In leeds. Got a Chinese voice saying he had urgent message about my computer etc so I said oh yes, I know you, you're going to ask for my details and scam me. He kept saying "are you mad?" so I said I had the number and would ring the police and he hung up on me. 5 mins later another call but I didn't hear it to reply; no message. Pity, sometimes I can spend many happy minutes stringing people along, then just walk off leaving phone off hook

Yes, it's now come down to Wiltshire. I have been receiving a number of 'silent' calls from overseas company over last few weeks. Can't remember exactly when, but I believe that Sony lost a lot of data (a year  or two ago). It was in the news then. That data related to people who had bought Sony products. As I don't make a habit of giving my details to companies except those I've bought products from, I have a sneaky suspicion that my details have been sold to these nefarious criminals that place cold calls.

The TPS is useless in these situations. There surely must be some legislation that can trace these activities and prevent overseas calls (or in this case, supposedly a call from this country). Incidentally trying to dial back to this number resulted in a 'number not recognised'.

I wonder if this is related to the 092318 number I have barred. this one also cuts when the answer machine kicks in, Call Screening is a wonderfull item quickly followed by call barring

This number rang me today told me the usual "your pc has lots of problems". she told me to press the windows logo and r... i said i had ( but of course i had not. she asked me what i had. I laughed, she said well.... i said i have a someone on the phone who thinks i am stupid. i added i can assure you i am not. she loudly said shut up. i said get a life  and put the phone down .  So sick of these people ringing

They have phoned before. This number has been going since December 2010 and has generated 46 pages of commments about this  02538020308 number.  Is this a record? It is clearly a scam.

Please if you get a silent call report the number to Ofcom, if you make contact with whover is phoning inform TPS. With enough pressure the calls can be blocked.

To my knowledge the only time I have given my phone number out is when I contacted McAfee call centre in the Indian sub continent.  Coincidence?

I also had a call from Windows telling me I downloaded a virus yesterday -- told him I didnt have a computer but was happy to put him through to my boss who DID have a computer in the Police Station  HO and did he want to talk to him instead - Bloke ( with an " accent " ) just kept talking over me oblivious to what I said ( btw I obv dont work at a Police Station ) got bored in the end and just hung up)  I am in the Midlands

I have received 5-6 missed calls from this number but for now, no messages have been left! (So best avoid engaging in conversation then!)

A machine call, which eventually said 'goodbye'

Wigan. Received call at 10.08. On ansa-phone. Dialled 1471.  Curiously, I ma having problems with my laptop, but not tempted to seek adviec from this number!

Call from this number claimed to be from Windows technical support (scam). They did have the correct name of the previous owner of the phone number. They are obviously buying telephone lists and phoning people claiming to be 'technical support'. Unsuspecting victims, login to the machine to check the 'fault' and allow the person on the phone remote access to their PC. Malware is then placed on the machine which sends these crooks your passwords and other sensitive information that they use to rip you off. BEWARE - whatever they are selling or trying to help you with - you want no part of!

I have just received a call from this number too - some noise, then it hung up. I am in Inverness, with talk talk. My number has always been ex-directory, even beforehand with bt, so I would like to find out exactly where they are getting the numbers from. Im guessing if they are not ex-phone company members, they are just randomly dialling 11 digit uk numbers to try and scam people rather than stealing the numbers from anywhere in particular. Ever since joining talk talk I have started to receive alot of scam calls from foreign call centres-the call I had last week pretended they were from microsoft, willing to fix my pc over the phone, lol. These calls seem to be becoming quite common nowadays, although I dont know if customers from any other companies get them as much as talk talk-its almost the equivalent of junk email.. but now its dialling the house :( !

I have just received a call from this number - telling me that I have viruses in my computer.   I immediately told him that he was talking to the wrong person and rang off.   How do these companies gain access to our telephone numbers!!

It is more than one company making these calls.They may pretend to be from windows,microsoft,etc.Have a whistle ready.....deafen the cowboy.

Yet another call from these pests except this time no one spoke, so I just hung on the line until they disconnected, I sincerly hope its costing them money.

Just got a call from an Indian woman who was just plain stupid. I simply said "hang on a minute" and left the phone off the hook with the speaker phone on so I could hear her getting impatient saying "hello?". I had hoped that leaving the line open at my end would make it impossible for them to disconnect from their end, maybe this is just an old urban myth?

This number and nuisance call has reached the Southeast Kent, 3 calls in 1 hour not sure if they will get the message that I am not totally stupid.  I wonder if there is anything that I can press on the phone that will make a loud noise and annoy them the other end!!!

The computer dials hundreds of RANDOM uk numbers in order to scam uk households. If you have even received a call with a dial or beep.. and then a computer robot female voice saying 'goodbye', then by picking up the phone, YOU have likely just told their computer when the most likely time is that you will be home, and the next call could be a real member of staff trying to scam you!! These call centres are often abroad. other times the calls that hang up on purpose are due to the company not having enough staff, but its likely a machine dialling random uk numbers-they do not KNOW your number, they just dial thousands at once until someone picks up the phone and gets scammed... its easy £££££££ for them

If you have a phone that tells you the number before you pick it up, and if it is hidden or you dont know the number, DO NOT pick up that phone! nowadays these calls are everywhere!!

An Asian man called me on this number and advised me that my telephone line is with BT. I went along with this and he advised me I was due to a refund due to the amount of call I was making and then asked if I was a high user or low user when I said that he should know he hung up. Obviously this is a scam. Tried to call number but dead air
