i was in work today when i spotted the same number 0161 332 6130 i rejected this call as i had no idea who it was . I have had terrible trouble with them i am not receiving my gas bill on quarterly basis , but guess what i receive the red letter from them . I have called them on many occassions regarding this and they say it has been sent out, when another operator says i am on paperless bill i do not have access to a computer at home so find this strange that someone has set this up . I have got no where with them . I am due to receive my next gas bill so will wait and see .

It's the collections team at british gas, when you call back its just an automated message giving you options; e.g: if you wish to make a payment, please press 1.

I've received calls from this number quite a few times and call back getting an answer machine saying british gas collections. I dont even have british gas, never have.

Had a call this evening from this number, identified themselves as British Gas. The wanted immediate settlement of a bill they claimed they had sent (no record of it being received) for £400+ to cover one month's usage (Jan-Feb) in a 1-bedroom flat!! I asked if the reading was an actual meter reading or an estimate. They assured me it was an actual reading. This was impossible as the door to the flat is triple locked, and nobody could have gained access without my knowledge. When I checked the actual meter reading tonight(mid May) it was 900 units LESS than the "actual" figure they gave me for the end of February.

Of course, British Gas has form in the area of squeezing money out of customers without justification - the recent attempt to double monthly direct debits is a case in point. However, I did not believe they would stoop to telling blatant lies in order to pressure customers into paying bills that have no basis in reality. Many people would say that British Gas is trying one scam after another in order to boost its profits and inflate the salaries of its fat cat managers. I could not possibly comment...

That is British Gas thugs on 0161 332 6130 in Manchester. Use BT landline to call them (British Gas) back on 0800 107 0224 to discuss alleged problems at their expense. However, ALWAYS call companies on their official published telephone numbers. ALWAYS check your own papers to verify facts before giving personal, bank and any account details on the phone to anyone claiming to be company reps/officials. WARNING: Unethical, unauthorised, unprofessional debt collectors and database compilers often misrepresent/lie, and even offer freebies (free upgrades, etc), to obtain the said details.

Its just an attempt to get your card details. After I got call from them demanding my card details for some sort of debt I didnt even have I checked with British Gas and they told me that they dont know anything about this number and they dont have anything to do with it. How those people got my phone and my name I dont know.

i had a call from this number today. will NEVER give card details over the phone unless i called them. im also in a 1 bed flat and with myself and my partner hardly ever in due to busy work schedules, and find it hard to believe the amount they say i owe.

Ive had 2 phone calls already this morning from them, i didn't recgonise it so i didn't answer. Thanks to u guys that wrote on this thread, ive had these calls before.. Never as much as others may have had but they sure are annoying. I have also been getting calls on my house phone which is ex dir and no1 has it.. bloody pre recorded messages about loans, debts, credit cards. I have never had any of them stop phoning me.. i get them between 5am - 11pm their number is withheld.. any suggestions?

So far today I have received 18 calls from this number, in the past I have had other numbers call me all claiming to be from BG.  As far as I know BG do not have a debt recovery department as such because they will simply disconnect your supply and you incur a cost for re-connection, please do not give any personal details or make payments over the phone to them, if it actually is BG trying some underhanded way of collecting monies then shame on them.

I received a call from this number last night. Demanding payment for a gas account for a previous address that I moved out of 2 weeks ago. He wanted me to pay there and then over the phone. I refused and said I would go online and make the payment today. I was threatened with debt recovery and being backlisted. I only moved 2 weeks ago and have no correspondance from Britis gas at all. I think its disgusting that they are allowed to bully people into making payments over the phone. I will be reporting this to British Gas.

Got a call from an 0800 no earlier today, answered - was british gas.
I was with them at my old property - have literally just moved so dont know if I am with them at new place.
They asked if they could get me to come back to them - told them I don't deal with the decisions that it's the land lord - it isn't but was too bust to talk.
Now just recieved a call from this 0161 number. I didn't answer, why would British gas call me twice in one day from two different numbers?!!

No Idea how they have my phone number!

This number phoned the land line today - which is TPS registered. They were on the line for a good 3 minutes - and it was dead air. When I tried calling the number back i got "this number has not been recognised."

After reading some of the stories on here, and believing them to be British Gas, I wouldnt mind, but the gas bill was paid yesterday... 2 days after it came in!

Everytime this number rings, I answer and it plays music down the phone to me. It keeps ringing and ringing. Who is this?

This number has called me several times a day, each time i answer, there is no one on the other end. it is becoming a pain as it is between 8am and 9pm. i would like to know who's this number is, i have tried to call it back but the call doesn't connect.

This number has just called me too, I have a feeling from the way people are talking that they are a debt recovery agency pretending to be the people who are owed the debt. I have some great debt and i find that if you are renting just ignore the recovery and eventually they will give up. Although i can never answer the phone.

This number keeps ringing me and there is no one on the other end or thry just hang up????? at all hours it is a pain.........can some one get it stopped

Ok - here's another corker for you all... I too have received hundreds of calls from British Gas - I once missed a couple of bills and they have been phoning me regularly ever since - even before they've sent a bill out they now call to DEMAND payment! Last year they kept harassing me - told me I owed them over £1,000. I told them repeatedly that was impossible and that my account was up to date - gave them cheque numbers and transaction dates when the funds had left my account to prove it. Finally my girlfriend spent 2 HOURS on the phone with them (at our expense) to get to the bottom of it... I live in a flat in East London, but the address they had on the account was an Indian Restaurant in Birmingham!!! We told them: "You've got this wrong, we live in London"... and those bright folk at British Gas said: "No you don't"!!! I described the scene outside my window... boats going down the River Thames, but they weren't having it. I told them to check the number I was calling from - a London land line; but no, they were right and I was wrong... I am a Brummie curry house...
