- Bob BobinnsJust (10th March 2010) got a call from Asian man saying he was from 'Sky Delivery' .....I think, although he was very hard to understand. He asked me if my Sky box was working OK (typically it's not at the moment), I asked him to repeat himself a few times because I could not fully make out the company name he was giving me but then became very suspicious by the tutting and sighing and hung up, he was still gassing on about his next question when I put the phone down.
- Caller: Sky Delivery (I think)

- PaulHad a call from an supposed IT company claiming that something had installed unwanted files on my computer and that they were providing a service as they claimed it was there duty to inform me. Talked me through opening event viewer on my machine and counting warning and error signs. Then sounded astounded and claimed that the date and time when they occurred would be when the files were installed. I suppose they would have carried on trying to sell me something or get me to connect so they could get passwords etc.. When I informed them that I am a computer programmer they cut the telephone call short and hung straight up.. funny that!!
- Caller: DIdn't say
- Paul Richardson replies to KerrieCHANGE ALL OF YOUR ONLINE PASSWORDS!! If you do any form of online banking or shopping, check your bank statments and change all of your passwords straight away. You may also want to get someone to check you pc for any illegit software i.e. virusus ETC. I'm sorry if this worries you but I'd rather you took too much action than had an empty bank account!
You can easly copy files from/to someone's hard drive using such software including internet browsing details like saved passwords and so on or install nasty software. I do similar legitimate things for our customers on a daily basis to perform legal and wanted IT support but I am aware how easy it would be to do naughty things especially these guys. - Andy in ShefCalled today (16th March 2010). Hung up when I answered.

- Matthew replies to KerrieHad a call from "The Nerd Support" this morning. Apparently they're "affiliated with Microsoft" - anyone able to confirm this?
He accessed my PC in exactly the same way, showed me some ways my computer was at very serious risk but told me not to worry.
A few pointers I wish to put online for people who are searching about these guys.
1) He'll delete a load of "harmful files". If it's anything like mine, the files he deleted were harmless .TMP files! It won't harm your PC, but he's not actually doing anything helpful either.
2) He'll show you these other "files" that you can't delete, and show you can't highlight them and press the delete button. These are NOT FILES. They're your log of any warnings and error messages you've had. Again, there's nothing WRONG in deleting them, but they're totally harmless! - tommyscotiaSecond call in as many weeks! This time I answered, said Hello, and got no reply, but could hear a call centre / office in the background.

- Thucked Off replies to paulJust had parent's on phone. "Nerd Support" offered them an upgrade to Windows 7 and 24/7 support for £185. Luckily, my folks know I work in Information Security, so they called me to check it out, but were part way through giving their credit card number. He showed them some screens showing Errors, and told them he'd get them Windows 7 upgrade. He was remote controlling their PC with www.teamviewer.com. The hardware is not capable of running Windows 7, so I told them it was likely a scam, and asked them to pull the plug on their PC, and not to use it againg.
I asked the guy at the other end of the phone to call me, and surprise, surprise he hasn't.
