want to make my debt good but I can't do it all at one time and I tried to explain that and he was still very rude to me.

There was never any indicator on my Caller ID, only a message on my answering machine asking me to "call the Law Office of Ed Overcash today".  Didn't know anything of this site or anyone receiving such calls, else I'd not have called them back; I've never had debt & don't need such harassment.  I could only leave a message with "Lisa's" ans. machine at ext. 162. (now wish I hadn't, but I'll hope they won't call again -- you can't get blood from a turnip!)

Recent harassing calls for state medical insurance last week literally put me into the hospital; I'm still recovering now.  From now on I'll never answer calls without a NAME on my Caller ID (not just a number)!

    Medically unable to work
My daughter called the other night to tell me, her mother in law called her and said she had gotten a call From these people and they told her about me being behind on my cc's. I have been working with a debt management co since July 2010. I have told these people to call them but it falls on deaf ears. They like to harass. But I will tell you since I confronted them about what the FTC says. They have not called me back. The embarrassment of them calling my daughters mother in law was enough to fuel my fire. I don't care now if it ever gets paid.

You are crazy! Have you heard of The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act? I am a PROFESSIONAL collector and your post is completely against the law. Brenda, it is against the law for a collector to contact your family members and neighbors and share your PERSONAL credit information. I hope you contact an attorney regarding these issues. It is also against the law for them to HARASS you.

I bought a house and soon after I got my new telephone number collection calls for the previous owners began and I've experienced the same kind of ignorant callers. I wish something could be done about this industry.

    ja9306@aol.com replies to Helping out
Done.  I not only filed official complaints with the SC Bar Association, but also with the Federal Trade Commision, the Better Business Bureau, the SC Attorney General's Office, and have contacted a lawyer.   I advise everyone else to do the same.

There are Collection Agencies out there that follow the law.  Then there are those out there that violate the law (Fair Debt Collections Act) by using scare tactics, threats, abusive language, etc. to intimidate people.  They have made it easy for me, as I now will not worry about whether the lawsuit is real, fake, or just intimidation tactics.  My lawyer tells me that they lost all chances of collecting from me the minute they chose to violate the law.  He also told me that this company has had so many complaints in the last year, we may be able to file a class action lawsuit against them.  If interested, please contact me at ja9306@aol.com

You are incredibly insensitive to what people are suffering through in this economy.  IF i knew your name I would call and report you.  You have NO right to say anyone's name on this site pertaining to personal information, and I'm appalled at your behavior as a professional.  Your JOB is just that and you SHOULD NOT meddle in other people's personal affairs.  So what if they can't pay a credit card bill when your company is most likeley receiving government bail-outs to pay yours.  You really need to do some research on the current conditions of middle class americans before you throw stones.  Your probably not paying your bills on time... Why else get so personal.  Its a paycheck not a Character, atleast I HOPE! You need some therapy and enlightenment. Have a nice day.

Harassed by Overcash replies to ME
    Dear "Me",
Bad grammar, horrid SCREAMING, inaccurate punctuation, misspelled words- what exactly does ADICE mean?

Please, do us all a favor, go back to school, and stop trying to defend and represent a firm that obviously has a bad reputation.  Go work on yourself, and quit picking on others. After you take care of your faults, go get a real job.
