I have just got a text from our friend David Shaw and I too had an ilovefilm account that I closed a few months ago, owing nothing!

Like many people here, I thought I would google the name and number before calling back, im glad I did! I shall not be calling them if their attitude is like you all say - anybody wanting my address, etc, who will not tell me who they are first can Foxtrot Oscar as far as im concerned!

Trust me, for those owing a tenner, or thereabouts, they will do nothing aside from be annoying for a bit. I imagine that ilovefilm or Tiscali just sell a batch of debts for next to nothing and these parasites sit there dreaming up new ways to be annoying enough to collect said tenners!

Ttally out of the blue ,who are these people.Dont give any information ,ignore.

i just got the message asking to call David Shaw quoting Ref number. I have dispute with fitness first....They are b****ards.Basically i had three month contract with them and I WAS TOLD BY THEIR RELATIONSHIP MANAGER THAT ''IF I WANT TO CONTINUE, THEN I NEED TO TELL THEM AFTER THREE (3)MONTHS.
I did not want to continue, so didn't tell them and canceled my direct debit after 3 months in advance ( orange did this to me and i had to ring them  for 2 months to get my money back)...Then fitness first sent me a letter that 29.99 is outstanding balance on my account. I contacted that same manager and she said that she will call the head office and will let me know. She never contacted me and when i asked she said i HAVE TO PAY.......
I TOLD HER I AM NOT GOING TO PAY A SINGLE PENNY.......

Just had the David Shaw text too. I suspect it's related to my Fitness First membership which I cancelled two months ago - I was well outside my minimum contract with Fitness First when I cancelled so I definitely don't owe them anything, and if I did owe them money, they have my address and phone number themselves and can contact me directly.

I'm not calling this number and I'm not doing anything else until I have something in writing to indicate where the debt is from.

Had text ref money owed to Fitness First, I owe them nothing, they actually owe me. Also had letter from them now threatening bailiffs etc. I had tried several times to contact F/F by phone and email but they didn't hang about and gave it over to this CARS debt recovery people in Basingstoke, who incidentally have no people skills at all. Have been told by Fitness First this is now sorted, will have to wait and see. All very worrying in this current financial climate, last thing anyone wants is a black mark. Needless to say I will not be going back to F/F after this. Will report back with update as soon as I know. Good luck folks!

i recieved a txt from this mr Shaw clown also, mine i believe was due to Auto Trader Insurance 'auto renewal policy'? however i cancled it prior to it ending yet they took my money, my bank re-deemed it and since i recieved two letters from auto trader for £35, then this clown txt me asking for £28. . .must realise there is a resesion... so he be getting no txt and no dosh.. whehey merry xmas and all the best for leaving comments everyone...

Just had the same txt from Mr Shaw. I always google and use this site. Only thing i can think of is that I had an elephant car insurance policy that i did not wish to renew when it ran out in early November.

I let the policy lapse as i had paid in full for the previous year on a credit card which has since been closed. When they tried to take the money they could not get payment, so they wrote to me. I called them and told them i did not require the policy again as it was too dear and I had gone elsewhere.  They said there was an admin charge for cancelling the new policy. I said i havn't taken out a new policy. They say i didn't cancel the auto-renewal and that they had issued documents. I said try and charge me me and left it at that.

Lots of e-mails asking for payment in December, so i replied asking them for written proof of this as i had already destroyed the new "renewal" policy documents and could not check. All then went quiet until today!!.... They can still suck my plums for it! If i get any more hassle i'm going to go down to Capital Tower in Cardiff where they are based and really get my moneys worth!

Well This David Shaw bloke seems to send a lot of text messages, would not like his phone bill!!  Mine is in relation to Fitness First, I cancelled my subscription in October and paid for November as my contract requested.  I stopped the direct debit in December and suprise suprise they tried to take it claiming that I never cancelled.  I am disputing this with those clever people at Fitness First but it seems they have just passed the debt over.  How frustrating and stressful can all this be!!  Do not know what to do really, I have left several messages with my local club (Chesterfield) and have called their professional head office but no one ever calls you back!

I had the same text They were chasing money for fitness first cancelation. I would Highly recommend should you ever join a gym MAKE SURE ITS IS NOT< I REPEAT NOT FITNESS FIRST, Loyalty and customer service does Not exist in this so called company,

I have just received the same text from David Shaw ref: 2117759. I suspect it is to do with my fitness first membership which I have been trying to cancel for months. I cancelled my direct debit in the end and they are asking me to pay for an additional month. They can write to me if that urgent, but not had one letter requesting the money. Am concerned about effect on credit rating...

Received a text saying i had to call urgently. called to see who it was, 'cars' or something was said and i hung up - what is this?

Further comment, just noticed. Yes I also cancelled my fitness first membership, as the guy who took it out in the gym, kept texting me with filthy suggestions. I do not find this acceptable and am well within my right to leave the gym. Any more hassle and i shall sue!!!!

I agree, David Shaw can munch on my [***].  And I hope he likes it.  So can Fitness First.....

Also received the  " Could (name) please contact Mr David Shaw URGENTLY on 01256 306796" text and thought it seemed a bit odd that someone needing to contact me so urgently would text rather than call. So, googled the name and number and surely enough it sounds like this is one call I shouldn't/won't be making any time soon.

I received a letter today from C.A.R.S. stating that I owed O2 / Sainsburys £497.49 in unpaid bills. I've never had a contract phone and don't plan to. Also,  my mobile phone is Pay as you Go with Tesco Mobile, a company which I've worked for for almost 5 years, why would I use a competitor when I can get 10% of all my Top-Ups; a far larger saving?

If you were Sainsburys and a customer owed you money you would send some form of notification before using an account recovery service, wouldn't you? In addition, C.A.R.S. they say that their "tracing division" have located and confirmed my residency. If I had a contract with Sainsburys, wouldn't they know my address? I've lived in the same house for almost 21 years (my whole life!).

I'm going to ignore the letter and see what happens. If they plan on taking me to court, they'll need to prove I owe them money. Since they cannot do this, I have nothing to worry about.

I just had the David Shaw text too.  If I owe anybody anything, then they can put it in writing and make it official.  I have no idea what this is about but they'll have a long wait if they wan me to contact them!

hooray David has texted me too!! Funny thing is a Mr Green used to text me before i sent his company a snotty letter asking him for proof of debt. It seems Mr Green has taken the hump about this letter and passed it to David. Poor Mr Shaw will recieve the same letter and then who knows who will text me next week.

How can these idiots make your life a misery? And why oh why can these businesses keep cropping up?? is there no official watchdog or is that just a silly question?
