Hi, also in Ireland - they phone me occasionally but have caller display so I just dont bother answering anymore.  It goes to voicemail - naturally they dont leave a message, but it still costs them a call and it saves me the bother of dealing with them.  The first time I did answer they pulled the virus scam.  Luckily I'm smart enough to know better and just told them to f**k off that I knew it was a scam.  
They also phoned my parents and wanted them to switch on the PC while on the phone.  My parents still have dial up so they cant even do that.  When my mother explained, the guy on the phone got really irate and then hung up.
Are there really people who fall for this that it makes it worth their while? :(

sinead reset your computer to five or six days before the phone call. i got caught too. eircom will be able to guide ya through it.

I have a call at 10:34 am today,from the same number - 00253820308. I didn't pick up the phone.it rings 4 times,than it stopped.This is the fourth time they called me in one week with these numbers - 00501 twice,and 0016076259911- and today with the number above.

Ik ben vorige week ook gebeld door dit nummer maar was niet thuis. Ze blijven dus bezig met bellen.

Nonsense naturally. Just somebody who wants entrance to my system. There is no DOS service centre in the middle of nowhere.

Just had a call from this number, when i answered the call in dutch it was aborted immediately.

I had the same. But I wasn't able to answer. So I thought it was a familymember that tried to call us. I called back but there was this lady speaking in French. So I hung up. Then I started a search on Google and found this. I'm happy I didn't get them on the phone. And now I'm warned. Thanks!!

When my mum answered the phone, she passed it on to me, since the lady on the phone spoke poor english (indian accent) and my mum did not understand what she was saying about her computer. When the lady told me there was a problem with our computer software, I told her I would let my own (? haha, don't have one) computer programmer take a look. Before I hung up, I said goodbye and she then asked if she could be my friend?! Very weird!!

I was told by alleged senior programming engineers working for windows that my computer had been infected by some kind of malware. The two people I talked to spoke in very poor Indian English. The two person's last names: Thomas and Peterson

Same story for me. I let the lady -who seemed African to me- tell all her story After a few minutes she asked me what I saw on my computer and I said  "nothing at all, cause I didn't do anything on my pc! Give me your telephonenumber, then I call you back". She didnt do this of course and hung up immediately!
This lady told me she worked for Microsoft and that she was calling from America. I searched the number and it appears to come from Djibouti in Africa. What can we do to stop these 'fraudeurs' ?

Vanmiddag kreeg ik een telefoontje van een Engels sprekende mevroew met een Aziatisch accent.Ze werkte bij Microsoft en deelde mij mede dat er via internet een virus in mijn pc zit dat langzaam alle gegevens opeet en dat mijn pc binnenkort zal crashen. Ze vroeg of ik gelijk mijn pc wou opstarten om het probleem te verhelpen. Dit heb ik niet gedaan, omdat ik het niet vertrouwde.
Toen werd het telefoongesprek gelijk verbroken.
Dit wil ik jullie meedelen.

We acted as if we did not understand, and hang up.

I got phoned by this number with almost the same story, that our home network was sending a signal to microsoft(my computer sends reports sometimes when it crashes so it seemed legit) so I followed his instructions to a website www.savemycomputer.com, I didn't trust it completely so I used my old computer but then I had to download something so I shut everything down and hung up. I searched the number on google and came here, but could it have done any harm just to take a look on that website or might opening that website have done damage already?

These people want remote access to your computer and, if they get it, they can install spyware/malware to steal personal information, bank details, passwords etc.  If you old computer had only out of date info on it, you should be ok.  If it had any passwords or other personal data on it which you still use, it might be an idea to get it checked out by a local pc shop.

Ze had het over een virus en kon wel even laten zien hoe je dit kon voorkomen. Er werd gevraagd verschillende toetsen Windows en Alt in te drukken, uiteraard niet gedaan!
Haar naam en nummer gevraagd en gevraagd haar terug te mogen bellen. Uiteendelijk werd de verbinding verbroken. Toevallig gisteren wel een virus gehad op de computer....

Hier ook hetzelfde gehad vandaag. Mevrouw, slecht sprekend Engels met zwaar Aziatisch accent, belt van Microsoft. Vertelde mij ook dat er vanalles mis zou zijn met mijn computer. Geloofde er meteen al niks van, aangezien iemand van Microsoft niet zo'n slecht Engels kan spreken. Ben er dus verder ook niet op in gegaan. Ze probeerde me wel aan de lijn te houden, maar heb gewoon opgehangen. Ook al vaker gebeld door "onbekend" nummer, dan pak je op en is er niemand... Zelfde?!
