proporting to be British Gas an account closed 8months ago,on a property sold,they have details of my paying a gas bill and say £640 is owing for electric!!

this company is a claims company, but i can't find them on the web, i wanted to check them out before sending any money

It is the job of a Claims Company to get money due to you, so why should you be paying them?          The number actually belongs to British Gas so it seems more likely that the people behind you call are scammers.      You can verify that the number belongs to British Gas by visiting http://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-advice/c ... e-call-you.html    and typing it in there.    Did the Claims Company give their name?  Because if so your local Trading Standards Office might be interested in hearing about them.

This number is still scamming as British Gas 8 years on from the above comments, .and is registered as untrustworthy, BLOCK THE NUMBER and don't give them any details

Jean you are right what a cheek , I get so frustrated when I hear them Asian call centres , they can speak English they are so demanding for your card details I do not like this , bring back the British call centres !!!!

repeated calls from this number no messages

Oh my gosh something similar is happening to me. They have my named linked to the wrong address from years ago and are expecting me to pay a bill that is not mine. Did you resolve the issue? I'm having real problems!

The person on the end of the phone said they worked for British Gas, asked if I matched the name they gave and then they hung up. Not sure if they're just verifying information, but a little explanation would have been appreciated.

I phoned backed British Gas using a number on their website and verified that my account was overdue (never got a paper bill telling me so). The person on the end of the phone requested it got resent to my address and the problem was been resolved.

Advice for everyone: Phone British Gas. The person I spoke to was helpful and put a stop to the calls.

I find it hard to believe so many people actually believe these calls are from British Gas. These are thieves trying to get bank card details nothing more.

Called no message

Had a call from foreign guy saying he's from British gas. I asked what call was about, he said needed account details to continue. I replied not interested in scam calls and just as I hung up he replied it's not a scam call. Aye right.  I'm not even a BG customer!

Mystery unknown & unrecognised call from this telephone number. I am signed up to the telephone preference service as not wanting to receive 'cold calls from companies, yet I am still receiving some calls. This is supposed to be ILLEGAL,  so why are they still getting away with it!!!!!

Called on the 2nd of January (Public holiday here in Scotland) claiming to be from 'British' Gas - I don't have an account with 'British' gas! - English accent, Birmingham number. Knew my name, my wife's name and for 'data' protection' wanted the second part of my postcode (not much 'protection' there!)  - Claimed to be on about a gas bill they sent me via emai! - I'm strictly paper billing! And haven't HAD a recent gas bill!

Absolute ABUSE of a TPS number and limited publicly available data!  - Told them to 'put it in writing' by post and blocked the number; I STRONGLY suspect that this was a scam caller trying to get payment card details; possibly a spoofed number - their 'data protection' spiel doesn't hack it for a start!

This is a criminal enterprise purporting to be British Gas. They are not British Gas. They are trying to get card details. Do not have anything to do with this number - block it at all costs.

if no message left, phone does not get picked up - they are the ones wasting money!! usually if its for a meter reading then its usually an 0800 number

British gas need taking to task for giving out info as this contraveins data protection,I shall be looking into changing my supplier !!!.
