Had a call from this number has anyone else

i had a call today & they said technical support i have had a call before of these people and it was a different number just dont sign up 2 anything they are offering you. i found out that it was a scam when they called they get into your system & put viruses on...thy are no good.

Call from Redress Claims yesterday afternoon to "apologise" about their constant whining calls.

15.5.2012. I have had a call from an Indian called David.  He said he was from Pure Hub.  They are receiving error reports from my computer.  He needs to fix it.   I have got involved with a call like this before so I just asked for his number and said I would ring back.

We have had several calls over the past week or so from persons, reporting to be from Windows Technical Department help line saying that we have a virus in our computer and offered to talk me through a process to rectify it.  For the first few calls when we said it was not convenient at present and could we have a number to return the call they just cut the call, but today after two calls a person called Sid Watson (I do not think so from his accent) gave me the above number. Needless to say we will not be returning the call.

Looks like these scammers have changed their scam from PPI claims scams to computer virus scams.  These people want remote access to your computer and, if they get it, they will install spyware/malware to steal personal information like bank details and passwords etc.  Neither Microsoft, nor its partners, would ever 'phone.  It would be a breach of their privacy rules.  The people who 'phone know nothing about your computer.  They rely on scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge.  The scam has been exposed on several BBC programmes over the past few months;  "You've been Scammed", "Crimewatch Roadshow" and "Doorstep Crime 999" are just a few.

I had a call from this number today and he claimed he was from Windows technical support.
Wanted me to go onto my computer and wouldn't take no for an answer. I asked him to tell me what to do and I could write it down and check before I allow him to do anything but he got quite agitated. He said he was Roger Daniels and his call centre was in Salt Lake City! Employee number 10015.

He was quite adamant that I should open up the computer. I told him that I used Apple and he was so upset that he had wasted HIS time.

Soooooo My mum had a call from these guys, and of course she was rather sceptical about this call. The people claimed to work for microsoft and that her computer has malicious software on it. So I called them back to talk to them for her. Needless to say when I questioned them on how they would even know what was on her computer and so on they got rather agitated and told me they would call me back in two minutes. I waited a few minutes and done some research on them first (like a smart person would!) When I asked for Roger Daniels (the one who claimed he would help with the problem) I got a completely different Roger Daniels the second time around. I informed them that I will be passing there details to microsoft on the grounds that they are scamming people. I have to say, if they are trying to run a smart scam, the least they can do is use names to fit the acents they carry!

Just been to visit my parents and unfortunately my Dad had a call from these yesterday and fell for it. He's been having computer problems and thought these were genuinely going to sort his computer out for him. They got him to log onto his machine and they remotely accessed it showing all sorts of Microsoft errors that needed to be resolved. He gave his account details and they have taken approx £200. They have also put a password on his coputer so he can't log on anymore. The password they gave him was RAINBOW234 but it doesn't work. Fortunately I've got round it and has Norton Ghost installed so i've restored the computer back to Factory settings. My Dad is usually really good with spotting these sorts of calls but was just caught off guard yesterday. So pissed off with these companies that ring vulnerable people.

If anyone else has been scammed and got out of it could you let me know how so i can sort my Dad out.

It might be an idea to get the computer checked out by a local professional.  These rats usually leave spyware/malware on the computer when they get access.  He should also cancel his card.

The letters are depressingly similar:

London RT of London was cold called by a company called Redress Claims which promised to reclaim mis-sold payment protection insurance for her on a no-win no-fee basis. "I paid £450 for them to look into potential claims on each credit card and was told I'd get the money back if the claim was unsuccessful. I've never received any claim money, or a refund."

AB of Humberside paid Redress Claims £1,700 in 2011 after being cold called. "We trusted them, as we are desperate financially. They did obtain £958 for mis-sold PPI on a mortgage for which they charged an additional fee of £287. And £1,419, £608 of which they pocketed despite the promise in their terms and conditions that they would deduct no more than 25%."

SG from Coventry found that £3,855 had been removed from her credit card after a cold caller from Redress Claims gave her a hard-sell in April 2011. "I never received any bill or acknowledgement of this payment and they've since demanded further payments," she says.

PR of Southport, Merseyside paid a similar upfront fee which he was told was refundable if his six claims were unsuccessful. One claim was won but he was told to pay an extra £149 per claim to a company called Credit Clear Services to have the outstanding five resolved.

R E-H found £3,245 removed from his account, £590 of it for invalid claims. "I made more than 20 attempts to get the £590 back but none of my messages was replied to. They managed to get me £120 back from one credit card issuer and £32 on another and charged me £100 fee for each. Now I've had a letter from Credit Clear Services telling me my contract has passed to them and I must pay £99 for them to proceed."

After a long overdue investigation by the Ministry of Justice, Redress Claims's licence to trade was suspended last month due to breaches of the code of conduct. "We will take further action if breaches are not corrected," says an MoJ spokesman.

Given that a suspension can be lifted after three months if a company gets its act together, and given that Redress Claims will have made a consoling profit in the 18 months it has been allowed to operate, this is unlikely to pain its director, Naman Hussain.

Suspension does not stop companies dealing with refund requests from customers whose cases are pending, and the MoJ recommends they write asking for one.

Simon Helliwell, director of Credit Clear Services, which provided "auditing and legal services" for the company, declares that Hussain will be pursuing "other interests" and would not seek to reinstate the licence when the three months is up.

"We've agreed to take the thousands of unresolved Redress Claims' cases off them for no extra charge and will proceed on a no-win no-fee basis," says Helliwell, who insisted that "in comparison with many in the market Redress Claims was not that bad".

He was vague, however, about what percentage of any claim would be deducted in fees. "We'll abide by Redress Claims's terms and conditions," he says and admitted he didn't know what percentage these specified.

As compensation claims for mis-sold PPI can be made for free with a form provided by the Financial Ombudsman Service http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumerinformation/pro ... /claim-back-ppi , anyone who paid Redress Claims by credit card should consider applying for a refund from their card issuer, which is held jointly liable under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Some debit card companies also offer chargeback if a company is in breach of contract.

Sadly, though, many are likely to be left out of pocket and will have learnt NEVER to hand bank details to a company that COLD CALLS.

These peolpe conned money off me via my card and embarrassingly I fell for it.

I got a call from the above number, claiming to be from Microsoft Technical support.
They were telling me to download a remote access system called AMMYY.
There is a disclaimer from the above AMMYY company that states not to be downloaded if a Microsoft person calls.
BE WARNED - They are very pushy and quite rude, saying if you do not download the software, any problems that occur on your computer is your fault and Microsoft will not be responsible for any damaged caused!

Just had the call from Microsoft Technical support telling me that my computer was infected and that he could help me if I logged on and followed his instructions.  Spent a good few minutes trying to get Said Walton? to explain how he knew that my computer was infected.  Having heard of these types of call I flatly refused to follow any instructions that would result in me installing a program for them/ paying for anything.  He got very pushy and loud but in the end gave up.

As has already been stated don't  download anything from these scammers.
