beware of these phonecalls I had one at lunchtime on my work  mobile and mhy neighbour had one this evening asking for personal details of someone we know and also where he now lived.  Have reported this to the police.  they told me they were DVSL and I asked them to spell it out and they told my neighbour they were DHL and wanted to deliver a parcel.  Watch out whoever you are because someone will catch up with you one day

I recieved a call but didn't answer it, i always check numbers out now first. Whilst i was checking the number my neighbour recieved a call from them asking about me, they mentioned my name and address. No doubt if i'd answered my call they would have asked me about her. They told her they got her name and address from the electoral roll, they can't use that with me because i'm not currently on it.

Had another call at 15.29 today. When I asked where she was ringing from, she said DVLS. They started by saying they had a parcel for my neighbour and I told them I did not live near them. The woman obvioulsy very put out with how abrupt I was - I then asked how she had got my number and she responded she had a contact at vodafone. I did ring the number back and it went straight to an answering machine for a Travel Advisory company (I think).

When I rang Vodafone to report this, they were very defensive and said no one has access to my account. They said it must have been a lucky guess.

It would be interesting to find out if anyone has had similar issues.

Just had a call from them saying they had got a mail item for my neighbour and they wanted to make sure he still lived there.  I was taken aback and confirmed he did, but now thinking I should have said nothing.  Now concerned I have divulged information I shouldn't.

Just had a phone call from a company named  DVSL asking me to confirm information about a neighbour. I took their phone number and told them I would pass the information on, they took me by surprise. I checked them on your site & can see it was a scam. The number they used was 01252576376

Just got a call from these on my mobile.
Didn't answer as I didn't recognise the number.
It went to my voicemail and they obviously had a recorded message on their end as when I checked my voicemail only half of the message was on it (the first half must have been playing while my answering service was speaking).

This pm had missed calls on BOTH my mobile and landline numbers within 3 minutes of each other. My other half called them back tonight and asked what they wanted. The flustered guy at the end came up with some speil about a letter for my neighbours (gave her the neighbours name). We asked how they managed to get our two ex-directory, TPS registered numbers and they said something about getting it from BT. Didn't seem so cocky when her indoors said she was going to report them to both OFCOM and the Information Commissioner for breach of the Data Protection Act and the Telecommunications Act..... We've already had Debt Collectors banging on the door looking for these neighbours, so it's clearly linked. Shame on them for their underhand and illegal tactics.

Just had a call from 01252576376 asking do I have a forwarding address for someone who used to live down the road from me, then asking if the house is still owned by my Landlord (name given).  Said they had a parcel to deliver, which is funny as the house in question has been derelict for at least the last 3 years.

Had a call from DVSL (data verification ? Ltd) asking if we lived at this address and was our neighbour Mr x as they had a parcel for him. Refused to give them information as they could be anyone. Did 1471 and found the no. 01252 576376 and called them back and gave them an earbashing. They got our address and no. from the electoral roll, BT phone book and any other organisations that may hold our no. Bunch of lying scamming scumbags and I wouldn't wish them on my neigbours.

    anon but wrong
I've had debt collectors harassing me for five years for a debt not in my name for a debt I know nothing about and a debt I have no idea who it is for.

This has predominantly been illegal in their methods.

I've started fighting fire with fire. I now put the debt collector through to their directors personal mobile number (please don't ask how). Calling their managers and the court officer s directly and having them note the harassment.

Recently I received A LETTER WITH WHAT FELT LIKE A COIN INSIDE SENT TO THIS MADE UP DEBTOR.Watch out for this. I put it back in postbox marked "not known here and coins inside". There was no return address but I recognised the writing. It was the third agent to chase this made up debtor.

Watch out for this. I think sending money in the form of a coin to the debtor is probably another trick to harass you.

I will be calling reading standards on Tuesday and start legal proceedings against Liverpool City Council for their continued harassment through these thug s.

    www.thecreditagency.co.uk/debt-collection/oft-debt-collection-guidelines.pdf

Whole sections on unfair practice such as "acting in a way which may publically embarrass someone" (e.g. asking a neighbour to identify you or get you to call their well documented debt collection phone number).

"Using a business name which implies public body status, " (e.g. 'DVSL' which is a bit too close to 'DVLA' for my dyslexic self).

"Those contacting debtors not making clear who they are, who they work for, what their role iswhat the purpose of the contact is" (eg. pretending they are a delivery company or similar benign contact).

I have decided to take legal action against this DVSL and aim to have their license revoked. I also intend to sue Liverpool City Council for their involvement as originator of this debt reclaim action.

The last debt collectors to pursue this said their was a "Partial Match on a vehicle at the address."

WtH does that mean? I suggested it might have been the same colour or maybe the car had four wheels luke mine did. Didn't to down well with the snotty cow who kept stuffing borderline threats through my letter box.

    NOT HAPPY
Had a call today from this company asking for a ex neighbour telling my husband they had a parcel for him, after googleing the number I have found out they are a debt collection company. I have just come off the phone from them to assertain how they got my number and why they are calling my home, apparently they get the numbers of Data Discoveries and try and trace the debtor in very underhanded ways. I told her I would be going to take this further as its harrassment and invasioon of privacy, luckily I recorded the call so it will be forwarded to the relevant agencies.

I am a registered debt collector.
As I found that this was a debt collecting company I called them back.
They wanted me to confirm a name and address.
I said that I would need paying for any information.
I told them that my usual fee is 20% off anything collected plus for a name & address confirmation it would cost them £2.00. They declined my offer.
