Had a call from this company today. Offering to claim back money on mis-sold ppi charges.  Only gave details on the loan and they didn't ask for any sensitive information. They did try to subtly lead my answers to various questions so that it fitted their criteria but called me back a few minutes later to say that they were very sorry but unable to assist with a claim as I hadn't taken out a large enough loan,  even though I must have told them the amount of loan about 5 times during the first conversation. They then asked if I was sure I wasn't mistaken & that the loan wasn't for a larger amount !! Apparently as the company I have the loan with is a little awkward to deal with they will only help you if the loan is over 10,000 and still ongoing or over 3,000 if you have already paid off the loan  All seemed as legitimate as any of these companies can be, and actually very pleasant to deal with.  so if you are looking to claim then this seems a good a company as any.

I'd have to strongly disagree. They are NOT a good company to deal with - I don't care if they brought me a million dollars on a velvet cushion. Any company that cold calls against the TPS, auto dials dead calls, all on bull**** premise (I've had missold PPI - never had it in my life; missold endowment mortgage - never had it in my life - worked in heavy industry, which was news to me) do NOT deserve business. There are legitimate ways to market services, primarily through advertising, and cold calling (particularly with dead-line autodiallers) against expressed TPS preference is illegal and, most of all, unacceptable. Giving them business only encourages these dubious practices.

I'm sorry for the person on the end of the phone who gets the brunt of my fury (although I do try to be reasonable) but I've two young children (<5), a wife recovering from cancer and been in hospital myself. I can't count the number of times they've disrupted convalesence sleep, the children's tea or bath time.

Please, please, instead of considering giving them business report them to TPS and OFCOM (the latter for dead autodialler calls). It is only if they get a sufficient body of complaints that they will take action.

Just filed an official complaint with ofcom, and I urge everyone else to do the same.
Getting calls all the time, as late as 9pm, and no one ever at the other end of the line, it's quite obvious that this company, whoever they are, are using automated diallers and causing us all no ends of grief. As previously stated by others, if you don't complain nothing will ever get done.. It's dead easy to file a complaint, here is the link to the Ofcome silent calls monitoring form:
    Thanks guys and girls:

I have been having this number phone me for weeks. When i answered got horrific noise down phone, other times they hang up. left it to AP and they hang up. Today didnt have my glasses on and picked up phone, Irish accent young man "Can I speak to Alison", me "noone here that name" Him - "repeated my phone number, is that Mrs McKenzie" me "No - you have got something wrong son" Him " Mrs McKenzie, Allison, Castle Street Nottingham NG46" Me "No. dont know were that is - you got wrong details"
When i put my glasses on and realised it was that number was really annoyed with myself, tried to phone it back but got weird noises AGAIN. Hope this is the end of it.

Thanks for the free phone number for EMC 0800 027 2484. Phoned them and let rip.  Of course not their fault the calls calling from Belfast (have spoken to irish lad today). Anyway they say wrong identity (me that is) so would make sure my number was deleted from the Belfast list - WAIT AND SEE.

Male caller rang at 14.59pm this afternoon asking for Mr ****** ****** (the homeowner.)

I said he was at work and gave the caller the time the person in question could be reached this evening.

Caller asked if I was Mrs ******. The homeowner is divorced therefore there is not a Mrs here.

I am not his daughter-in-law but I said I was to avoid further questions.

Caller said he was Colin from M-Gas. (Or it could have been EmCass?)

The number given by 1471 was: 02890324055

I hope very much that Colin makes a note of my info and does indeed call back tonight, rather than keep annoyng me in the daytime! We shall see and I shall continue posting here!

Cold called by EMCAS last October, considered using them to claim back PPI, following a lengthy call where I stated that I was not really interested I agreed to them sending out the paperwork to get them off the phone.

I at no time returned any paperwork to the company, asking them to act on my behalf. I have been being called every 3-4 days by their employee, since October trying to get me to return paperwork to them.

Eventually last week we decided we had had enough of the calls at all different times including the weekend when the company is apparently shut, and telephoned the company to explain that we were not to go ahead.

I was informed that our name and number would be deleted from their systems, but since then I have recieved 3-4 calls a night, all of them silent as they go to voicemail, on Wednesday the employee left a message asking me to call her as a matter of urgency.

I do not answer the phone now and my 4 year old now even tells her brothers and dad and grandparents when they are in not to answer the phone. I am tired of this,  I phoned them again this morning and they assured me that my name and number would be removed but so far today I had another message on my machine asking me to call the employee and tonight I have recieved 5 silent calls,

Received several calls form this number over the past 2 days and they are so annoying.  What is also worrying is when you call the number back, the ring tone sounds as if it is abroad?

Hi Essay. I know what you mean about the ring tone being different. I think they may be in Belfast judging by the accents.

Barney from Emcas rang this afternoon (27/01/11, 14.49pm).

He asked for the homeowner by name.

Barney said it wasn't a sales call but a very important call about the homeowners mortgage endowment.

I'm getting sick of these calls but as I don't know for certain whether it's genuine or not (the homeowner could actually be dealing with this company for all I know), I can't really tell them to stop ringing and remove the number from the database!

All I can do is tell them the time of day they can reach the homeowner.

Trouble is, from experience I know that they take no notice of what I say and just keep disturbing me in the daytime!

    Me again!

Barney from Emcass did not ring back last night as promised.

And what a surprise, another call from them this afternoon (14.20pm).

    Today it was David.

I told David that Barney had failed to call as promised.

David said they would phone back tonight at the time I gave him.

    We shall see!

I'm pleased to report David kept his word!

Emcas rang tonight after 6.30pm and reached the person they've been wanting to speak to.

It turns out the homeowner has used the company in the past.

However, he has no further need for their services!

I hope that's an end to it now!

    Hi folks

glad that i am not the only one to get bugged by calls and not just from this number but frm several, this website is a god send as I can now check numbers etc.

I normally let the phone ring and ring etc and dont answer, I unplug the phone at night so am not bothered, I ony really use the phone for dialling out and most of my real freinds and contatcs use my mobile for contacking me.

Advce, let the phone ring then do a 1471 and 9 times out of 10 the number will be on here, check it out and make your own mind up.

    have fun

My partner recieved cold call from someone calling himself Richard Hobson which may or may not be his real name on 02890342055 (oh yes she asked for his name) when challenged to explain how he got our number he mumbled somthing about a survey we had filled out. not something either of us recall doing. when we asked for company details and phone number we where given the above number and he claimed to be from E.M.C.A.S and the company name was" edowments misselling complaints advisory service" and directed us to https://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/search.aspx he gave his company auth: number as CRM1870 which brings up three business none of which match the name he gave.  Not sure what the game is but they will be getting short shift from me when they ring back tomorrow
