I have been reading a considerable number of comments left by people and especially the ones upholding the belief that it is necessary and essential to ring people up 5 or 6 times a day, to get them to answer a questionniare.  I have enough of this going on in the local high street and door to door and I certainly don't want people ringing me up just to complete a survey.  These are nuisance calls, I didn't ask for them to ring me and I don't welcome them.  I don't answer numbers I don't recognise, but I still have to put down my work, walk to the phone just to see who is calling.  When your work gets interrupted several times a day by nuisance calls, I don't consider that a valuable necessity for the community!  It seems it is only the survey callers and ex-survey calls that are upholding their right to annoy people.

I wish these market research companies would politely p*** off. I am sick of the number of times they ring. It would be nice to have a button on my phone so that when pressed it would blow theirs up.

hello there i work for mori and i am sorry but you have no idea the amount of time energy and money and the amount of people involved in putting together a questionaire, the government ,businesses .charities etc..etc make decisions based on public opinion..all i do is invite the public to take part by giving me their opinion,if people dont wish to part thats ok .if they feel their opinion is not important thats ok too...what is not acceptable (in my view)  are people who dont answer the phone.......we are not mindreaders... we have to try an contact you because if we didnt we would be excluding you from giving your view,,if you answer the phone and politely say am sorry i dont wish to take part...thats ok too we wont contact you again....we are only people too not machines ....and ipsos mori is one of the biggest an most respected market research companies in the world(check on google)i am sorry but i dont see the problem here ANSWER THE PHONEand say i dony wish to take part and they will not bother you again

'We are not mindreaders' - Your company could take note of the Telephone Preference Service, that way you would have a strong indication of who is not interested in being called!

I'm sick of being pestered by this number throughout the day too!

These people [IPSOS-Mori I believe] have called 3 successive days this week whilst I am work - they do not leave any message. They also called each day for about a week approx 3 months ago. These are unsolicited calls but my main concern is where they have obtained my number. Is there anyway of barring their calls? I am registered with TPS but they obviously do not intervene.

I used to work for IPSOS MORI, and their competitors NATCEN for a while. They have no right to keep calling after 2/3 ignored calls. When I worked for IM back in the day we were instructed to not call more than 3 times to one number per survey.

I do feel a bit sorry for the canvassers, they get paid really weird rates (commision based), but I feel more sorry for the people having to suffer constant calls from them.

Who knows, they might go broke soon anyway, Nat Cen are getting far more work than them, and they rarely harrass callers...maybe IM should learn a lesson here

MORI bombarded my number for weeks, leaving silent messages or hang ups on my voicemail. When I picked up the other day asking me to partake in a survey, I politely declined, asking them if they would please not call again. The agent shot back with an insult, demanding to know why I wouldn't engage and as I was (stunned, but calmly) replying he hung up on me mid-word.
Not sure how these people get away with obnoxious, unprofessional behaviour like that. From reading a lot of other people's experiences on here, it seems to be norm with this company.
I don't expect to be abused when I pick up my phone. We all have to make a living. If you can't be professional and polite in a role like that, do us all a favour and don't DO the job. It's not our problem if you're having a sh*t day doing something so soul-destroying day in day out.
Companies are required by law to remove your number when you ask (that is, if you can get a word in before they put the phone down on you). If they continue to bombard, the ICO have the power to stop them.
