    Just a quick update on the below - This appears to be a legitimate number.  The cheque I mention below has turned up in the post and cashed!!! I have to say, the initial call is so badly managed and setup.  I suffered the same as many on here...multiple calls, dead air...wha the hell are British Gas up to?

    Just had a call I caught after missing a few. They knew my old address and a coule of other things but nothing convincing.  After having a rant at the poor chap from India about how I'd actually moved out of that flat over 8 months ago just to see if I could pull anything else out of him, he transferred me to the payments department and a girl based in Manchester.  She said I was actually due a credit of £15.  I still think it's a scam however - so gave work address instead (they have junk mail filtering in place)...will see what happens

    Just had a call from this number, it was a really rude Asian sounding man purporting to be from British Gas and demanding my credit card details to pay my bill immediately.  I said I'd pay it in the usual way online and he instisted that the payment would take too long and that he would call me back later.  All sounded really dodgy and anyway I pay by standing order on a monthly basis so I hung up.  If it is legit, British Gas need to really to work on their customer relations!

    They called up today a number of times, my son answered, they threatened him with the fact that they were debt collection and we had to pay the amount. When my son pressed them for a reference number or a telephone number to call back on, they were vague and would not give that information.
    I find it despicable they would do this.
    What I need to say is that there was no money outstanding to British Gas either!!

    I got a call from them today, I answered the phone & nobody spoke but I kept holding on until someone spoke, finally an indian woman spoke, said it BRITISH GAS collections, wanted my final bill paying. I spoke politely to her telling her I will pay at a bank & not over the phone, then she got nasty saying if I don't pay NOW she will pass my number to a debt collection agency. So I told her thats fine & put the phone down.

    My dad was taken into hospital and is very ill i left the phon on just incase my mum needed me i Was telephone 2.07am 3.13am 5.10am and 6.03am what are British Gas playing at i have 3 children and we was up all night because of these calls i unpluged the phone at 6.10 there must be some law agains call on a night time what are they playing at NOT HAPPY THINK ITS TIME TO MOVE SUPPLYER

    They called me 6 times between yesterday and today. The voice had a strong Asian accent, really rude! They wanted me to pay immediately 61.50 pounds in order to close my account. I told them that I contacted them 2 months ago in order to close my account and now they want me to pay immediately????? I asked to send me the bill at home and I'd pay by the internet, as usual. He told me that I'd received everything by email. I couldn't believe that British Gas put so rude people in their call centers, and that they called me at 7pm. I wanted to complain to British Gas, but before that, I checked on Google and found out that I'm not the only one!!!

    Word has it that Hitler too recieved texts from these people regarding outstanding bills from several of his "properties" !!!

    think in fact he was claiming a domestic rate when he should of declared it "commercial usage"....think he switched to EON in the end...!

    I have had a very similar experience as 'Giorgio - 10 Dec 2009' above!

    After changing supplier in October, I contacted BG over a month ago to say I wanted to pay the final bill but didn't know where they'd got the meter readings as I had real ones and theirs were way off. I also then discovered they still had me registered for gas supply even though I'd changed both services. Had very friendly and helpful (a miracle!) BG rep say she would sort it all out, they would reissue a new electricity bill and 'someone' would phone me to resolve the closing of the gas account. I said there and then that I would like to pay everything to get it over with, and could they not just credit back my account if we found I'd paid too much...she said just wait for the bills, everything will be fine.

    Then....nothing - except over the next couple of weeks, I received increasingly threatening automated letters by post about my account being overdue. Still no revised bill or contact from BG as promised. Then a week ago, India calls to say I have been sent to recovery and I had a similar heated conversation with them as many have mentioned here. Only after 15 minutes or so did he admit that they could see on my file that I contacted them weeks ago to resolve (but no record of the amounts being wrong or that someone was meant to phone me to close the account??). I finally got rid of him, saying there was no chance I would give my CC details to someone who had phoned ME, even if they DID have my account details in front of them.

    Then, the next (Saturday) morning, I received another call, rehashing the whole thing again!!!!!!! I warned him I was going to put the phone down because I had JUST been through all this the day before! At least he didn't hassle me then, and conceded.

    Since then, I have received 5-6 automated messages on my phone each day, and when I am home, I am afraid to answer the phone. I have since paid both bills (even though I still feel the amount is wrong for one of them), but this info has obviously not yet made its way to India. I had just another call from them a few minutes ago, and as I will be home most of today, I presume to receive a call nearly every hour on the hour.

    Will this continue through Christmas!?! (sorry so long, if anyone has managed to get this far!).

    I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

    If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Wireless Telegraphy Act (1949) and I will report you to both Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.


    In case you are not aware of the laws in question you may wish to study the following:

    1 ) Communications Act 2003, Section 127

    2 ) Human Rights Act 1990, Article 8 - Right to respect for private and family life

    3 ) Administration of Justice Act 1970, Section 40 onwards

    4 ) Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949, misuse

    ive moved to canada but still use my UK number and i keep getting calls. given the time difference some of these calls are at like 4am, and when they leave messages it gets charged to my account. ive never picked up the phone to them. goddamn!

    Its British gas .If you want o complain about the calls then contact Ofcom they can fine them for nuisance and silent calls . I report every single call to http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/silent/ Hope this helps

    Just had a call  from this number - it was a recorded message saying - dont hang up etc - I hung up. Then the post man delivered a bill from them that was now a red one ( I had forgotten all about paying over xmas and now with all the snow etc and not being able to get out etc.....wooops)
    Anyway as I was reading the bill, I got a phone call from 08000724699... british gas  AGAIN!!! asking if I would like to know about their "products" my daughter told them If I was interested I would call them back....NOT!

    Okay we did owe B.Gas some money for an outstanding bill... BUT they keep ringing even though it has been paid ages ago. They ask for someone who doesn't even exist, and get as many as 7 silent calls every day.

    I've tried to explain that its all up to date and the person they want to speak to is incorrect... Do they listen? Do they F***.... I don't normally swear, but they are now driving me to it.

    I was told yesterday that they also ring one of my friends who is NOT a B.Gas customer and never has been. They have told him he has to pay £300 for an outstanding invoice - WHY? he's never even been one of their customer (and won't ever be now)...
