You can call 01274838272 and hang on the line for an operator rather than leaving a message (The message box is usually full anyway, probably with complaints!).  Give the operator your number and they'll take you off the call list.

I did went to TWO car insurance comparison sites last night online - TescoCompare and Confused.com.  On both sites I clicked the appropriate "don't pass my details on to anyone, I don't want to be contacted" options.

I got my first four calls from this number this morning.  As I'm at work and don't answer personal calls at work, each of the calls is just listed on my phone as a missed call and they didn't leave a voicemail message on any of them, which is REALLY IRRITATING!!!!!!!  Mind you, if they ring me again and I answer the phone and I ACTUALLY get to speak to someone I'll give them a piece of my mind - if I WANT to buy their product from having done an insurance comparison, I will buy it - I am NOT going to buy something from them if they hound me by phone like this.

I have had 3 calls in 2 days from this number and i used confused.com yesterday.  Each call i have had there has been no-one on the line

its the 7th tym they have rang me now i pick up the fone and no 1 talk's den 2 day they rang again i picked up the fone nd I answered and there was no response on the other end. I have been gettin insurance quotes recently.help me plz x

I've been shopping for car insurance today and have netered my phine number into many sites as it says it is compulsary.
Now im getting calls from many other companies - so this number is definitely 100% an insurance company calling, going by the other comments!

Rang three times and when I answered, they dropped the call!! It was also about half an hour after a quote from gocompare.com

I have just put my details's on gocompare.com and within 20mins im getting theses call's from the same number. Havent answered it tho. Got a cheaper quote elsewhere.

I've had calls from this number, there's no one on the end of the line when i do answer. I've never given my number out on the net, so it must be something to do with swinton insurance.

I got a policy with Swinton about 2 months ago now, and they're still calling me on this number with the "silent calls."
I chose to ignore them and/or just hang up after the first few days of it, but we're now talking about 80 calls in 2 months.
I'm going to call them directly and sort this out now or just bar the number from calling my mobile.

My advice - don't wait, because they'll keep calling.

Call 0800 056 5631 to get them to remove your number.

Phoned immediately after I had quote from Confused.com.
No reply and eventually they hung up.

I am not interested in un-solicited calls.

Can anyone suggest an expensive premium rate / 0870 number I can use, when I re-register with Go Compare and Confused.com?  Tee hee!

This has been driving me mad 15 plus calls a day, so ive rang the local branch of colonade, they have a number to call to have you removed from there system within 24hrs,if you want it to stop give your local branch a ring, it has worked for me.

Silent calls can be very frightening, particularly for people who live alone. In the vast majority of cases, these silent calls are not made by pranksters, burglars or stalkers. In fact they’re the work of a machine, called a predictive dialler, used by call centres to phone large numbers of people.

Ofcom is taking steps to help reduce the number of silent calls generated by predictive diallers by requiring companies that use these machines to play a recorded message on abandoned calls. This ruling came into effect on 1 March 2006.

If you follow the link, you can complain to Ofcom about it, as it seems that Swinton are not following rhe rules by not playing a recorded message identifying who is calling.  In addition, I thought that consumers had to be given a clear option to opt out of marketing calls, not after the calls start, but when they sign up to Go Compare or Confused.com or whatever it is that generates these calls.

Calling the 0800 056 5631 number didn't work for my as they wanted me to call my local branch about it.  Unfortunately, I'm not willing to expend one red cent in getting these people to stop, so I've used the "Contact us" form on Swinton's website to ask them to stop calling me.  If that doesn't work, I'll complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Bought car insurance through tescocompare.com at 9am this number has called me twice already with no one at the other end and its only midday!

If you call 01274 838272 you can ask for your number to be removed from their dialer.  I've just called so hopefully I won't be getting anymore of these dead calls.

Yet another annoying silent caller. Seems my registration to TPS falls on deaf ears when this phone number continues to pester my life. Have any had success in their home number been removed from the dialer yet.

I posted earlier and said I had used the "Contact us" form on Swinton.co.uk to ask them to remove my details (saves having to pay to call the 01274 number to ask for removal).  Swinton called me yesterday to ask if the calls had stopped and to apologise for them.  They did stop a few days ago so using the "Contact us" option does work.
