I just had a call from this number to call British gas urgently on 0800 107 7064.
I called them and got to an automated service. It asked for my account number which I didn't have, but then asked for the telephone number registered to the account.
I was then put through to a polite lady asking for some further details, and then she pointed out that me electric and gas bill were late being paid.
I said I thought the bill had only been issued last week, but it was infact the week before. SHe asked if I wished to make payment which I declined, and said I'd do it online.
Maybe I got a polite lady on a good day?

- AnnS replies to ALAnswered this - dialling code is local to me? My BG account is overdue (same reason as previous post above) - but told her I was not giving card details over the phone to a location outside the UK, as it evidently was.
Have marked the number 'Ignore', now off to pay bill! - PatHave had calls asking for Mrs Harrington. Have told them repeatedly I'm not Mrs Harrington. When they asked me who I was I refused to tell them. I'm not with British Gas and never have been. Don't know where they got my mobile number from.

- MarkI have had several problems with British Gas. They read my next dooe neighbours meter for a period of 5 quarters and billed me for their gas usage. When I pointed this out to British Gas they continued to read the wrong meter. After moving from the property and paying the final bill they sent another one 3 months later to my new address for a bill for £359 for gas usage from my previous property. They claimed it was an unpaid bill. I pointed out to them that they had read the wrong meter again and charged me for the gas. This is still in despute.

I have an outstanding amount on my final BG bill - the bill is wrong anyway as I gave them a meter reading over the phone and the bill says it's an estimate. I won't be giving this number *any* details and will be calling BG directly tonight to clear this mess up.- Caller: Maybe British Gas?
- MeggleMuggle replies to MeggleMuggleJust to update on the above. They called my mobile once (missed call), home phone once and left a pre-recorded message and my mobile again today, which I answered.
The chap was very blunt and rude, demanding payment there and then - I said that I would check the details and make the payment online as I wouldn't give my card details over the phone to an unknown caller.
In the end I had to hang up as he just went round and round the same spiel about it taking longer online and I could have my account stopped (didn't seem to notice that I'd told him it was my final bill, so there was no account to stop).
I checked online and I did indeed have that payment overdue, I'd missed it, but they'd also got an odd final meter reading - called them back on an 0800 number from their website, asked how they'd established that reading, happy with the answer so paid the bill. I asked the clerk I spoke to about this number and he was very diplomatic, he -
- Apologised that they had been so rude
- Explained that it most likely was genuinely British Gas
- Said that they get a bit 'pre-emptive' when it comes to outstanding final bills
- Also said that they're paid per payment they receive, so wouldn't be interested in passing the call back to core BG Customers Services - they want a payment there and then
I suspect this is one of those things BG don't have that much sway over - they want their overdue bills paid and outsource the service to the lowest bidder - the lowest bidder then gets things wrong and calls the wrong people, chases inappropriately or behave badly, but if BG get the money and the outsourcer gets paid, they are both happy.

- karen SmithBeing called numerous times by this number every day from first thing in the morning til late at night actually paid the bill about 3 weeks before they rang mostly calls are silent but now not answering the phone at all thought there were laws against harrassment phone calls am on the tps register, dont want to spend money paying BT to block the calls as I am as I am a single parent and money is tight and why should I have to fork out it's not me that is doing the harrassing. seriously thinking of buying a whistle to deafen them next time.

I got a missed call from this number, so searched for it on wcm.com and found that it could possibly be a scam involving BG. As I know I have two overdue bills with them, thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt and called them back. Went through some details with them, tried to defer (as I currently have financial difficulties) found them very forceful, a little rude and insistent on my making a payment there, or giving my bank details to re-set up my direct debit. Insisted that I didn't have my bank details and they should have them on file, which seemed to work, as she said she had reinstated it.
After I finished I was still uneasy so rang BG customer services to confirm, and they agreed that everything I had said about making a payment at the end of the month, and the direct debit has been set up and it was a genuine call. However, if (Like some people have said in earlier post) that this number can be hijacked from centres abroad, I would still be sceptical about giving out your details, I point blank refused to give bank details and they still managed to resolve my problem. If in doubt, call the customer services number instead (and its freephone) 0800480202.
Hope this puts some minds at rest! - DeeA few weeks ago I was getting calls on an 020 number, after finding out on the web who they were they stopped. Guess what I now get calls from 01613326130. If you pick up the phone nobody answers. If they want to waste their money it's ok by me. But I don't understand why they never leave a message.

It seems that British Gas may have given information on customers' names and addresses to Marketing Companies (as they do if you tick the appropriate box or not), one of which may have then inadvertently allowed unauthorised use of the data. This may have been neither the fault of British Gas nor the authorised user.
These are being used fraudulently to 'chase' British Gas Customers for money that they do not owe. The fraudsters will know your initials, surname and address but will have no details of your account. They may, therefore, ask you to pay an electricity bill when you do not get electricity from B.G.! Bit of a give-away that!
If you have any doubt about your bill and/or receive one of these phone calls, use the Customer Service phone number on your bill
(usually a '0845' number in the top right corner)
NEVER give out personal info and credit card details on the phone, no matter who they say they are - CaroleKeep getting calls from these people. Not a BG customer and haven't been for more than 10 years. If you pick up you just get a message on a loop to call them, so I have had to turn of my answer machine which is a pain. Don't know how they got this number either - and my bills are paid by Direct Debit.

Told them I pay by d/d - he told me I didnt! Again he demanded the money.
Just sent an email to the complaints department of British Gas : rachel.vincent@britishgasbusiness.co.uk.
I want to know how my details have got into the hands of these people, I hate the idea of them having my mobile phone number, all my bills are filed and all post here is securely destroyed, so the only way they have my details is from British Gas. Major Data Protection issue and I have demanded a full explanation.
