Well I do not know why you did that?! Any financial matter has to be spoken directly with the person that is being contacted, they need to know if they are speaking to the correct person before divulging other peoples information. The reason they will be calling you (as Im sure you must have worked out) is because you are in debt! Stop being an idiot and just give them the info they need so you can get it sorted. Also think about why they would not give the personal addy- because some angry debter could make alot of trouble if they decided to turn up at the building- it has happened before! SORT IT OUT!

Never do what the previous poster suggest, never give your personal details over the phone they could be anyone. As we all know anyone can ring you and say their whoever when in reality they could be a scammer. Ignore them until they they send letters then do everything by post but use the Internet for good advice first. If they ask you to confirm your address again say no, if they do have details on you they will already know this. Just end the call and get on with your life. As for people calling at your house this would have to be warned of prior in writing by law. Debt collectors always try this threatening tactic. Remember only debts relating to state payments such as council tax, parking tickets etc can use official court bailiffs without you actually being court summons first. It is down to these scumbags to prove the debt first without you giving them any info, which they will probably be unable to do as they only buy a list of debts with names, addresses and phone numbers but no paperwork. To prove a debt they must supply you with all paperwork such as statements and original agreements if they fail to do this after 28 days of your request then the debt is inenforcable and they should remove the debt from their records. Some wont but will continue to send letters threaten court and bailiffs which will never happen.

Please can someone help me I signed up for a gym membership last year but within 6 weeks my job situation changed I continued pay for first 4 months despite being unemployed and now gym within my area.
I explained situation but then was contacted by C.A.R.S who threatened legal action I had arranged repayment plan but for someone reason they failed to collect payment after first 6 months I have been inundated with threatening letters despite calling to make manual payment and setting up another debt plan.

I'm really frustrated as I have been unemployed for long time now not claiming benefits but continuing to pay for a gym membership I never used.

Write and offer them £1 a month is your best offer due to employment and send it recorded delivery. Once an offer has been made it is unlikely they will take you to court as you have made an offer the judge will rule in your favour with the collector picking up the costs. Unscrupulous companies will still harass you knowing this hoping to prey on your vulnerability to get you to pay in full but all the threats will be empty ones because you have already made them an offer. Stand your ground with them you have more rights than they will allow you to believe you have, also make sure all communications are in writing for your records and evidence as phone conversations can not be used in court. They may even threaten to send collectors round but thats all they are collectors not bailiffs, they can only enter you property via the court process, so if you do receive a letter from a collection firm write back saying an offer has been made and any visit by them will be considered as trespassing and will be reported to the police. Good luck hope you get a job soon.

I am getting several phone calls and answer phone messages every week and it has been going on for months. The person they want is unknown to me but they continue to phone me even though I have told them they have the wrong number. They say they have removed it from their records, but I have had another 3 calls this week. I am getting very annoyed, but they keep on harassing me. I am at my wits end!!

Hey all, I got the same message. We all Googled this so we all thought 'scam' but I can verify it is legit. With me I knew I had cancelled car insurance with Dial Direct (side note - never use them. They attempted to DOUBLE my car insurance because I moved 5 miles to another village). I was cheeky to them when cancelling because they were very unsympathetic at the extortionate rate & also their cancellation fee. I told my wife that they would try to stick me further, probably by not billing me to our new address to screw with our credit rating. Tadddaaa. This was it. I rang them direct, playing innocent. They put me through to their own debt dept and I squared my final (daylight robbery) bill. I asked the girl if they used CARS because I got a txt message. She said they did !! She also said she would contact them to get them off my back so at least I'm clear. I reckon you all realise you have something that remains unpaid. Beware your credit rating if you continue to do so, but I also recommend trying to square the debt with the original company, not CARS.
