Malicious or abusive phone calls are a criminal offence, under section 43 of the Telecommunications Act, 1984,. Alternatively, The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 covers many forms of harassment involving persistent contact that causes distress. For more info, report the problem to your phone service provider. They won't want their customers unhappy, after all, and will stand by you until the problem has been sorted.

Here is a formal standard letter of complaint to file with the ministry:

"Mr.David" keeps calling our place looking for my Fiance and has been leaving intimidating messages with referal numbers and the phone number to call back. He just left another one today saying that a lawsuit has been filed and that my Fiance will be subpoenaed to court by a bailiff, yet he has never received any documentation saying that he owed anyone money and he doesnt state on the messages who this in regards to. Should we be worried or has anyone got solid proof that this is in fact a scam???? The phone number he leaves as a call back number is 905-474-3535.

Well, I wish I could help by stating how these people directly affected me, but after reading the comments on this site and several others, I am too nervous to even call them now. So what I did was email them very professionally, requested they not call my employer as I just went back there and did not want to get in trouble. I asked them to reply to my email about the file in question, and also made a point stating that I am totally willing to resolve the debt that is owing. At least this way , should there be authorities coming to my door to charge me, I can get my lawyer to pull up my email as evidence that I am willing to pay and did not ignore them. I pray to god this works and nobody else shows up at my door.

The 'legal beagles' in this aggressive collection agency, recite their company name so quickly that it is almost impossible to decipher.   I have seen many errors of interpretation in individual reports from this group.   Here is the company info from a Canada 411 search:

The problem here is that technically they are not a collection agency - they are a 'law office'  very grey area....

i recieved a call last week from a mr.david, letting me know about a law suit and fraud charges if i didnt come up with 3000 dollars by the next day at 11am
i know the amount i know to be under 1000 dollars, when i asked him how come it was so much he threatened to hang up the phone if i was going to be rude with him and that he was trying to help me avoid being charged,
i then talked to some family friends who told me that there is no way that i could be charged with criminal fraud seeing as how i had already made a payment towards it
the next day at 1105 mr david called back and askd why i didnt call him, i then asked him if i was able to pay in trident layers at which point he promptly hung up the phone

A CALL CAME TO MY HOME ON MARCH 08-2010 I WAS NOT AT HOME AT THE TIME HOWEVER THE CALLER LEFT A MESSAGE FOR,  ME TO CALL LAW OFFICE OF  PAUL COOPERSTEIN  AND ASSOCIATES ATTENTION MR KLASEN. CASE #475517  I CHECKED THE LAW FIRMS ON THE WEB  AND NONE EXISTED THIS IS WHEN I FOUND THIS SCAM MY MOM TOOK THE CALL BUT THE CALLER WOULD NOT GIVE HER ANY INFO HE ONLY SAID IT WAS URGENT

I too just received a phone call telling me that I owe a PDL which I do. However like many others I was too laid off, working now, trying to catch my breath to get this dept payed off. I was a little scared about the phone call that I received, stating that if I don't pay I will be chargd with fraud, and that a law man will be coming to my door. I don't recall who I was talking to, however I did a reverse look up on GOOGLE and the company name did come up as Paul Kupferstein & Associates, I did call and the person answered "Law Firm" (weird). I am happy that I found this site, and was able to relate to many others about the same situation. I will call the PDL company and make arrangements to pay the loan. Please people, do not pay this so called LAW FIRM. Do some reasearch.

The 'law firm' is retained by the pay day loan companies that you all owe money to!  The pay day loan companies don't want to hear from you now - you already had your chance to pay them back and you didn't.  The scammers are all of you that took our pay day loans and didn't pay them back - now how dare someone call you on it!
Grow up!  I could give a rats ass if you pay anyone back, but don't note on this stupid site that someone contacted you because you owe a debt - welcome to the real world!

I received a call today from the number 905-474-3535. Said the same thing that he was a sargent from the law office of Paul Cooper Law office. When I called, they said it was called the "The Law Office" They are not a law firm but a collection agency. He did sound very intemidating, however just to give you heads up..if they give a reference number that is only 6 digits...and no Gov letters. It's not legit.. Government and Police as well as Law office have to start their entire name..Not Mr. Seargent.

I received a call today from this number saying he was my sons lawyer and wasn't able to get a hold of him so tried my number as I was left as the contact.  I only said that I would let my son know that he had called.  I was uncomfortable with the call and googled the number.  I couldn't figure out (a) why my son required a lawyer and especially one that was so far away from where he lives.  Thank you to everyone who posted about their calls.

they will send someone from the loan store to your house just happened to me an i would like to kno if this is allowed

Received a call from Mr. Sergant last night advising me that he was going to press charges against me apparently for ID theft, that I had borrowed money with a different name. He was going to call my references with a summons to court for the approximately $300.00 that I supposedly owe them which is now over $ 900.00 with interest and if not paid by noon today additional $3000.00 in legal fees would be due. Asking me do I have a lawyer? I have been in touch with Service Nova Scotia and will have them to handle this.
