Constantly get calls from asian sounding people asking to speak to people at my address. Now over 5 years ago 3 families lived at this address - they ask for the surnames of these people - not me. The gap/silence before the person speaks at the other end is the call centre automated call be passed to the human being - probably over voip from the dialler in the UK to the human operator somewhere in india. Obviously they are using an old database of information. My number was x directory as it was with the old owners and it was a home highway business line - annoying. Might change my number.

Called me 5 or 6 times since Saturday, asking for a friend of mine - apparently they work on behalf of Halifax or HBOS and are part of Agilisis; tried calling them, have been waiting for a call back, ironically.

What's odd is that the friend has been divorced for over a year and changed her name about the same time. Told them next time I'm abusive.

Called me about 5 times over the past couple of days. I have not answered when at work and then when I try to call back I get their message "one of our representatives has tried to call you and will call back again".

    Frustrating!

This number called both my home and my mobile today. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. When I rang the number back (witholding my own number), I got a recorded message saying: 'One of our representatives tried to call you today. We will call back another time'. They did not identify who the number belonged to, which I find most objectionable. I find it hard to credit that reputable companies would use an operation like this.

Further to my post above, late last night I answered a call from the number and was told it was the Halifax and they wanted me to confirm my postcode and year of birth but I refused. Today I called the Halifax and they confirmed this was the number used by the firm they employ to hassle people about late credit card payments. It seems my last payment was delayed somehow and they'd only received it yesterday so I shouldn't have been called at all.

I'm appalled by how these people operate but at least we can be assured it's not a scam.

These people have no rights at all to ring and ask for such personal information. After all we are constantly being told that the process of identity theft can take on several forms, one such method is for call centres to ring people at random to harvest information which could be used later for the purposes of identity theft. After all the people ringing me would not give me their date of birth, address, house nimber etc, so why should i give it to them. Many people fall into this trap in giving this information out and the methods used by these call centres is highly irregular. Lets look at it anothr way, It is straightforward to pick a name from a phone book or even from a earch of 192.com to establish the name of a housholder to then ring him up and sound so plausible to gather personal information for the use of identity theft.

After many calls from these jokers, I have found out that if you ring HBOS (Halifax) customer relations, they SHOULD be able to find out why they are ringing you. If you tell the moron who rings you to add DO NOT CALL to their system against your number, it should stop after a "short while". I have complained to the TPS about this, I have also complained to the ICO; problem was that somebody associated with the person they were looking for had put my mobile down as the contact. HE owes the Halifax money, so it's up to them to get hold of him. I may be inclined to pass on his details though.

im getting about 4 or 5 calls a day from these idiots... its been happening for about 2 or 3 weeks now... getting ridiculous. i had the same thing from a similar 0203 number a few months back but it eventually stopped.

everytime they ask to speak to patricia lewis and everytime i say its a wrong number and ask them to change their records, either that or i just dont bother answering.

im absolutely fed up with it! thought id see if i could find out the company responsible and was surprised to find this site with other peoples similar complaints when i typed the number into google.

i especially like the "[***] in her mouth" suggestion, might give that a try next time they call.

OK, guys this is how i handle it. When they ask for proof of who you are (DOB, postcode etc) you say to them "give me proof of who you are, if you are really from my bank you will be able to give me certain details" they get VERY angry, make excuses and hang up. its rather amusing, especially on speaker phone!ahh what fun!

chris your a walley, pay your credit card bill and you wont receive any more calls.  in respect of you "supposedly" asking the caller to confirm their ID we are prepared to answer that question by suppling you with information to identify who we are. Stop dreaming and pay your bill, if you cant afford it you should never have had it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently, they are calling on behalf of halifax and trying to get late payments... even if it is for only £5 ! I just spoken with someone from the bank and they confirm that. Still, I would call halifax direct and make my payments direct to them!
