Just recieved a call from this number for the first time. Didn't answer as I normally do with weird numbers, might answer next time and give them the run around for a while.

Surely there must be a way for someone to track this number, don't you have to register with BT or someone to set up a phone number?

I've had FIVE phone calls from this phone number in the past week. I have no idea who they are or why they're calling and it's seriously irritating. I haven't answered any of the times that they've called. However, whenever I don't pick up a call, it says that I have a voicemail message and when I call 901 to listen, there's no noise. :|

My daughter is being called by this number but they just hang up/or missed call. However everytime she has one of these calls her pay-as-u-go credit goes down considerably. Anyone now how to stop this? it's really causing a problem as she is only twelve.

I have just recently started to get calls from this number, they hang up before I can answer.  I do wonder if it is connected to a call I recieved from a telemarketer number 02079253600 as the calls started shortly after this call.  I have phoned O2 who said they didn't know anything about this number

I recieved a call from these too, the line was silent until i spoke and 'Tom' was a representitive from o2 calling about my account - then hung up.

Ive just had a one to one chat with o2 and heres the outcome - please note, a little suspicous i get told to go to the police and then at the end of the convo im almost pursuaded not to

Welcome to O2 live chat. Someone will start chatting with you soon.

    You're through to Peter.

Peter: Hi Alley, I'm Peter from O2 online chat. How can I help you today?

Alley: I have had a nuisance call from number 02202, a guy called Tom but he didnt proceed the conversation and hung up on me, can you stop these calls?

Peter: Don't worry, I can definitely help you with this.

Peter: Just to confirm, your mobile number is 07707 587 646. Am I correct?

    Alley: Yes

Peter: Alley, if you're receiving nuisance calls from any particular numbers then you get it blocked if your mobile has a feature of blocking the calls.

    Alley: It does not

Peter: In that case, the only option is to report these numbers to the police.

Peter: They'll investigate it for you.

Alley: Im not sure the police can help if its being claimed o2 is calling ,e

Peter: Please give me a minute while I'll check this for you.

Peter: It seems that the calls you're referring to are marketing calls. In this case, I'd suggest you to register for the Telephone Preference Service. Registering your number with the Telephone Preference Service on 0845 070 0707 will remove your phone number from any marketing lists. You can also do this by using the link below: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

Alley: Im already registered with TPS. Do you know who the company is?

Peter: Please click here for to register for the same.

Peter: I'm afraid we'll be unable to check who is callingyou.

Alley: Then how do you know its a marketing call?

Peter: This number is from O2 marketing department. They call the customers when they're eligible for offers and promotions.

Alley: I made it quite clear in the past not to call me and if this was the case, why stay silent until I have spoken and why hang up for no reason? I will take this matter to the police.

Peter: I understand what you mean. But I'm sorry this happened.

Peter: What I can do is I'll forward your request to the support team and they'll stop these calls for you.

Alley: It appears from research i have obtained im not the only one 'o2' do it too - if this really is o2, do you realise what bad customer service it is making nuisance calls? and no thank you Peter, the police will deal with it.

Peter: Please give me a chance and I'll try to look into this for you.

Alley: You said at the start of the conversation to go to the police. So i am.

Peter: That was if you were receiving nuisance calls with the known number.

Alley: And i am receiveing nuisance calls, hence this conversation.

Peter: We can deal with the marketing calls and I'm sure I'll get this stopped for you.

Peter: Yes Alley, but this are marketing calls, which can be dealt with.

Alley: By the police. Thank you for your time.

Definitely 02, definitely an outsourced sales team, and definitely targeting PAYG customer, which is why they're asking for details - they have your number, but unless the SIM is registered, they don't have anything else!

I picked up a free SIM a few days ago for emergencies/spare phone, which is clearly why they've phoned my main number. Explained it was for spare/emergencies so therefore I wasn't sure what kind of use it would get, and that was that. All perfectly polite.

Its O2 marketing. Why are people calling it a scam?

It was regarding my O2 broadband renewal, just got 2 months for free by renewing another year. I was greatful for the call. Towards the start of the call I did have to confirm my name and first line of address but they instantly provided me with sensitive information that only o2 would know such as when i changed my package, how much i normally pay for my broadband and my last o2 broadband bill which was larger than normal due to an o2 cockup.
