- Ex BG custRecd loads of calls from this number-I too left Br Gas and yet they claim owe money. One way is to ignore the incoming call or several websites suggest briefly answer, ask them to hold whilst you finish what you are doing and just leave them holding for as long as you wish!!
This was email response form a very helpful BG employee who is still looking into my case:
I’m very sorry that you have had another call on this matter at all. I had considered this matter closed and I know that this is an additional cause of distress that you could well do without. I have not yet had a call from Daniel Johnson. I have looked again at all of your accounts with us and I can see that all your energy accounts with us show a zero balance, and indeed we have issued refunds to you. In short, from what I can see you do not owe us a penny.
I would like to be able to speak to Daniel so that I can work out why exactly he has called you demanding any payment at all and of course to stop these distressing phone calls. There is no note on the account from Daniel, and I’m afraid I have been unable to trace him. I have spoken to the department that would be responsible for calling you in these circumstances. The agent there confirmed that her records also show you have a zero balance. She also confirmed that the records from our ‘dialler’ system don’t show that anyone has called you. This is a matter of concern. If he does call again, he is welcome to call me on 0800 072 8630 (option 2). There are at most 6 people manning this line at any time and so it is very easy to get hold of me.
Once again, I am very sorry that you have had to deal with the distraction of being chased for a non-existent debit balance. This is quite clearly unacceptable. It is also unacceptable that I have not been able to give a satisfactory resolution to this matter and I apologise. I hope I will be able to resolve this matter for you speedily.- Caller: Br Gas or their debt agency/solicitors
- cheekymacintyreThis number has been calling me every morning and every evening for almost 2 weeks now. It doesn't surprise me that it's british gas. I left them months ago. I never answer because I dont respond to unknown numbers but more importantly, I dont want to talk to them! My partner used to work for British Gas and he said he's never heard of such practise. If they want to speak to me that badly, they'll leave message.... but they never do!
- 'chelleI've had a call from them every week, sometimes I get an automated messages that runs through twice telling me to pay a debt, it blocks the phone, even if I hang up it doesn't go away. I have set up an arrangement to sort out money owed, I did it a month ago, and its taken 4 weeks to get it sorted because they kept messing it up. And now its sorted I'm still getting these calls. As soon as I can I am switching away from them and NOT going back.

- Sonia SLast Saturday I received an SMS from British Gas asking me to pay what was due. I thought they got it wrong as I am not Mr 'Parin', then I deleted the SMS as I was not going to spend money calling the 0845...... no. given on the text.
Today I received 4 calls from this no. When I called it back, a computer voice answered saying 'Thank you for calling the collection centre', at that point I hung up. - LauraSame here! Settled my British Gas account 9 months ago and am no longer with them. I haven't answered any of their 8 calls, and just typed the number into Google to see what it was. Lo and behold, numerous other people are having the same problem as me.
I changed my utilities supplier because they tried to charge me £700 for a gas bill when I'd only been staying at the property for a month and a half! Turns out I only actually owed £40! The staff were very rude to me, even when I gave them the correct meter readings and sorted the problem.

What gives them the right??? - KayemGot a missed call from this number this morning, and less than 2 hours later I have another call asking for Mrs Wilson with regard to her unpaid bill !!! My name is not, nor has it ever been Wilson!! To top it all I got a text to my number last week asking me to settle an outstanding bill of £359.00 which was addresses to Mrs Roberts - again not me, nor is it my name!! I am started to get incresingly frustrated with British Gas' total ineptitude and inability to sort their database out!!

Even more so since they tried to up our MONTHLY direct debit to over half our YEARLY usage!
For nearly half a year now they have been messing up our account and repeatedly changing our details without consent being sought (despite notes on the account saying not to do this) and giving us the details of another customer who lives just down the road...
...am more than a tad worried that they are passing on our full details to whoever is answering the phone somewhere else!!! They don't seem to understand the datat protection act fully it seems.
British Gas have sent "to the occupier" letters chasing a debt that has nothing to do with us (or anyone else here as we bought a new build) and have also threatened to cut off the supply.
This is despite us phoning them sooo many times to have all the details corrected again and again and again.... and for them to confirm that our account is in credit and to tell them the correct line number of the gas supply etc etc etc...
Every month seems to take the incompetence of British Gas to a new level - one minute it's just an error, the next minute it's 'the system playing up' after that it becomes the national grids fault and so on...
If we could swap supplier, even to a higher rate, we would do it immediately simply for peace of mind but we can't until this gets cleared up properly by the company that is causing the mess in the first place...- Caller: British Gas
