Just got a text from "David Shaw", funnily enough I've been trying to cancel my lovefilms account and have removed my credit card details, they keep emailing me saying my details are wrong and they've suspended my account, but won't cancel it... will see if "David" calls, I can call them FOC on my phone, so might and withold number as well... fancy a bit of a windup.....

Yeah - just got this text today too.  Don't plan to ring it back either.. I wonder how many more texts I will get in the future...

I am just talking to Tiscali now. Called David Shaw yesterday - I apparently owe Tiscali £17.45.  Tiscali inform me that they do not use this Debt Collection Agency - that I am the victim of FRAUD.  I should change my Tiscali password as someone has got hold of my details.  This is interesting though - Tiscali do not have my mobile number.  How did CARS get hold of i?  I am really fed up with having to pay Tiscali to phone them to find out about this.  Today I received a letter from C.A.R.S. asking for the debt and threatening God only knows what.  What shall I do?

Yes I just got this text.  Came on here and really please to see I'm not the only one! Yes, I have had problems with Tiscali saying I owe them money, when all I did was reclaim money via my bank that they had wrongfully collected via direct debit when I wasn't even connected to their crappy service anymore!

Definitely not calling them after reading all of this!

The fact is everyone seems to be in the same boat - these 'c'a'r's' people are by the sounds of it a bunch of con-artists who don't know their A' from their E'.

Any cold call etc demanding money should be ignored straight away, but it sounds like 'Love film' etc and others have passed on your details to others, perhaps even sold them (i've heard they do that also - phone companys do).  

My choice is to go to the source - if the company who passed on your details won't fix the problems they've caused for you bad mouth them where you can (here for a start), then take action against them

Has text form C.A.R.S on behalf of Bennet Motor Cycle insurance whom had decided to renew my policy last August 2008 without my consent and was taking monthly payment so phoned them and stop payments and next thing got text fron Davis Shaw. the Vehicle has be decleared SORN since Aug 2007

Does a Company have a right to pass you data to a third party (Debt collection company) if the debt has not been proved ?

I too have had a text yesterday asking me to call. Dont think I will be calling it and if anyone decides to come to my house I have a brand new Taylor made Driver sat in my golf bag right next to my front door!!!
I 'owed' Tiscali the sum of £6.77 after I had cancelled my account after they didnt connect me for a month and nobody from Tiscali called to sort out the problem.
I wasnt going to pay but didnt want to receive bad credit rating so they have you over a barrel. I also wrote a very sarcastic and angry email saying I was very annoyed at Tiscali for charging me for a completely incompetent service!!
Now Im receiving letters and text messages from C.A.R.S.

Does anyone know if there is a company you can go through to get them checked out for harrassment, especially if they keep doing it??

I have just received that text too, and a letter yesterday saying I owe 10 pounds.  I think Watchdog could be very interested in this matter.  Who is in with me?

I have had several calls from this number, and quite frankly it is starting to annoy me very much. I don't owe any money to anyone but my student loan, what will start to be paid when I qualify as a doctor in two years.

They don't even leave a voicemail, what sort of company is this?, Is it even a company?.

I have wrote a letter to the Financial Ombudsman in the hope they can help me with my requests to resolve this matter.

Also, if you get many unwanted phone calls, it is called as harrasment, and you should contact the TPS or other nuisance phone calls organisation.

I just got one of these "Please call David Shaw..." texts, immediately hopped onto google to do a bit of digging and came across this site. The only thing that I can think of is that I've recently signed up for a lovefilm account...

....but I'm still in my free trial period!!!!! I've never used tiscali so I can't say it would be them.

called then hung up, this company is CARS dept recovery, working for Fitness First, who refused to end my membership, wanted me to write to some address, my arguament is, i joined at this GYM i can resign at this very GYM, i stopped directed debit, now they are after me for £51, they are pathetic.

this debt agency chases overdue and owing amounts for amny companies not just Love Film.  I have had letters from them for two different amounts from two different companies one being Love Film and the other being Direct Auto Finance.

Unfortunately most recovery parts of companies don't contac the other part to correct your file.

They aren't neccessary a scam just misinformed and not to clever at correcting their mistakes.  Don't accept the amount until they hae supplied full details of what it is for and whther it is a true debt or not.

As to them gaining your details and mobile phone nunmbers have you by any chance completed a ferwe trial of experian?  this is a likely culprit of providing new details to companies like this.

I don't trust it. I have had answerphone messages (I don't answer numbers I don't know) from CARS and just got a text from David Shaw. I have never bought a lovefilm and don't trust it, that seems to be the consensus so thank you.

They keep calling me as well over an insurance policy that was apparently cancelled yet all payments were made, confirmed by company. Got a big threatening letter saying they are sending out a Field Agent.... good luck to that field agent, i live on the falls road in Belfast.

I don't blame you Jeremy - this company is pretty good at beig unproffessional - fortunately I have been made wiser on companies like this!

Have a look at www.comsumeractiongroup.com who can provide template letters to stop the harrassment calls, there are also template letters to find out what the debt is for, is it a true debt and not one just made up of charges or in fact made up at all - also if it is statute barred which means if the debt has not received any payment towards it in a period of 6 years then it can no longer be collected.

Hope this helps further - remember companies like this rely on people lie us not knowing our rights on situations like this.
