For the benefit of anyone called by REI.

REI is an FSA registered company and must follow regulated compliance procedures. If you have a complaint about their services that is not resolved you have recourse to both the Financial Services Authority and the Financial Ombudsman (details below).

    About the insurance REI supply.

REI do not supply warranties. Beware of companies who supply warranties as they are not regulated and many have been shut down by Trading Standards Agency. Be very careful if you are offered a warranty as these do not have to be underwritten and if the company folds your warranty folds with it.

The insurance REI supply is genuine underwritten insurance from reputable and known insurers in the market place which is designed to save the customer money over many current high street mobile phone suppliers and their insurers who tend to overprice their mobile phone insurance.

The typical insurance which REI sell will cost £133.20 over the term of an 18 month phone contract (note REI insurance is monthly so you are not locked into a contract and you can cancel at any time).

Compare this with insurance provided by the networks and high street providors.

    O2 £10.00 pm over 18 months =  £180  - Save £46.80
    Carphone Warehouse  @ £13.99pm over 18 months =  £251.82 - Save £118.62

Please note: You will always have a 14 day cooling off period in which to check that your new insurance is appropriate and please do the sums and see if it works for you. If not you can still cancel the policy for a full refund.

    Advertising Calls

Under current laws and compliance REI are allowed to make what is termed an 'advertising call' to potential customers, however they must say who they are and why they are calling. They also must explain all details of the product and they must not proceed with a sale unless they get verbal confirmation from the customer.

An FSA regulated company like REI must comply with strict compliance rules and all agents follow a script which outlines who they are and why they are calling. In the case of the script REI currently use, their agent will mention their name 3 times and also how they are regulated, also if you take the insurance with them that you must cancel your previous policy if you have one, and finally, that REI are not associated with your mobile phone provider or current insurer. The agent will require confirmation from the customer that they understand this before they proceed. Agents are strictly monitored but if you think that these procedures have not been followed, REI would like to know so please call them on their customers sevices number 01792 222322 / 222324 so that they can investigate.

If you sign up with REI they will send you a welcome letter with all the details about themselves including contact details and how to contact the FSA and the Insurance Ombudsman if you have a problem. For clarification this letter also states all the information again that was given in the script by the agent. The letter also gives you a 14 day cooling off period from receipt of your policy, so that if you are not happy about anything you have the right to cancel by calling their customer services.

    Complaints

Under FSA regulations, if you are not happy with anything you should make a complaint to the company concerned who must deal with it in a set time guideline. However if you are still not happy you have recourse to the Financial Ombudsman or the FSA and they will look into it for you. (all details below)

Watch out, I think these guys are fraudsters!
Just tell them to remove you from their list and not to contact you again!!!

I purchased my phone 2  weeks ago and so far this number has called me twice.

I have no insurance with Phones 4 u.

Call your phone provider if in any doubt about if you have insurance with them.  They can give you insurance over the phone themselves if you want it.  Dont trust these ppl.

    You have been warned.

Dont take the offers that these people give you, they said that i was apparently payin £9.99 for my phone insurance when i was actually payin £6.99! They then went onto sayin that if i take out a insurance policy with them i would only have to pay £4.99 a month but i had to pay £45.00 up front! When tryin to cancle this policy with them to stick with my original price they kept delyin with their responses to me replies! I had to sent out a written letter to them to explain my problem and to ask for a refund! I am still waiting for them to contact me after 3 weeks! Even though on several occasions i have contacted them to ask if they have recieved my letter and when will they be processing my refund! They just turn around and say they will give you a call back later that day and suprise suprise, they never get back to you! So be careful! Do not give them any card details or take a insurance policy out with them, ask them to not contact you and leave it at that!

Firstly why post an anonymous comment?? if you have a complaint then call the 1 of the many numbers that you can contact us on, these are:

    01792 222322
    01792 222324

    01792 224050
    01792 224051
    01792 224054

By leaving an anonymous slanderous comment then i feel that you are purely avoiding prosecution.

IF WE WERE FRAUDULENT WE WOULD NOT BE AUTHORISED AND REGULATED BY THE FINANCIAL SERVICES AUTHORITY TO SELL INSURANCE PRODUCTS, WE HAVE BEEN SINCE 2004!!!!

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE TAKE VERY SERIOUSLY ANY SLANDEROUS COMMENTS OR FALSE INFORMATION REGARDING OUR COMPANY AND WE WILL PROSECUTE!

LEAVING COMMENTS DOES NOT CANCEL YOUR POLICY, TALKING TO US DOES!!

These guys contacted me wanting me to change insurance providers... all they needed were my bank details.... yeh right, do they think i have a mental age of 6!

As one person above also said... the guy on the phone said he could half the £9.99 a month i am currently paying for insurance when in fact i pay no where near £9.99 a month...

When i told the polite man on the phone that i was not prepared to give any of my details over the phone, he responded "ok... well [removed:lang]off then", then hung up the phone!

IF these guys arnt FRAUDSTERS then i highly recommend them to employ a better customer service lol.

2nd Time Its Happened To Me

Funny i had a call from these as well yesterday, i missed the call but i rang them back and he said it was Dave speaking...so i said you tryied ringing my mobile number, he said "yes" and then said about being from Vodafone. He also knew where i got my mobile phone from, but didnt know the make of phone i had!!! He then asked if i was happy with my phone and had any trouble with it...so i said i couldnt get Youtube working, so he suggesting downloading it from website.

    NOW THE IMPORTANT BIT.
He then went on to ask if i had mobile phone insurance, which i said yes..then asked if that was with Carphone Warehouse, which i said yes........He then went on to say that they could offer phone insurance for half price meaning it would cost £4.99 a month, so i politly said no thanks and put the phone down.
The same thing happened to me last year as someone rang up offering cheaper mobile phone insurance which accepted, i paid £75 upfront....but i wasnt happy as i let my guard down when i was on the phone and gave my debit card details. I did cancel the contract and got my money back.

SO EVERYONE IF THIS NUMBER APPEARS ON YOUR PHONE DON'T ANSWER IT OR SAY NO TO THE INSURANCE.   AND IF I WANTED TO BUY ANYTHING OR GET INSURANCE I WOULD RING UP MYSELF OR GO ONLINE AND NOT HAVE ANYONE COLD CALLING ME!!!!!!!!!

Not sure where you got your information from but it seems you were not listening to the conversation!! Firstly we record our phone calls and your more than welcome to request a recording.
secondly we actually read you 3 (yes 3) declarations that we are not associated with your current mobile provider or insurer.
thirdly our policy is not £4.99 per month!
fourthly we do not have a Dave working here!

    Many Thanks

Received a call today from this number - person on the line was charming, and said it was a courtesy call to see if my new phone was OK. No mention of insurance, but then since he was unaware of where I purchased the phone he stood little chance of getting any details from me. Couldn't comment on whether company is fraudulent or not, I suspect not if they are regulated but the openning patter is misleading they don't say they are from your mobile provider, but equally I did not get any of the three above mentioned declarations that they weren't!

Martyn, if you read this and wish to reply I would be interested to know where your company got my number and obviously many others from......

Called regarding a new mobile I bought, they said that i could have a reduced rate on insurance as i have been a long standing customer, the caller wanted my details (including banking information) to confirm the new direct debt - When i have said that I dont wish to give my bank details over the phone, he said that they only operate over the phone and cannot do it any other way. The caller did say that the compnay was regulated and gave this number 4114234. At first it the caller made me believe that he was calling from Phones4U. I phoned the store that i purchased it from and the manager said that it sounds fraudulant and to ignore the calls. I rang the company back and requested that I be removed from the calling list - hopefully they wont ring back

I've just a call from this number but didn't answer as was at work and ended up here by searching for who it was. Ste, that reference number you were given is invalid, I have just checked out that number on the FSA list of regulated firms (anyone can do this from the FSA website: http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/firmSearchForm.do) and for a start that number is too long (it should only be 6 digits), I did also search with only one 1 in case it was a typo, but that comes up with someone completely unrelated. I'm not saying that this company is not regulated, but my investigations suggest that it's probably safest to stay clear.

I had a similar call a couple of years ago from someone claiming to be from the company doing the insurance for my phone, I was wary so asked them to confirm some of the details of the contract to prove who they were (I did the same with my network provider the next day when they called to ensure everything was all set up OK & they had no problem with it - a genuine caller should have no reason to have a problem). I only asked for confirmation of the network provider and the tariff, they answered this, but got it wrong so I politely told them that I would not speak to them further and hung up. She called straight back and started getting aggressive asking why I'd hung up, to which I replied 'you didn't give me the correct answer to my questions' she was adamant that she had and started being abusive so I just hung up again and she went away then. To me this was just more proof that it was a scam.

Hi, unfortunately you were given the company registration number instead of the fsa number for your reference the fsa number is 411453 you will find that we have been regulated since 2004 (YES 2004 !!!)
i can assure you the government would simply not allow us to operate that long if we were any way fraudulent! The stores will always lead you to believe we are a scam or fraudulent to save your business! Its easy, you pay us £127 for 18 months standard insurance with a £25 excess fee or you pay the store approx £180 with a £50 excess fee on comparison. I'm no einstein but surely ours is cheaper? WE ARE HERE TO SAVE YOU MONEY GUYS NOT STEAL IT! Incidentally if you take our new product, you get the first month free then a simple quarterly payment of either £17.97 or £23.97
    Thanks

I don't think they're fraudulent, but the customer service guys who call do sound a little bit dodgy. I got a call from them earlier, but asked if they could call me again later, as I got the impression that they were calling from Vodaphone and I wanted to verify that- thanks to everyone who posted. I called them back and said I wasn't interested in their insurance deal cuts and he said okay and hung up. Just be careful and know that they are a seperate company who offer to reduce your insurance, they are not anything to do with companies that you bought your phone from, and they don't offer to actually insure your phone. Still don't know where they get their information from though. And they definately did not tell me they were from a company offering insurance cuts.

I have it on very good authority that this company (although a valid insurance company) obtain our numbers buy purchasing a phone at the beginning of the month, and also at the end.  Because a lot of the numbers (if not all) are sequential, they can therefore work out the numbers in between that have been sold.

I have had a call today, and if they had been upfront and honest about what they were trying to sell i.e. a separate company I probably would have taken it up, but having been lied to about why I had to reconfirm all my bank details and that NO CHARGES would be taken from my account until August, then finding out that in fact I would have to pay £45 up front left me feeling more than a little duped and have cancelled all transactions with my bank.

I also telephoned the store where I purchased my phone and was assured that this company is in no way affiliated with Phones4u

Called twice in the short time since I took out a new phone contract via phones4u. First time told the guy I wasn't interested but he wouldn't take the hint so hung up. Second time I didn't answer.

FAO "Martyn Smith" if people wanted insurance they would take it out along with the the phone contract or go to a reputable company - not from a commission based cold-calling call centre chimp working for your sh*t company.
