Just got a call from this company. It is the fourth call I have had from ridiculous companies offering me insurance that I do not want/need, I asked the sales person where they got my number so that I can find the source of the problem. He replied 'my boss' in the most sarcastic and rude way I have ever been spoken to, I asked if I could speak to his boss he told me to hold the line and put the phone down.

What a great company, they wont even tell you how they got your number.

Even if I wanted insurance I wouldn't trust this bunch of clowns, rude staff and pestering phone calls, what a great technique you have!!!

    Congratulations on your fantastic company.......HA!

I have also received a call from this wonderful company however as i am an ex-prison officer i have dealt with cheats and fraudsters all the time! As soon as the un-named man mentioned he was from Vodafone i told him to stop calling as i had recieved numerous calls from this number, he stated "no problem can i have your name to take you off my list". I instantly knew something was wrong as surely if he was actually from Vodaphone he would already have my name> the man got anxious and stuttered tried to explain that i had to confirm it, i explained that i was not that stupid and he began to laugh and stated "yeah you are right i'm not actually from Vodaphone, does that company still exist". Unfortunatly for this company they claim they are registed at the moment but if enough people complain and are being cheated they can also have their licence to trade removed!
The people that work at this so called company must be so busy as they all seem to work for Vodaphone, O2, The Carphone Wearhouse and Phones4U!
As of today i have reported this as harrassment to the Police and have also contacted BBC Watchdog!

    Stop the scam
Called by protectagadget who said they were calling about my phone insurance on my new Tesco phone.  So of course i confirmed my details as I'd asked for Tesco's insurance.

The I got my real info through from Tesco and a separate letter from this lot.  Called the Tesco guys who knew nothing about this company.  They didn't seem very happy :-)

protectagdget = sharks.  I read read their info.  The cover's rubbish and they're saying I have to pay a 25% cancellation fee.  So now I'm going to make a call to the FSA.

My daughter took on a contract phone recently and also took insurance with it . No-one in the shop explained what was included in the insurance and what was not so we cancelled it the next day
Earlier today she had call from this number, the caller said he was working on behalf of vodafone and calling about the phone insurance, she told the caller she does not want insurance and to remove her number from his list and not call again. He responded with an 'ooooo' kind of noise, when she told him he shouldnt be so rude he cheekily replied it was a yawn! and then had the audacity to continue with his sales patter and asked her to confirm her bank details, when she refused to give them to him he went on to say that insurance was already set up because it was mandatory and unless she gives him bank details she will have to pay £9.99 each month and miss out on a £5 discount, as she was about to ask who he really was he made a silly wind breaking noise down the phone and hung up.

Someone said on here that Vodafone have insisted they haven't passed details/numbers on to third parties...well they would say that as its illegal without the consent of the customer, I always make sure I check/uncheck boxes on contracts, stating I dont want to be contacted for marketing purposes or with offers from the company itself or by third parties/carefully selected companies...my daughter was naive and never checked the box when she took on the phone which is going straight back to the shop where it came from first thing in the morning.

Avoid this rogue trader. They have the worst example of 'customer service' that I have ever encountered. They were rude and dishonest with me, and now completely unwilling to show any flexibility regarding an issue of representing themselves as my mobile phone network and tricking my bank details out of me over the phone in doing so. After many attempts to talk to a cust svc rep,  I was told the guys name who deals with this was martin, he we will phone you. Well I waited and waited for that call. phoned so many times and got hung up on, then told leave your name and number and he will get back to you.
I was finally forced to write a letter, which I did. I was very appropriate, stuck to the facts, and after five weeks, received a call from a man with a welsh accent who showed no interest in understanding what happened to me. I strongly advise anyone contacted by this company to report the incident to the fsa.

I was called a few days after puchasing my phone by a company which i decided to take insurance out with, a day or so later protect a gadget called and made out to me that they were the insurance company I had previously chosen. They assured me that they were working as part of my network and were confirming my details etc. I then recieved a letter from 'ProtectAGadget' which I knew absolutely nothing about. I then contacted the customer sevices board to cancel this 'agreement' i had apparently made and I was told that the cancellation team were busy and they would call me back, which they didnt. I then persisted to call back which took me the best part of 2 hours before reaching the most rude and arrogant man i have ever had to deal with - which resulted in myself terminating the call. I then had to move on the contacting SuperCover to attempt to terminate the agreement only to hear that they knew nothing of my contract with them and had no details of me at all. This company is w**k in my opinion and would advise anyone to think again if they decide to use it.

    Salesman
I am a respectable salesman working for a company that sell mobile phones and other gadgets i do offer cover to all my customers but leave it if they are not intrested. I sold a phone and insurance to my mother in law the insurance cost £3.99 per month which is a good price, but today she got a call saying tht for some reason the system has mucked up and she is paying the wrong price it should cost £8.99 per mobth but as a good will gesture they will meet in the middle and charge £5.99 a month, when in fact they had nothing to do with the policy she already had so i rand them to get it cancelled they then informed me that she had to sent the paperwork back with a cover letter saying she would like to cancel so i phoned the fsa to fing out if this was legit, guess what big fat no anyone can canel their policy and accour no charges they gave me the info of the comany that govern the appointed company, after speaking to a very helpful lady at super cover insurance she informed that any one can cancel their policy by ringing super cover but at least 24hrs after the company take your details which is fair enough the number for the admin team is 02089604191 these guys are very helpful and are happy to take complaints. The advice i would give anyone that if you take insurance to do it with the company you purchase your products from and if you get a phone call advise that your not intrested and would like your details taken off their systems to avoid any other calls i hope this helps with any problems anyone has had with protectagadget

hello they are not vodafone people like they tell you, its a conning trick to get your bank details, the same thing happened to me they caught me at a bad time i asked him to phone me bk but he said it would only take 2 Min's, i just need to check that i have all your correct details to apply some settings to my phone service with them, if i did not then my phone will get cut off, because he said that i thought he was legitimate he knew some of my bank details and asked me to verify the rest, he then went on to say because i was a valuable customer he would give me a discount for my phone insurance, i said yeah thats fine thinking nothing of it.I thought about it afterwards how can i be a valuable customer when i have only just signed up to vodafone, so i spoke to my mum she said it doesn't sound right and called vodafone, they said it was not them who called and i should call my bank and notify them to keep an eye on my bank account.

steve, unless you know all the in's and out's about insurance then i guess your rant and rave is of a petulant child nature. asur it are a company who have appointed representitives under them, real estate international went in a different line of buisness so i guess your just left with the latter who work just as the rest of insurance companies out there. If you want to listen to a call, provided you have taken out the policy then just ring them and asked to speak with one of there managers, they cant get away then, can they?

    Dear MR Smith
Look at the reviews, Are you thick? Can't you see the treatment that these poor people are receiving ? Do you think that they are all making them up ? All you can reply is " I take these comments very seriously" then threaten to sue everyone for slander !
I can picture you right now, A smug little jerk driving a big car that is probably an extension of your very small [***], enjoying luxury at the expense of ripping people off. I am more than happy to call you a total f**kwit and see you in court, do you think the judge will jail me ? D**khead.

    NOTE
Scam operation - just do a search for mobile insurance scam and you'll get loads from South Wales

    BBC:   http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/8632325.stm

    Swansea Trading Standards:

MORE than 10 local companies are being investigated by Swansea Trading Standards in relation to a mobile phone insurance scam which is affecting hundreds of customers in the UK.

The scam involves locally-based companies attempting to sell mobile phone insurance to individuals who have recently purchased mobile phones.

Complaints to Swansea Council's Trading Standards Department have detailed a number of worrying practices that are leaving consumers open to fraud.

And warnings are now going out to Swansea-based consumers to be on their guard if they receive unsolicited calls from companies attempting to sell mobile phone insurance.

David Picken, Divisional Officer in the Council, said: "Many of the customers who have called us claim to have been contacted by locally-based businesses attempting to sell them mobile phone insurance.

"Many of them who had bought new mobile phones from reputable retail outlets received unsolicited phone calls often within hours of the purchase and offering insurance for the phone. Some were even misled into believing that the company ringing them was linked to the retailer of the phone.

"Our concern is that these companies are not approved to sell insurance and are deceiving customers into paying for illegal products. These bogus contracts, unlike properly authorised insurance, do not have any protection for consumers.

"And in some cases customers are being asked for bank details and, in doing so, are leaving themselves at risk of fraud.

"We're now using our statutory powers to investigate more than 10 companies-many of which are based locally."

New power that came into force in May 2008 now provide local trading standards departments with the ability to go after companies who are thought to be conducting specific practices.

The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 prohibits unfair commercial practices. The Regulations contain a list of 31 banned practices which are always deemed to be unfair.  And in addition, the prohibition relates to misleading actions, misleading omissions, aggressive commercial practices and commercial practices that contravene the requirements of professional diligence.

John Hague, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "New trading standards powers are intended to stop consumers falling victim to trading practices which are unfair or operate to mislead or deceive people. Companies flouting the new laws will be investigated and action will be taken to prevent harm to consumers in Swansea and nationwide.

"I would urge all members of the public not to give out personal details such as bank details over the phone."

Consumers with complaints or who need advice about unauthorised insurance contracts entered into should contact the Consumer Direct helpline on 08454 04 05 06 or complain online at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk

Consumers can also contact the FSA consumer helpline on 0845 606 1234.
