There still at it,what worries me most of all is the amount of information they already have, they knew my bank amongst other details. The warning is there when they ask for the security numbers on the back of your debit card, on no acount must you part with this. They appear to be believable because so many of our own UK companies now use foreign call centres, this is a lesson to the corporate greed that festers in the UK, unfortuneately we will all end up paying for these scams as though most people may be able to claim back the money they lose, ultimately we will all pay through higher chartges etc.

Had a call from 02256800256 - can't the police do something about people trying to rip us off.  She knew my name was Apple - Didn't know my last name - She knew my post code.  But I wouldn't give her my DOB.  I assume the questions would have got more intrusive until they can rob you.

I received a call from this number, which I suspect was an Indian call centre by the voice and language used offering to refund my PPI charges made by my bank which have been declared illegal in the UK. Utter crap, but the worrying thing was that she was able to confirm my name and address. She asked me to confirm my date of birth for security reasons which I refused to do on the grounds that it is sensitive data and it was unsolicited call and after 'but Mam it is only your date of birth' and my further refusal she hung up, so I was unable to question her as to where she had got my information from.

I keep on getting these 'silent' calls - but once in a while I do get an Asian voice trying to tell me I'm owed money. I tell them my hsband is part of the fraud squad (he isn't)  and they hang up immediately.

Same call received today. Indian man saying they could repay bank charges. I asked which bank and he mumbled something before asking if I wanted a cheque (to get my address?) or bank credit (to get bank details?). I asked again which bank? and he hung up.

Recieved a call from this number today the chap that called wanted to speak to my mother and I wouldn't confirm if she was at home and I asked which company he was calling from twice and as I couldn't understand him I asked him to spell the company name and he happily spelt F*** O** I told him he was very rude and He hung up. Where is this number based and does anybody know which company is behind this offensive waste of time? Thanks

There is a fairly new scam going round.  The say they are ringing on behalf of the Ministry of Justice or some such, and have a cheque for repayment of bank charges or PPI etc.  The say that if you want they will bring the cheque to your house and you should give the person who brings it a voucher for, say, £150, for taxes. If you agree, they take the voucher and cash it immediately. When you bank the cheque it bounces like a rubber ball. The dangers of giving them your bank details to "put the cheque in your account" are obvious.

I had one tonight, they'd been trying to get me to answer for a few days. I decided to pick up and have a bit of fun with them.
I got the guy so confused and angry with my disjointed and contradictory replies that he told me to f**k myself. Hahahaha.

Just had a call off this company, saying I was owed charges from my bank, when I asked him which bank he said Barclay's, (I don't bank with Barclay's but I didn't say anything and let him rattle on)  he then asked if I wanted them paying into my bank or by cheque, I went along with him and said cheque, he then asked for my DOB and I said to no and if they could post something to me in writing then I'd respond, he reckoned they don't send out letters as it would cost too much!!!  I hung up, but it worries me some that they will trick the vulnerable out there. Is there nothing anyone can do to stop them.

Do not give these people any of your details D.O.B bank details etc. They asked for my details saying that they had a cheque for me for £350 and that they needed my full name and bank account details or full name and D.O.B. also stating that the money was owing to me from my mortgage or loan insurance. Which incidentally was paid up in 1992 and I have never had a loan etc. They are speaking with a strong Asian accent and are hard to understand, but I imagine an older person could easily be intimidated to give out their details. The person concerned has rung me 6 or 7 times and given me the same treatment but hangs up when my partner answers so be aware!

I have just received a call from 02256800256. An Indian sounding woman who, as in the above messages, said I was owed money by my bank for illegal charges. She knew my postcode and the first numbers of my debit card and wanted me to confirm the rest of my card number. When I questioned  how she had got my card number in the first place she hung up on me.

    Geographic expansion

Section: Codes in Range 1000-2999 - Geographic Numbers

Warning: Numbers starting 02256 800 are probably not valid.

Oftel records show that numbers starting 02256 800 are protected from allocation. Where numbering capacity has been withdrawn from service, the block or code is sterilised for a period, typically 2 years. Alternatively the Oftel Numbering Unit might protect capacity for a limited period, to avoid dialling errors into similar codes

find it pretty strange that i can recieve calls from a number that is etha protected or not in use

I appear to be not alone with these idiots from 02256 800 256 causing problems. I have had a few PPI calls to date from them but the last one was the most offensive in that when I stated that I was in TPS and asked not to use my number he retorted " You're part of TPS well suck my b**ls then". I wouldn't mind our inept government, waste of space telephone companies etc not being able to do anything if I could get my hands on this guy.

Received  call  from someone with a very strong african accent saying he wanted to refund overpaid charges and did I want it paid by cheque or into my bank account. Told him I didn't have a clue what he was talking about and hung up only for him to call back. Told him I couldn't understand him and to put it in writing. He then hung up

Foreign lady rang me from a so called finance company, couldn't understand her very well. Said she wanted to refund me for a payment protection plan paid to the bank which was illegal and would I like a cheque or for it to be paid into my account. I asked her how do I know they are a bona fidei company and not just after my bank details. She said she would put it in writing to me and hung up!
