Very unhelpful phone call - they texted me from a withheld number, requesting that I call them. When I did, they asked me for name and address. I refused until they identified themselves, which they refused to do. I asked to speak to their data controller, and was passed to a manager (one of five, apparently - they have no nominated data controller) who refused to divulge any more than the company's name until I would "complete data protection checks" by confirming my name, address and postcode.

Got a text from the same number. Got suspicious of it as they could have rang instead of texting. Here's the info on the company:

i got a text message 2day from this people with held number they ask me to call them in this number 01256306796 with a reference i did call them but not replay than i thought to check through out the internet if i can find any information about this number very strange call and strange message i relly dont know who they are

i was recieving non identified text messages from the comany demanDing that i call them urgently, they were very unprofessional and would not tell who they were until i confirmed my details. i refused. now i recieve deliberate missed calls from them. they ring once and hang up. This is a bait tactic to get you to call back. Inm my resarch in ot them they also send threatning letters etc to tempt you into calling them.

The copany has a reputation of threatning and abusive calls, texts and emails. Give them as good as you get. they won't listen to your complaints nor will they go away! I have told them to take me to court!

THE COMPANY IS C.A.R.S A DEBT RECOVERY AGENCY.

i got a call from the same number. it told me the number was DAVID SHAW and gave me a reference number. i am going to call them tonight...wish me luck...

If its CARS then it's possibly an overdue account on Lovefilm. I owe them £10 apparently, but I've never had a call from Lovefilm asking me for the money directly. I'll contact Lovefilm before I call them I think... hope that helps everyone :)

I also got a text from this number also asking me to contact David Shaw with a reference number.  I had a free trial with Love Film last year and towards the end, I changed my debit card number.  LF kept emailing asking for my new number and I didn't give it to them because I didn't want to continue after the free trial period.  I think I'll contact LF direct as well rather than talk to some low rent debt recovery business..

Yes, it is LoveFilm. I received a letter in the post myself as they said I had not returned 3 DVD's, they are asking for £30. I cancelled my account with LoveFilm over 6 months ago and returned the DVD's shortly after.

I also got an anonymous text telling me to contact david shaw.  They're obviously trying to scaremonger people. I also received a letter from love film saying i owe £30.  Wish I had never signed up for the service to be honest.  I'm taking your advice and dealing with love film directly! Thanks

i received a text from the same number they are a debt collection service.
They are not allowed to send you unsolicited text messages.Although i do not have a debt i was in dispute with an insurance company as they automatically renewed my house insurance when i didnt want them to. A debt recovery agency can only act when a debt has been confirmed by a law court,they can try and obtain money but dont pay them.
Any more than two seperate occasions where they harass you for money which hasnt been confirmed by a court then you can prosecute them for harassment.

Got a message today asking me to call that guy david shaw, funnily enough i signed on lovefilm a couple of years ago but never actually used it so i can't possibly owe any money, i'll just ignore it... don't have time to deal with them, they can contact me in writing if they want.

Same thing, hubby had a lovefilm account, they're on the phone every bloody day despite him having cancelled and sent everything back.  I keep telling them he's at work but they still call almost the exact time each day.  

They're claiming he owes ... get this HUGE amount ... £10 !!!  He's had several letters and numerous phone calls but no avail.

I have caller ID on the landline, and now that I know who the number belongs to I won't be answering it to them again.

Just had a text from this number. It's regarding a debt to Tiscali. Please note, I've had two letters from Tiscali confirming i don't owe them anything!! But yet still they set a debt collection agency on to you!!!!
It's probably best to reply to the text etc as they could probably screw you over big time if it's ignored.
I've got their address and will be forwarding copies of the Tiscali letters to them.

my name is david shaw, i live in basingstoke, i keep gettting people ringing me all hours of the day asking me why i am sending them text messages.
Its really frustrating i thought it was some kind of wind up but its getting on my nerves really, i hope this david shaw who works for cars stops sending text messages to people as this is ruining my life.
My wife left me and has taken our dog with her. She thinks im running some king of scam, i dont know what to do.

Yeah I have had simialr problmes with this David Shaw text. I have a "debt" with Tiscali although in reality I do not owe them anything.

Funnily enough - these texts only started when I sent an email to Tiscali complaining about how they are still asking me for money.

I included my mobile on the email and lo and behold - 2 hours later I'm getting these texts.

I just got a text from David Shaw also.  I don't plan to call them.  If they really want to get hold of me they can call me rather than send a very dodgy text message!

Just received the text from David Shaw.  Thought I would check the internet first and lo and behold here we all are.  Funny how it came up on Google as the std code and David Shaw!!!!

I don't intend to ring anyone.

Went away on holiday after cancelling my lovefilm account leaving an accidental £10 due on a cancelled card. Came home from holiday with three letters from CARS. I swiftly paid the £10 and sent an apology email to Lovefilm to which they even replied thanking me for the explanation.

That was over 18 months ago.

Yesterday I got a call from someone called "Denise" asking to speak about "personal finance" from this company. When I called up, they refused to tell me what it was about until I gave the bare minimum of a postcode. When I provided it, I was told that I wasn't on their database and then when I asked to speak with Denise, I was told no one with that name worked there.

In regards to the comment above, I just called lovefilm, they confirmed my debt was repaid and they are contacting CARS themselves to take me off their database.

Let's see if it works! :-)
