these phone ringers are nigerian scammers thinking we in Australia dont know who they are.!! well i told them that i was going to track them down and get them if they insist ringing my number again.

called them back...rang about 5 times and then went engaged....

Hello everyone. I CAN CONFIRM that calls from 03 8416 1400 is from the energy retailer 'AGL' - credit collection department. (In Victoria at least)

Returned calls to this number will always be 'hung up' on or engaged when you ring them back because you are calling their computer and you cannot talk in computer/data tones like a fax machine or old style dial up modem! (This is actually a system error..... but this is who is calling you!)

........ This is the the computer that the 'AGL' credit collection agents use, and they cannot control or answer calls FROM you on this number.

If you owe AGL money.... I advise that you tell them "suck [***] you rip off merchants"..... and PROMPTLY change energy suppliers!!!!!!!!

I know because I waited..... and waited..... and I was eventually connected to them...... AGL ....... collections department!!!!

Yes I also received 2 silence calls and 2 prank hangup calls from 84161400, I also have an AGL account, this could be them as someone previously listed on a post.

I've been getting these calls for about a week... I'm going to save them in my phone as 'MASSIVE WAN*ERS' in your honour lol. That made me night! Thanks ;)

you guys are all stupid sceptics, maybe you should pay your bills and then you can avoid these calls all together

this not dodgy. At all. they are calling because you have not paid a bill. They are contacting you because  the company who provided you with the service to which you have not paid has been sending overdue letters and you have ignored them. So your number is given to this collections agency overseas and they will try make a payment arrangement with you which is pretty fair considering they could just cut you off whenever they want. Answer the call, pay your bill and they will not call you again. Lesson here is never to ignore your bills. Always let your provider know if you are unable to make a payment and you will find that they will be suprisingly lenient with you and do all they can to help you rectify the matter so it doesnt go to collection.

The number is AGL they called me as a courtesy call about a credit I had and then they had no idea what they were doing and put me on hold. They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery

The number is not Bigpond Internet. It is a scam call centre located in Melbourne

I just received a call from this number and a male with a foreign accent claiming to be AGL asked me to clarify my address, after I refused to clarify (as they called me, why the hell should I prove who I am), I asked him what the matter was regarding (in which he refused to reveal of course) and he then had the nerve to ask me to clarify my D.O.B!!! No shame! I told him to send me a letter with the matter he was calling about to the address he had on file and hung up. I don’t trust anyone ringing me on random or private numbers.

Came into work this morning, had a missed call at 6:08pm last night on my work number, which is an extension and not advertised externally.  Number was 8416 1400.  I'd rather they ring my work though than home or mobile and gee whiz, what a shame I missed their call...

I called back and it rang for a while and just hung up on me

I'm with AGL and I haven't missed a payment.. so it can't be the Debt Collection department. After a couple of calls and replies of, " thank you but leave me alone and remove my number from your system"... I  JUST WHISTLE DIXIE LOUDLY, IF IT'S A SCAMMER THEY WON'T RING AGAIN!

I just received a call from this number and they claimed to be ACTEW AGL

They are chasing up payments for AGL, got the same call, ie a debt collector
