You did well.  These scammers work in two ways.  They say they will put a cheque into your bank accound and just need your bank details!  You can guess what happens next. The other way is they will say they will bring the cheque to your home and will hand it over in return for a Ukash or Western Union voucher for £x.  You give them the voucher and it is cashed immediately. When you bank the cheque it will bounces like a rubber ball. Some say you can post the voucher to them and they will not cash it until the cheque has cleared.  If you believe that you will believe anything. Sometimes they also claim to be working on behalf of the Department of Justice, also not true.

    fedup
We are registered with the telephone preference service. They called yesterday and the day before. Today I picked the phone up and an indian man said he wanted my address and bank account number so he could refund me a bank overcharge.

I slammed phone down so for the last two hours he has rang my number over and over again

So fedup with the amount of nasty scum on this planet

Received a call today from "Peter" who`s English was terrible. Told me I was due £1000 back in bank charges paid in last 6 years. When I tried to pin him down as to whom I`d paid these charges to he kept repeating his script. I`ve never paid bank charges ever in my life so knew immediately it was a scam, especially when he said he would pay it back to my account!   I am already with the TPS so how are these calls getting through?

Nothing since August 3?  Got a call yesterday - found it on my missed calls list.  Another disappointed computer.  My bank account is one of the old style ones that levies NO charges if you stay in credit.  I do.  Pity I missed him, I could have had some fun.

Took a call asking for Mr W (previous owner moved 15 years ago). I just said you have got the wrong number. He insisted I was Mr W. I insisted I wasn't so he asked who I was. I told him it was none of his business and asked him who he was. He said he was Kevin (strong asian acentt) and my daughters boyfriend. It was like panto he kept saying you are Mr W! Then the insults started. He said why are you scared? are you gay? Are you scared someone will f**k you up the a**e? I'm the one who f***ed your wife last night. I hung up.
He never got round to telling me what he wanted

This number keeps ringing and hanging up when I answer the phone. Obviously it's a scam (having checked online and seeing that others have had this number ring them)
Please can something be done to stop them ringing?

Quite simple really....Get "Caller ID" on your phone and when you don't recognise ANNOYING calls like this, don't answer....They'll soon get pissed off!

For those who believe that registering with TPS will protect them, read the TPS rules, they apply to UK registered companies, these scammers actually work for companies based abroad who use a redirection service in the UK for their calls, hence the 02256******* number and unfortunately the TPS can't touch them as this is a regulatory body for UK companies only who have no international clout at all.
Those who have been sworn at in any way or threatened at all should report the call to the police as ''threatening nuisance calls''. The police are able to take these matters international if they get enough complaints. And of course these are attempted fraud calls, so report them as such any way.

Just had a call from 02256800256 - asian lady - says she is from UK Finance dept - complete fraud told them to go away. The telecoms authorities should do more to stop these calls and prosecute those making them. Am registered with TPS - has no effect.

Just had an Indian/Pakistani man phone and ask for a Mr or Mrs Foster, told him wrong number and hung up before he had the chance to babble on. I thought the line was dead as when I answered there was no-one there. Apparently if this happens again I should quickly press the # key to confuse their system. Don't know if it works, but i'll give it a try.

I had a phone call from the same people. A couple of months ago I discovered my telephone could record phone calls. As soon as I said I was going to record the conversation the line went dead
