Just got a call from this number, I answered with "Hello" and after about 5 seconds the number hung up.
I am not going to bother calling it back incase they charge me $1,000:00 per minute or some such.

i called this number back after two missed calls, and it was AGL energy.  A bulk call center maybe?

I got a call from this no the other claiming to b agl, they went on saying I owed them $1000 on a bill. I was dumb founded and asked them to call me back as I wanted to go home and check my bills- none of which I owed tht much money too- so be warned ! Also I never got a call back !

A few weeks ago I received a number of calls from this number. the caller did not speak when I answered and so I hung up. I noted with interest a number of posts on this site.

Today, Saturday 23 July 2011, at approximately 1pm, I again received a call from this number. This time someone spoke!!! The person was from Transfield Services who are currently conducting FREE safety inspections of roofing insulation carried out as part of the Home Insulation Program.

The safety inspections are part of a program initiated by the Australian Government (Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency). So if you get a call form this number, it is well worth trying to make contact with Transfield Services because the free inspection will give you some peace of mind. I've had it done and it was a good process. Lastly, Transfield Services can be contacted on 1800 112 989.

I dont know i got call twice its blank i can hear clicking sound i reply & reply again hello nothing then it hangs up who the hell calling me

Got a call today (Saturday) at 4pm from this number. I tried to do a "reverse search" and found this site, luckily. When I called them back it rang a few times, then "call rejected" appeared on my phone.

Have all people who've received calls from 8416 1400 had free insulation installed? We have, but I read one post above suggesting it's a debt collecting agency, and I also have a debt.

It would help identify the number's user if people stated whether or not they received free insulation. I haven't read every contribution, so sorry if I'm re-stating previous suggestions.

go figure.. I google and it came up with this. Seeing all the different major players business names makes me thinks it's a sweeping con.

i keep getting calls from 0384161400, thinking it's from Victoria & i'm not with AGL & never have been, or bigpond or any other that has been mentioned, so don't know why they'd be calling me in the first place, but after reading comments, won't even bother

I got a call from this number yesterday, they said they were from Energy Australia and that I had to pay my energy bill, She asked me to confirm my address and details and i did!!! How stupid.... Then she asked if I wanted to pay my "late bill" via credit card with her, I found a bit suspect and said no thanks... The caller had a really strong american accent. I fell like an idiot!!!

it is a centralised call centre that call customers that have overdue accounts. For example energy bills, phone bills, home loans etc..
It is not just for the one company. They call on behalf of many companies.
They will also have some of your details and ask for you to confirm this information so they can speak with you about it.
They only have the information that the company you owe money to has provided them and once you confirm this with them they will advise that you owe monies for something.

Ensure that you are making payment to the company diretly that you owe monies, not with the operator.

Was told it's directory assist.. sounds like a call centre doing various clients.  

I am starting to use the speil that  " Due to the high scam risk, I refuse to confirm details over the phone.  Please leave your details and I will call you back".

Keeps calling me but when i call it back it hangs up.... Must be a scam?

Got a call from the said number today. A asian  speaking woman asked for me by name. She claimed she was from the A.T.O. followed by a long pause she hung up. I redialed the number many times and always disconnects after about 12 seconds

I answered a call from 03 8416 1400 saying they were AGL wanting my address and full name, I said no they said could I have your DOB I said no, then ring AGL, I said and quote what she made up some number I asked her to repeat she gave me a different one. I rang AGL they have no record and no reason to call.

SCAM SCAM they are anyone from ATO, AGL, Telstra, Energy Australia, debt collecting agency.

NEVER NEVER give out personnel info over the phone or email, I work in ICT Gov Security these people are like a disease, there everywhere and will not go away.

If you are not sure find the companies number, don’t ring the number the caller gives you, ring the company back yourself, may take a few minutes longer but you will ensure your personal information and identity are secure.

If a company is genuine it will not ring you and request that type of information.
