Called my phone but I didn't answer and when it stopped ringing I checked with 1471 and showed it was this number that called at 1857 HRS Scottish/British Gas, as stated by people above.

No idea why they would be calling since the meter that is installed is a quantum credit meter and not the old meter, and any debt that was owed to them was payed in full as of last year.

Same call again, but decided to answer it and got an automated voice (same as the one used by Scottish Gas), asking if I'm the account holder to press 1, if I'm not then press 9.

To be honest the person who they are chasing, is not me, my mother or anyone else in the house I stay at, but rather the person who had the number previously to me.

This number is ringing now on a daily basis and after I answer no one speaks for about 5 seconds then a call centre voice from India says Hello ..  and hangs up.

First of all I want to apologise for my English as I am not a native English speaker. My job is managing properties for some big landlords, who don’t have a time to deal with it.
Today I had about 30 calls from this number, which I left unanswered. In the end I’ve answered the phone and told them Mr. ME is dead. They just said they are sorry and if I can give them number for any other family member who will pay the bill. Truth is that I have an unpaid bill for gas, which is about 3 weeks old. But it doesn’t mean somebody should be calling me 30 times a day. If I answer the phone, these people are rude and threaten me with everything possible from adding extra charges to my bill, disconnecting me, changing to top up meter and messing up my credit history.
I had been with British Gas for quite a long time and I can see the way they are changing their tactics to collect their money. It seems they don’t understand and don’t care that regular people do get paid once a month and they have to deal with many bills in order of importance.
Before, they used to send reminder letters, another reminder, notice of disconnection, etc., which gave me about 2-3 months to pay the bills, what I always did.
But I am not letting anybody to harass me(before they were calling  me even on Christmas Day, New Year, Sundays, evenings, early mornings, etc.), so I did following:
-if you have online access to your account, change your contact number there: I did it to the number they called me from and I’ve got rid of them for about 2 weeks, till they started again...possibilities are endless...I suggest any paid number  to some similar annoying company or company, which rips of their customers on phone calls charges (Ryanair, etc.)...if their system is automatic, at least, it will cost them some money as well;-)
I can’t imagine what can happen if they use this this Mafia practice for some old or vulnerable people...it can cause breakdown, maybe suicide!!...and it happens here in the UK!
In the end of this discussion forum, I would like to see some real resolution for those practices of large companies, which are getting adopted not only by British Gas(lately I had similar phone calls from Atlantic Electric(they were much more polite-so the bill was paid with priority) and Barclaycard(6 recorded reminders just 1 day after payment due date).
Is there any better solution than just blocking the number or changing the SIM card to be protected from this sort of harassment, is there any customer protection scheme or law/solicitor firm which would act on those big companies? I will be more than happy to cooperate. All of you...Do not let yourselves be treated like  numbers or files....we are humans!

Answered a call from this number on my 15 year old son's mobile as they have called him every day for the last few days. It is British Gas collections. I started to ask the woman to remove my son's number when she hung up on me. How rude!! Will be ringing them back on Monday and asking to speak to a manager. He has a voice message asking him to ring back on 08001077064

why do british gas keep calling me telling me i owe them hundreds of pounds from a previous address when i had a pre payment meter!! This is ridiculous and i will not be paying!!

Just had a phone call asking to speak with my dad....I told the guy that he was at work so he said something like 'can I ask who I'm speaking with' (his accent was quite strong, hard to understand him clearly) so I said 'me?' to see if it was my name he wanted, then he just said 'tell him to call British Gas' and hung up on me! Random!!

Update: rang the 0800 number and if you don't put in an account number (which my son doesn't have anyway!) you get through to customer services who are less rude. Asked them to remove his number and the calls stopped. However, today they have started ringing him again!!!!

I receive numerous 5-10 calls a day with voice messages and text messages advising me that I need to contact british Gas this has been ongoing for at least 6 months.

Have been receiving calls from same number for over a week, 3 times a day!!! i choose to ignore or block the number. SOOO annoying!!!

how do you get o2 to clock the calls - they have told me to report it to the police !!! ??

I got one to, best thing is try foreign language just mess them about also or say hold and then go and have dinner, breakfast etc. while YOU put them on hold!

I got a call from this number early Sat morning. Offered me a discount on my NOT EVEN OVERDUE british gas bill if I paid there and then. I would never hand over payment details to someone who calls me. Cant be sure they are who they say they are. I told them this but they called me again twice on the monday. I have blocked this number from calling my phone!

I got a call today from this number and I answered.

A few seconds went by and I was cut off.

Called back and an automated service saying British Gas.

Why arent authorities acting on this, and who should we complain to?

I have had this number ring tonight, followed by another five calls from the BT SMS service and I presume this is BG also.  We were not in so call was not answered.  They have been harrassing us for payment of bills.  When they ask for card details I tell them I will pay online but they say that I will be charged £50 and the payment will not reach them for 10 days so I have to pay now.
On a previous occasion I told them it was not convenient to give my card details over the phone and they kept on pestering and even when I said I was at a funeral they said I should just find a quiet corner and give them my bank details!!!
Just in the process of changing supplier as I have had enough of their rudeness.

Just received a call from this number, i do owe on a British Gas bill.  Is this for real?  Is it really British Gas calling?  And if not, how do they (whoever they are?) know how much i owe on this quarters bill?

I just got a 1 ring missed call from the number, at 8 o'clock.

They left a message telling me to call the 0845 number "urgently" between the office hours of 8am and 8pm...why ring me at 8pm then!? I do not owe them anything.

just had my first phone call today, didnt answer coz basically thought it was damn rude some prick calling at 8 am on a saturday, iv just googled the number and OMG the stuff thats come up im glad i didnt answer!! They called my mobile number and i have an option on my phone(samsung tocco) to put them on a reject list, hey presto havnt got the anoyance of it!!! see if your phones have the same facility.
